I agree with you but….. How many people now days actually go over there? Unfortunately people want thrills and rides, and shopping and all far more than they want this now. I grew up going to Tom Sawyer’s Island at Disneyland, and we go to Disneyland every week. When are kids was young it was fun to go over there now and then, but rarely go now. However, we do like going on the Mark Twain!

It's so sad to me that all these small tributes to our past are slowly disappearing, as these nods were always an important element of Walt's original visions for the parks. I'm pretty bummed about the red car trolley going away at DCA too. Even if most don't find the time to ride them, all of these old-fashioned trains, trolleys, monorails, riverboats, buggies and horse-drawn carriages running along in the background while you go about your day exist to add to the unspoken synergy, sound and flow of Disney's lands.
I once spent six hours on the island. Just hanging out watching the riverboat, exploring the caves for some pretty hilarious laughs, and my personal favorite…. Being silly on the barrel bridge as the riverboat goes by. The Island may not be a thrill attraction, but it gives the guests a place to explore and interact with each other. Even with something as simple as waving to the riverboat. Sometimes the small stuff is more fun than virtual queues. I know I’m in the minority, but visiting the island is a must do for me since my first visit in the 80s.
It really is like a playground for kids. If kids are old enough to be somewhat responsible parents could hang out by the rafts and let their kids wonder a bit. Big D often misses things like this and just goes for more 2 hour queue lines instead.
Huge huge HUGE mistake if they go through with this idiocy. 😒😢 That part of the park is necessary. And CARS IP does NOT belong in Frontierland, for heaven's sake. It's insane. At this point, I wish they could remove Walt's name from the company. It's not what he wanted, anymore.
Tom Sawyer has been my favorite part of the park for decades purely because of all the old style Disney designs. And it’s a great place to leave the park energy and recharge. So I’m personally sad it along with the Belle are leaving, but I get that change happens. Just leave the Belle somewhere where we can see her. She has actual history as a true steam paddle wheeler. One of only a handful left.

thanks Adam for thorough tour as I haven't been on Tom Sawyer island in 33 years and it brought back memories of when my son was 10 . Great place for kid's to explore
My opinion is what Disney is doing it taking that out is partially ruining that beautiful site and going to put in an uglier site. That really should go in expand beyond what they have now. They really should keep that beautiful sight and I loved whenever I get there to go down there and see that part and make me relax. Thank you for the tour of Tom Sawyer Island. My Mom(RIP) told me how claustrophobic she got in that cave years ago, so we never went there when I was a kid. lol Neat to see it before it's gone.
I did Tom Sawyer Island once. It was fun, but it’s one of those things you check out on one of your visits. Though if I can get there on my next visit I’ll totally be going back to the island. The Liberty Belle however is something I have always rode on. Yeah, it’s mostly swamp land, but sometimes when you’re in the park, you gotta find a place to just escape the park without actually leaving it.
My daughter and I found an old paint brush in the Fort on the island. The paint bush note said “return this to a cast member and receive a fast pass ticket”. Or something very close to this. I love Tom Sawyer island
Have visit Orlando from the UK with our sons and over the years we have visited the island twice and we do thoroughly enjoy it for a change. But as you say you need time to get over there & explore so often there are other rides that we want to go on more! Visiting in 3 weeks again so will definitely try to fit a visit to the island in.
Losing Tom Sawyers Island & Rivers of America would be a very drastic change that would altar a huge part of the MK's identity. Losing the aesthetics of the River and the sounds of the Riverboat, like you mentioned, is part of what makes MK a distinct and unique experience. I really think Disney execs have truly lost their way and have certainly lost the way of Walt Disney. 😢
Have gone to Disney since I was a kid ..... now 52. About every other trip we would go over there. My kids loved exploring the fort and caves every time. Nice place to slow down from the hustle of the park. Will be greatly missed. 🥲🥲🥲
When Disney announced it, I thought they could just turn the island into a villans island and make a ride on it. Keep the river and make a boat to take you across. Maybe to save a Disney Princess from a villain. Sounds more fun than cars to me.
They’re going to empty that lake at Tom Sawyer Island??!! What the heck? That’s one of the first attractions! Walt wouldn’t agree with that, I don’t think. And they’re getting rid of anything that hints of American Liberty! Right.
