    just wondering about your opinion on one org file vs split org files?

    • @JakeBox0

      Yeah, good question. Generally I think I lean towards split files for notes but single file for tracking todos. I do have one huge file for personal notes but that's mainly because I generate a website from it and it was easiest to set up from one file.

    Fantastic video! For me C-x C-t goes right to TODO without a prompt for state. How did you configure that? Also, I think init.el assumes a .emacs.d directory in your home, otherwise I think it's just .emacs. I'd love to see a video on how to break up org-mode content across files. I make one per day, but it gets unwieldy and I end up with the same todo items in multiple files, which breaks org-agenda with lots of redundancy. I'm sure there are multiple strategies here, but I'd love your thoughts. Thanks!

    • @JakeBox0
      @JakeBox0 5 месяцев назад

      Thank you! Did you mean C-c C-t? In that case perhaps it is because you don't have any alternative keywords set. You can either set the `org-todo-keywords` variable or, at the top of your org file, see this: orgmode.org/manual/Per_002dfile-keywords.html Now about init.el that sounds right, I have never used a .emacs file because I tend to have more files and whatnot. Re breaking up org content, it's really a personal choice. You're right I definitely should do a video on this topic. There are many tools out there to help, perhaps 'denote' might be up your alley. Must avoid same todos in multiple places though!!

    Just found your channel after watching your keynote at EmacsConf. Loving it! As a noob, I especially like the straightforward part. Question about your Dropbox implementation -- how did you set that up? And do you save all your files right into Dropbox and work on them from there? I'm getting a ThinkPad for emacs use and want to be to access the same files as on my desktop. Thanks again!

    • @JakeBox0
      @JakeBox0 5 месяцев назад

      Oh, great! Glad you like it! The Dropbox is pretty simple. I just keep all of my Emacs related stuff in Dropbox. I then make a symlink from an Emacs configuration folder to my home directory. There are apps that help you do this, I use one called Mackup but I believe there are others. It has worked well for me, you just need to symlink once and then any change you make on one device will propagate to the other thanks to Dropbox. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    • @BobIrving2
      @BobIrving2 5 месяцев назад

      @@JakeBox0 Thanks for the reply. I've never heard of symlink, but it sounds like that could be my ticket. I'll look for a Linux app that can do that. Would it also work with GDrive? And would that also make the folder accessible on multiple devices, which is what I really want?

    • @JakeBox0
      @JakeBox0 5 месяцев назад

      @@BobIrving2 Symlinks can be created with the `ln` command. Google Drive I imagine would work the same, unsure how it looks locally but for my drive I can just cd in to the directory.

    Is there an editor that lets me edit the equations real-time like in word, at least a symbols tab would be appreciated, I cannot stand having to constantly hit "altgr+some key" to get the stupid slashes, carets... and all the stuff required? As it stands right now, I don't see myself ever switching from word, even though LaTeX looks much nicer word is just so much faster.
