Christopher Bassi is an artist of Meriam, Yupungathi, and British heritage. In this video, he explains how he came up with Monuments of the South West Waters of a Great Ocean. His work explores representational painting as a powerful medium for addressing cultural identity, alternative genealogies, and colonial legacies in Australia and the South Pacific. Through critical re-imagining, Bassi creates a space for speculative storytelling that delves into history, place, and the intertwining of personal and collective identities.