Great episode, Adam. It's great to see you recovered from the half marathon. Disney is always on move to keep up with Universal. Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts and how you feel about the move. Keep up the great work.👍👏👏
I’m all for new experiences but not at the expense of existing ones. At this point I don’t think any attraction is untouchable. I keep asking myself, could my favorite be next?
I am crushed Tom Sawyer’s Island is going away…the caves, the fort, the trails. We always love going over to the island for a break. Sort of disappointed Adam…you forgot the caves were out there?!?!
I will always remember the first time I went to WDW in 1991. My family and I were in MK and asked a CM for directions and he opted to walk us across the park to where we had asked about. During the walk he told us that they weren’t supposed to tell anyone but Michael Jackson was in the park. Shortly after that we noticed the river boat was almost empty except for a few people stationed on each side and saw Michael and a little kid on the top deck.
This is a huge nostalgia thing for our family. We went there with our kids since they started going and love it so much. Sad to see it go but looking forward to new things.
I wonder if it’s also a product of not having the ticket system anymore too. You used to have to pay extra for rides whereas this, I believe, was included in your park entrance. There’s definitely a focus on having to do all the rides first and having the ‘perfect’ day including them. I love the riverboat, I’ll miss it
Adam, you’re right. We tend to skip over the island on a rush to the mountains. We’re going to be there in January, I hope it’s still there for one last exploratioin. You’re an awesome narrator/ travel guide. Thank you for taking us along on your adventures.
Thank you for taking us along to see the last days of TSI. I, too, will miss the Riverboat whistle. So sad. Too bad they could not find room in Hollywood Studios for carsland.
Adam, a totally awesome and cool video and really enjoyed it! I hope you go on the island again because, that's really cool! Looking forward to your next vlog. YOU ROCK DISNEY!!!!!!
I have been to Disney once many years ago when I was a young adult in the 80s. I remember the riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island and the rafts and everything from this vlog today. I am 57 now and would go back to see just that and thunder mountain and all the other originals!
I hadnt been to Tom Sawyer's island in 24 years. I went last weekend and I cant believe how busy it was. The news had definitely gotten around that its going away.
Glad you got the chance to make a visit to the island and ride the riverboat again. We did both not too long ago and the fort was closed at the time. It will definitely be a drastic change with the new stuff coming.
Great footage thanks for filming! We have the same views on the expansion. They have so much land just build a new park to compete with Epic. Live in Sanford for the last 25 years grew up in Buffalo for 26.
Thank you for the tour of Tom Sawyer’s Island Adam Being physically disabled I don’t remember going further than the raft landing and aunt Polly’s refreshments area. I agree with you I will miss the sound of this section of the magic kingdom the liberty bell has been must do during all my trips to Disney I’m SO SAD to realize that it probably will be gone by the next time I visit 😢
Dang that sucks seems like every year something changes just keep on vlogging them they will always be available to look back on throughout time Thank You
Tom Sawyer island is a place that children and adults can go and use their imagination to create their own adventures. It is a shame Disney wants to “erase it from existence.” 😢
Grew up next to D-Land...I still miss the boat whistle...and had instant recall of sound of the raft to Tom Sawyers Island. 🥰 My heart is sad it's all going away.😢 Disneyland= Many many Happy Happy memories.
I'm glad you took the time to visit the Island it has definitely been the greater of the two parks offerings. I'm sorry to see it go, I wish they could have somehow build around it. You're right Adam It has gone fairly quiet over the years factoring in the effort it takes to get to it. World of Micah shot some really cool footage last month, despite being blind in the tunnels LOL I'm sorry for fans of the Riverboat too. Unless it could stay docked, but they say it will cost too much to maintain it once it's no longer an attraction. 😢 The new lands will be cool but you're right about they will need that space for access the lands and not walk all the way around the area. Leave the island and build a walkway to it, I wish...
Great to finally see you back home and catching up on the D23 WDW updates. I was watching PC Dev the other day as he was doing an update on Hwy 192 . It has fallen from grace. Give Orange World some love.
