    Love the straightforward, informal, laid-back review as opposed to twenty minutes of snooty pontificating. Just tried this and found similar notes, although was surprised it was a little hot for a 40%. Looking forward to your other reviews. Ignore the snobs dude.

      Standard practise for Dalmore unfortunately. Have a look online as you can usually find some Indie bottlings that raise the bar considerably

    Very straightforward review....The Dalmore 12 handles a SMALL splash of water like a champ, IMO.
    No snobbery here...subbed.

    I particularly enjoy the Dalmore range as well although agree about the price of some of them being ridiculous.
    As for the added colour the 2 reasons I can see are consistency across bottlings as people can be fickle and if they see 2 bottles of 12 year with different colour whisky in they'll avoid the lighter bottle in case it's inferior. That leads onto the second reason which is that most people not in the know who still enjoy whisky think the darker the colour the older/better quality the whisky - so add colour to make it darkroom and slap a shiny stag on the front and instantly people assume it's better quality than another 12 year (which in some cases it certainly is).

      I mean, yeah. Who can afford even some 12 yr.drams , for the money, there's 15's that you can find for $80, 90 etc. if you 🤔 shop around-- however I need to try The Dalmore as I really enjoy sherry casks and oaky whisky 🥃🥂cheers from ETn, Smoky Mtns.

      No Nonsense Whisky I also have a £50 limit, got the 15 a few years ago, bang on £50, but yeh, they are priced slightly higher. Then whisky in general has become more expensive, mostly due to demand. Well it's a shame I don't have it anymore, to send you a sample😀

    The bottle that I have here has this massive whiff of cabbage on the nose that overpowers absolutely everything else. I'm wondering if there wasn't something wrong with the batch or perhaps the storage at the booze shop.

  • @welshtoro3256
    @welshtoro3256 7 лет назад +6

    I'm glad you like it Vin but I don't care for Dalmore. They are hideously overpriced for what they deliver. £40 for added colour, chill-filtration and a miserable 40%. Compare that to the Glendronach 12, the Benriach 12, Bunnahabhain 12 (the list goes on). All cheaper and better.

    • @JasonWhiskyWise
      @JasonWhiskyWise 7 лет назад +1

      Agree with you Welsh, I'm more with my GlenDronach's over Dalmore

    • @MaltMondays
      @MaltMondays 7 лет назад

      So I finally decided to buy a bottle of Dalmore 12 despite my agreements with all of what you've said above about the coloring, abv, etc and hating on them for the longest time and expected it to taste cheap and bland. But here's the thing: I actually like it a lot more than I expected to. I never make a verdict off one taste, I'm just saying it surprised me. I'll post a review soon after I've compared it with some other 12 yrs to see how it really compares.

  • @onYTsince2008
    @onYTsince2008 4 года назад +2

    Personally, I will NOT be buying Dalmore 12 , because,
    - you pay SO much more, just for the "name". The bottles are just overpriced (just like Macallan & Ardbeg).
    - The Dalmore 12 is just TOO "watery".
    - There is just too much colouring added to it, AND it is chill-filtered.
    I would rather buy a Glendronach 12 instead, perfect substitute for the Dalmore 12, and so much more bang for the buck!!
    (except I wished it was 46%, or more...).

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  4 года назад

      I do like the Dalmore 12 but I completely agree. The Glendronach 12 is a much better whisky

    • @onYTsince2008
      @onYTsince2008 4 года назад

      @@NoNonsenseWhisky What I meant was, if a friend gave me a dram of Dalmore 12, I would still take it. I don't "dislike" the Dalmore 12, it just that it's intrinsic quality of the Dalmore is not even close to the Glendronach 12. Therefore, I would spend money for better quality, not "fillers" of the Dalmore (colouring, chill-filtering, low abv)...

  • @foodquig

      Doesn't matter a hoot to me if the flavour AND price is right. While the 12 is fine, the rest of the Dalmore range can be drastically overpriced for what you get (and compared to what other distilleries are doing)
