@ HB Albers. Is it still their (early 2019) or has it been replaced by the proverbial 'dump truck', - it all looked in nice condition, even though we couldn't see it 'close up'. Nice video, just a shame it wasn't longer.
Thank you for watching! I haven't been at that site for a long time, but I saw an ad for this machine (I can't be sure that it was the same machine, but I'm very confident, that there are no 2 RH8 face shovels with the same color scheme in my area...) from a local construction machinery dealer at the end of 2016. So it is very likely that another excavator replaced this beauty in the meantime.
@@HBAlbers It a pleasure always watching the more unusual in any quarry working - alas in the UK i think they have virtually all gone, there is 1 still running in Ireland - (the Board Na Mona - Irish Peat Board). If that little beauty has gone then possibly the railway has as well alas. Sand is no respecter of machinery and tends to wear it down a lot quicker than some other minerals do. Lets hope the train is still running but possibly the 'dealer' bought all of it as a 'job lot'. Do you know if the 'pit' is still being used, or with all these new building materials on the market, (and regulations), is the firm even still in existence. I am of course disregarding all the 'preservation' lines that seem to keep 'springing up'.
In the spring I will try to find out, what the actual situation in that sandpit is. I'm pretty sure, the small railway is still working and only the excavator has been replaced. I'll keep you all in the loop. Maybe I'll get a video out of it.
@@HBAlbers Thank-you for another reply. Your suggestion is very welcome, I hope the little railway is still working, it would be nice to know there are some small 'gems' still working, and a video would be an added bonus.
1) The train cannot simply be replaced because the "road" into the sand pit is unsuitable for trucks - the ground is too soft in places. In addition, the operation of a train is much cheaper and more environmentally friendly than that of a truck. 2) I hardly believe that the operation of that light rail will be discontinued so quickly. The locomotive and the wagons are practically new - they are from 2009. And also the high bucket excavator is a quite new LIEBHERR 924. 3) It should also be mentioned that the sand used is not used as conventional construction sand for mortar and concrete - the company produces sand-lime bricks, and not every sand hoof produced can be used for this. Two videos of the modern sand track: ruclips.net/video/w2BiWnXVk_8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/L0Ck7dCjYgw/видео.html A VIdeo from the old sand track: ruclips.net/video/atH0Yi0F-JY/видео.html
Let's hope so. The lime-sand brick producing factory at the end of the narrow gauge railway depends on this sand. But they are in business since 1936 and there is still much sand remaining. Thanks for watching!
This system seems to be efficient enough, it is working for years now. I guess a bucket wheel excavator would be a much higher investment. And in case of a defect on the O&K you could rent a normal excavator around the corner, with a bucket wheel excavator you would have to wait for the repair.
@@HBAlbers It's true what you say, but when I saw the mountain of sand and the train filling, I thought it was a lot. I m french my english is not perfect. Thank s
Your english is fine! I also do understand french, but I prefer to answer in english. Regarding the amount of sand: the goal is not no scoop away the entire plateau, but to have enough sand for the lime-sand brick production in the factory nearby. I hope this sand pit will last a long time.
Yes, there is. A few kilometers to the north. I have another video on my chanel with the title "Schmalspurzug mit Schöma CHL 150G / Narrow gauge train in Germany", where you can see the train heading for the factory (and me, trying to keep up on a bicycle...).
My first time seeing a face shovel loading sand
Is this the type of sand used for making glass???
In this case it is used for making sand-lime bricks, the factory is just two kilometers away from the sand pit. Glass is made from fine quartz sand.
Functional machines are beautiful. Enjoyed it. Thank you from Japan.
Thank you so much for watching and your nice comment!
Nice material to load!
That sandpit is the only (very small) hill in an otherwise completely flat landscape... Thanks for watching!

Wow - My first time seeing a Front Shovel that small. Pretty cool.
Thank you for watching!
Tolle Maschine.
did they build that rail road specially for that ? 🤔 silly 😨
Why do you consider that silly? It probably is way cheaper than using trucks...

Wo im Emsland
Surwold. Sandabbau für Hartsteinwerk
Grease that ol beast. Don't see em that size in shovel configuration much
You're right, they are quite rare in this small size. Thanks for watching!
Good video HB Albers
Thank you very much, John!
Will take a while to scoop away that entire plateau

ils devraient avoir un excavateur rotatif avec un tapis, c est trop long ce systeme.