Your film made us more away how cool this island is. I agree with your thoughts. When I go I am at a time crunch and I have only gone a couple of times because of the time it takes. I bet you're right that it would be visited more if there was a faster way to visit. I would enjoy visiting with me grandkids.
Last time I was on Tom island was June 1st 2022. 5 Days after the ride at Hollywood studios opened up. I drove From Houston to Orlando straight shot to be at the 1st day it opened and was lucky to get a boarding pass. What’s the name of that ride …….. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind: man became my all time favorite ride too. Before that day I was at Disney World the week of the closer for Covid. The last night I was there when at MK the announced over the loud speaker that was the last day they would be open but the resorts would still be letting us stay there. Rip fast pass the best thing before Genie plus. I remember I could book 3 rides months before my trip.
Hey Adam too bad you hardly ever see my comments but thanks for the videos as always. Most of my family live in Orlando so we would go to WDW quite often plus my uncle use to be a bus driver there so we did get to enter more easily although he has been retired for quite awhile now so it will be quite difficult to return but we'll see. Not just Disney but theme parks in general are getting really expensive. Anyways thanks for keeping me updated on the attractions for now.
My wife and I disagree on theories but I am almost positive the lake won't go away. I am pretty sure they need that water to act as a collector for all the run off from the surrounding land that can't absorb rain water. They have to offset that or that section of the park would flood. There are other things they could do but a retention pond is the simplest. The boat is where I'm unsure. I'm baffled if they do remove it because it moves so many people at once and removes them from the park flow for a bit. Also since it's a track based ride it shouldn't be a big deal to reroute it like they did in California. It seems they'd cut route in half and just have it circle the lagoon and keep the high density ride. Only other thing I can think of removing it is it's up for maintenance, the parts are too expensive, so they ship the engine to Disneyland for spares and turn the boat into a walk through.
Growing up in Central Florida, I'd be dropped off at the park with $40 for food while my mom went to work during the summer in the mid-to-late 1980's and early 1990's. I'd spend some days nearly full time on Tom Sawyer's Island for the AC and low crowds. I was 8-12 yrs old and loved it.
This is a classic. It will be sad to see it go. I love it, but again I just love everything old school Disney. Great video and documentation of the area Adam.
Young people are making the decisions. Money hungry ones. Everything new looks cheap too. Older people are more imaginative. Probably because of social media.
@@traceytrotter9934 it’s not your younger people making its decision. It’s your board members in the CEO of Disney making the decision as it will cost less doing this than upgrading what needs to be upgraded as it is now. They don’t care anymore they could care less about their fans and listen to what they have to say. They’ve gotten so hungry, and do not correctly update the the parks like they should be.
I go to Tom Sawyer’s Island and ride the Liberty Belle on every trip. Wish more people had done the same.😢 These are the things that separate the Magic Kingdom from Universal Studios. We’ll probably lose Big Thunder at some point. Thanks for the video!
Those caves look fun. I’ve never been to TSI on any of my WDW vacations. Part of me thinks the look and feel of the caves would be great reimagined into the queue of the upcoming Cars attraction.
Sighs thanks for sparking the memory of the island .. it makes me remember the Hannibal Caves tour we went on as young'uns out in Hannibal Missouri .. the walk thru caves and that fort i agree shouldn't be taken away but makes sense when u state how it takes to get there.. everyone is in such a rush rush is probably maybe why it's been overlooked.. but you had several people in both boats when you went over maybe all you vloggers can show it is being used if the big mouse is paying attention .. anyways thanks for this walk through ❤
The Disney of Walt is gone. So sad. Disney will always hold family memories but with all the new imagineering/ers…I think it has gone too far”new” by replacing all the nostalgia. If that makes sense.
Cool to see Tom Sawyer's Island in detail in WDW, as we did all six parks in Disneyworld and Universal in six days and just skimmed Magic Mountain, since we lived next to Disneyland our whole life. By the way, Disney's Island use to have the Fort open as well, but this Island is overall way better than Disneyland. Thanks for sharing all the bits! Also, hoping they will put the LIberty Bell on a different body of water in the resort!
