      Dumbest shit ever - not by him (which is kind of a normal everyday ideal), but by you or anyone to quote this on the internet, in which fanatic obsession with the other on a personal level is the mainstream (and all the abysmal pitfalls as well). By presenting a quote like this you are engaging in a game of it and doing active harm (just by manipulation), so it's no surprise that this comes back to you in such a way..

    I concluded a long time ago that Derren Brown is a genius. Not to stroke his ego. Not the point. But he's one of the smartest and most articulate people (in terms of making the complicated simple), I've ever seen. This interview just proves that in a more intimate and genuine way. The amount you can learn from him is pretty incredible.

    The TV programmes and the mindset of the people that orchestrated them, don't make me want to trust people. Quite the opposite. Even if just filmed as make-believe (probably even more so).
    I've followed the work Derren V. Brown puts his name to since it begun showing and I see something so contradictory about that work, his persona and what is hinted as being his true nature on social media.
    I have a theory that by nature he cares a LOT about reputation. Status and money. Enough to squeeze extraordinary skills and, possibly, his moral standards into the public arena for money-generating-drama. Other people may have chosen not to use those skills in the same way?
    What he says about how to live with what we can't control and happiness is insighful and very helpful. I recon that piece of advice stems from some personal journey he may have gone through to understand and manage a natural need to control, manipulate and shape to his will and/or the challenges that fame-dom may have presented him with.
    I've always found him such an interesting and insighful person. Even if I am sure I only fully understand a small portion of what he shares, he is a very engaging and different entity to witness.
    How big a mark he leaves in the History of entertainment (authored as it is) is one to watch. I am at that stage in life when we wonder which History does truly matter... He will figure in many minds and many mainstream and prestigious archives, kudos to him for making a mark on that one.

    I love the way Lewis interviews people. Maybe it is just me, but I had trouble following Darren the way he communicates. He seems authentic and smart, but things seemed all over the place with his answers. Maybe I was expecting something different based on the title...

    I think whats really interesting is how both of these intelligent people came to their own realisations on how to live their own lives at around the same age - 30. I think we need to do a better job of teaching the young what we find to be true at this age, instead of having to wait 30 years to come to these realisations ourselves.

    • @violetviolet888
      @violetviolet888 4 года назад

      Adults have been trying to teach their young for millennia . You can't rush or force life experience unless you intentionally remove yourself from existing mainstream systems. For instance, Montessori, Waldorf schools tend to expose children to a much more broad spectrum of experiences, therefore you learn more, sooner in life.

      I totally agree, I love Derren, he's never chased huge fame. The only problem is new American fans are now commenting on his shows and just saying fake over and over without listening to him in this interview or understanding what's going on. They don't want to accept suggestiblity or the power of authority or how stage hypnosis works. Easier to just shout fake ignorantly. If he was a fake he'd have chased worldwide fame years ago and he didn't. He a sceptic himself and says so and not all his shows works, even in Sacrifice, the jump scene fails, if he was fake, he wouldn't show that. He shows all the failures.

    Lewis, were you ever worried that all of the sudden he would be in your head and having you do or talk about stuff you would not normally? I think it is so engrained in Derren now that he does it with little to no effort! Kept thinking he might stand up, in his theatrical way, and say now you can all wake up to go do great things! Would have been fitting for your show....but maybe he did in a way without standing up......

    Ah yes,I have often thought that a rationalists understanding of the Christian god or Jesus was pretty much the projected image of the perfect version of one's self idealised up to the limits of one's imagination, and in fact this inner self is exactly the same thing as the biblical god anyway.Not to be blasphemous but even an atheist may have a self defined goal which must take the place of a deity in the mind; perhaps this is what an atheist's take on spiritual responsibility! Or maybe to mass market a system of ideals some seem to need belief more than faith. Love your work Derringer.

      20 years, not 30. But still, I'm surprised it's taken him so long to make it in America. It's probably for a number of reasons, mainly he's a home bird and kinda shy, even though he doesn't come across that way on tv. He's never really chased 'huge fame' as such.

    What’s very telling in my mind at least, is that despite the ‘love thy neighbour’ statements they both make; is that Derren feels the need to even bring up the political leanings of the guy. The insinuation being that there is a link between being racist and right wing. He then immediately points out that the guy doesn’t like illegal immigrants…which isn’t actually racism, that’s called not being fond of criminals. Surely the more appropriate point would be if the guy doesn’t like people of a certain race? After all race isn’t specific to nationality. Then Lewis goes on to talk about people building walls and referring to immigration and then really playing on the whole microchip thing. Derren is brilliant and honestly I’ve never heard of Lewis before but having heard this interview it seems to me that this talk about coming together and being nice isn’t sincere. It’s not the same thing when in reality what you’re doing is saying - here’s a person who seems racist - then twisting that to being about politics and moving on to point out that; oh everyone needs to be nicer, and by everyone I mean people who disagree with me and I’m so virtuous that I’ll make them better people by making them agree with me. I’m British by the way so don’t care about either political side in the US but it’s annoying when such a transparent jab at another group is made with the pretence of being civil. Not particularly classy

    MEANING BRINGS YOU HAPPINESS.. THEY'RE THE SAME ALMOST.. MEANING LOOKS MORE IMPORTANT , BECAUSE IT HAD INTENTION BEHIND.. THAT CREATES A QUESTION.. WHAT YOU MEAN ?.. AND IT WILL REQUIRE ACTION.. TO MEAN IS IMPORTANT ALSO KNOW HOW TO REPORT MEANING!.. MEANING SEEMS MORE IMPORTANT BUT IT REQUIRES UNDERSTANDING. BEING ABLE TO MEAN THINGS, AND TO KNOW YOU MEAN SOMETHING WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY. SO WE LOOK FOR BOTH. BECAUSE... WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO DO ? WE JUST WANT THE BEST FEEELINGS.. TO BE HAPPY IS FINDING MEANINGFULNESS IN WHAT YOU MEAN OR NOT. TO OTHERS OR YOURSELF(MAZES OF THE MIND) HOW TO MEAN.. AND PROJECT THAT WAY OF MEANINGFUL THINKING AND COMMUNICATION TO OTHER PEOPLE. IT WILL ALL BE COLL. ALMIGHTY..
