Fantastic video! For me C-x C-t goes right to TODO without a prompt for state. How did you configure that? Also, I think init.el assumes a .emacs.d directory in your home, otherwise I think it's just .emacs. I'd love to see a video on how to break up org-mode content across files. I make one per day, but it gets unwieldy and I end up with the same todo items in multiple files, which breaks org-agenda with lots of redundancy. I'm sure there are multiple strategies here, but I'd love your thoughts. Thanks!
Thank you! Did you mean C-c C-t? In that case perhaps it is because you don't have any alternative keywords set. You can either set the `org-todo-keywords` variable or, at the top of your org file, see this: orgmode.org/manual/Per_002dfile-keywords.html Now about init.el that sounds right, I have never used a .emacs file because I tend to have more files and whatnot. Re breaking up org content, it's really a personal choice. You're right I definitely should do a video on this topic. There are many tools out there to help, perhaps 'denote' might be up your alley. Must avoid same todos in multiple places though!!
That's a great question. First I'll say that it's 100% personal preference/situational but for me, since I'm in school and have multiple very distinct things to attend to (TODOs for each class, essentially) I use headings to separate TODOs. When off school, however, it seems that I just pile everything under one heading. I will note however that I use tags in both cases, as that makes sorting in my org-agenda very easy, so I suggest you do the same. A good org-agenda takes the thought out of the process. Again very good question, I am considering a video on the topic, it will be a difficult one to make.
Thank you! I think it would make a very good video since usually todo apps are straightforward unlike orgmode which can be shaped in different ways which might make users a bit lost like in my case, I did try to separate different types of TODOs by headlings but I still didn't need tags so far. Thanks again I love your content.
Mind sharing some version info (emacs version and org-mode version), or any customization / setup you made? My emacs/org is pretty much a plain install, and doesn't seem to act like yours here.
Hi, unfortunately I am not sure, org 9.5 just came out a few days ago and I haven't updated yet. I do know they updated something with tag selection so maybe that's related. Apologies, I'll update when I can.
Your "a bit more unscripted content" is excellently organized, clear and succinct. Subscribed. The time spent on it was really worth. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for the nice comment. Glad the video is appreciated.
god this is so much better than hour long videos. thank god you exist.
What a kind comment, that really means a lot. Thank you and I am glad my video was helpful.
This was really clear! I'm hoping to incorporate this into a habitual workflow and the presentation made for great food for thought, thanks
Great video, very informative as always Jake, thanks!

Do you separate different TODO items by headlines ? or do you just write all of them under the same headline and use tags in each item ?

Sure, take a look on my channel, I have a walk-thru of my Emacs config, feel free to skip ahead to the Org Mode section.
How did you change the ... (three dots representing a folded heading) to ▼ at the end of each heading?
I think that’s the org-ellipsis variable. You can check out my Emacs config tour video
@@JakeBox0 Thank you!
In my org-mode (9.5) C-c C-t (org-todo) doesn't have a choice menu. So where does this come from?

what is this slick nice theme you're using?
It is modus-vivendi by Prot.
How do you scroll through the time at 7:50?
That would be ‘org-shiftup’
👍👍
I like, but mugging my poor old eyes with the white background and small font