Kids these days don't get it the way us kids in the 70s and early 80s did. Growing up on Huck Finn, Davy Crockett and all those 60s and 70s Western movies and TV shows. It was like fantasy come to life stepping foot on Tom Sawyer Island. Especially with the fort and the caves. Gonna miss it. 😢
So, getting rid of the Rivers of America, the riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island might just be a popular rumor?????? I can surely hope so! I haven't been able to take my children to experience it yet and I have been so so so sad to think they won't ever get the chance. I am going to miss it!!!! Thank you for taking us along.
That was my favorite land. I’ll definitely miss the sights and more importantly the sounds like you said. I’ll miss the library bells whistle. I hope they put fort longhorn in Fort Wilderness resort still giving newer generations to enjoy it’s awesomeness
Our family did the island one time when our kids were little and that was it. It is time consuming to do. We did ride the boat multiple times. If I was a passholder, I would have done it more often. It comes down to the amount of hours you have to enjoy the park and priorities. Standing in line at the Haunted Mansion I did enjoy looking at the island though.
My wife and i have been wdw visitors for years and years. Every couple years we would check out Tom Sawyers Island. It is cool but not somthing we did often. The same goes for the River Boat. I will miss the visual look of them both. The look of them both fit those lands well. But, i think some big changes are about due. We will see how Cars fits into that area. I think they will go all out and do it big. I am always open for progress and change even if we have to lose somthing cool. I know Walt himself has countless quotes about change and the park never being finished. Bring on progress!
This feels like an unlocked part of the map. 30 years going to Disney World and i never knew any of this existed 😮

They could turn Tom Sawyers into a "Haunted Island Adventure"
They totally could
When Disney announced it, I thought they could just turn the island into a villans island and make a ride on it. Keep the river and make a boat to take you across. Maybe to save a Disney Princess from a villain. Sounds more fun than cars to me.
That would be awesome
Glad you were able to document the Island before it is erased from existence. Back when there was only Magic Kingdom it was visited more often.
Keep up the great work.👍👏👏
It amazes me how many people didn't know about the island. It's such a nice place to decompress. That riverboat❤...the sound and esthetic is perfect.
I think it's sad that people would rather spend an hour in a line than go to the island, but I think that's pretty much exactly why it's going away.
7:12 you could have told me this shot was from the 90s and I would have believed it! Amazing how it has been kept so pristine
Sad its going away have so many memories there! Thanks for sharing Adam!
When I used to work at WDW back in the 80s, I worked at Aunt Polly's on the island. The fort used to have a snack stand as well in the summer .
Dont forget the. "hidden" bathroom up in the fort!😂
Thank you for taking us along to see the last days of TSI. I, too, will miss the Riverboat whistle. So sad. Too bad they could not find room in Hollywood Studios for carsland.
Hi Adam, as you come the cave i like that awesome veiw.Thats funny the sleeping guard snoring and his chest moving.Nice one from Universal Jamie.
Glad to be back at WDW … living my best Disney life through you buddy!
I was just at Tom Sawyer's island two weeks ago, and I heard it might be going away so I had to see it. And it was my 1st time at Disney! I loved it.
Yep everyone’s going to say goodbye
Na na na na na na na na hey hey goodbye
It has always been busy. The rafts are always full every time I’ve been to the kingdom.
@@stevemundy9886Same to you!
Hey Adam great FL video getting in Tom Sawyer Island, attractions and the River Boat before they are all gone..Enjoy your day..
Glad you got the chance to make a visit to the island and ride the riverboat again. We did both not too long ago and the fort was closed at the time. It will definitely be a drastic change with the new stuff coming.
Oh wow! You were on the raft, then on the riverboat, then on the train , then on the monorail!! Magic of camera!!
Great footage thanks for filming! We have the same views on the expansion. They have so much land just build a new park to compete with Epic. Live in Sanford for the last 25 years grew up in Buffalo for 26.
I love how Magic Kingdom look so retro.
Thank you for the tour of Tom Sawyer’s Island Adam Being physically disabled I don’t remember going further than the raft landing and aunt Polly’s refreshments area. I agree with you I will miss the sound of this section of the magic kingdom the liberty bell has been must do during all my trips to Disney I’m SO SAD to realize that it probably will be gone by the next time I visit 😢
thank you Adam. love your takes on this isle!
That strange noise bit and your reaction had me laughing. Have a good day Adam
My husband and I would always go to Tom Sawyers island and go sit in the rockers and watch big thunder mountain.
Dang that sucks seems like every year something changes just keep on vlogging them they will always be available to look back on throughout time Thank You
Tom Sawyer island is a place that children and adults can go and use their imagination to create their own adventures. It is a shame Disney wants to “erase it from existence.” 😢
Bye bye Tom Sawyer
When was the last time time you went over there?
Grew up next to D-Land...I still miss the boat whistle...and had instant recall of sound of the raft to Tom Sawyers Island. 🥰 My heart is sad it's all going away.😢
Disneyland= Many many Happy Happy memories.
Oh yea get 192 is a shell of what it once was . Covered it many times, love orange world
It’s hard to watch this video and not feel sadness that this will be lost.😞 😢
Epic shot here Adam. More epic than that time your captured the Mickey power pole with a Mickey cloud in the distance. 👍🏼 5:30
Oh to be under Florida skies, home is where the heart is. Wish my home was Florida! 😢
This is a classic. It will be sad to see it go. I love it, but again I just love everything old school Disney. Great video and documentation of the area Adam.
I just wish it wasn't being touched. WDW has so much land that the beyond big thunder idea would be perfect. Sigh
Disney is little by little ruining the parks for most families
Young people are making the decisions. Money hungry ones. Everything new looks cheap too. Older people are more imaginative. Probably because of social media.
@@traceytrotter9934 it’s not your younger people making its decision. It’s your board members in the CEO of Disney making the decision as it will cost less doing this than upgrading what needs to be upgraded as it is now. They don’t care anymore they could care less about their fans and listen to what they have to say. They’ve gotten so hungry, and do not correctly update the the parks like they should be.
Degenerate DEI rainbow stuff enforcers.
They should put the Liberty Belle in a harbor n turn it into a haunt for Halloween. It would be AWESOME!!!
I go to Tom Sawyer’s Island and ride the Liberty Belle on every trip. Wish more people had done the same.😢 These are the things that separate the Magic Kingdom from Universal Studios. We’ll probably lose Big Thunder at some point. Thanks for the video!
Love the new changes that are to come
Those caves look fun. I’ve never been to TSI on any of my WDW vacations.
Part of me thinks the look and feel of the caves would be great reimagined into the queue of the upcoming Cars attraction.
Fabulous content, Adam!
Sighs thanks for sparking the memory of the island .. it makes me remember the Hannibal Caves tour we went on as young'uns out in Hannibal Missouri .. the walk thru caves and that fort i agree shouldn't be taken away but makes sense when u state how it takes to get there.. everyone is in such a rush rush is probably maybe why it's been overlooked.. but you had several people in both boats when you went over maybe all you vloggers can show it is being used if the big mouse is paying attention .. anyways thanks for this walk through ❤
I started going to it again when my now 10 year old boy was 2 and I usually now go at least once every 2 trips to WDW. It's so cool, we love the caves
Damn! We've been trying to meet you for the last few years just to say hi. We was in MK yesterday and we missed you.
Wouldn’t it be cool if they parked the Liberty Belle and turned it into a restaurant??
The Disney of Walt is gone. So sad. Disney will always hold family memories but with all the new imagineering/ers…I think it has gone too far”new” by replacing all the nostalgia. If that makes sense.
Morning Adam 😎📸 like the t shirt 👕 thanks for sharing this about the changes going on with Disney, and you saying goodbye to Magic Kingdom riverboat.
Woah. I was NOT expecting the van!
makes more sense to put the beloved "Cars" land behind TM. probably cheaper to do that way. but, not about the fans.
I’m waiting till it’s done to judge it .
I think walt would be appalled at this decision and a direct link to him will be lost forever
Hi Adam the woo. So happy for you. I hope 🤞 you travel more still like the pink shirt 👚 ordered years ago. 👍🤗
I hope to visit in January for the first time in 13 years and one of my goals is to go to Tom Sawyer Island. I hope they’re not working on it by then.
Your’ underground’ tour was brought too ‘life !!! 🎭🎭🔱🎧
