Cheap locks can be difficult to pick because they are badly made. Soft materials and poor machining reduce feedback. This also makes them bad for real world use of course, because they wear faster and are more prone to destructive attacks.

So, Eurocylinders front and back, padlock on the gate etc, all on one single key. Truly the king of door locks in the UK.
Replaced all of mine a couple of years ago mainly for the keyed-alike function. Someone tried to snap the front door lock a few months ago and the lock worked exactly as it was designed to. So glad I did this as the old locks were put in by the builders and they would have been in the house in seconds if they were still in place.
Same, had these in our last house, wouldn't use anything else. Got new house, time to get installing. Only problem is if you lose your key you have to buy a new house.

I have them in my house, they are way above any requirement your home insurance would have around locks. The bonus is that you can buy them as keyed alike from the start, or once your card is registered, if you phone Avocet, then they can make a cylinder based on the card information, so you can add keyed alike afterwards if you wanted to, which you can't with a lot of other systems
Had to check this out as I have one of these locks, didn’t realise how well made they are. Very interesting video & reassured by the complexity, thanks
I seen this video a few years ago, for some reason came back to watch today. There had been a few burgalries in my general area not long after this video came out where entry was gained by snapping attacks, Eurocylinder locks are pretty much universal in my area. LPL was a great accidental advertisment for this lock, out came the old Eurocylinders and in went the new Avocet ABS locks. After a 2-3 years of use no issues with them, they are doing great.
I now realise why they are so expensive. I fitted these to my hose when there was a spate of break ins locally using tapping or snapping Eurolocks. I can confirm that the snapping feature does work as I have had two which had such an attack. The neat thing was that the key still undid the remnants of the lock!
This is the exact locks I have in my home Cost me a small fortune but after watching this video I know I’ve made a good decision for my home security. Thankyou for the detailed video
Even the most difficult lock with the best there is (lock picking lawyer) can eventually pick open a lock of this calibre ( that's not me:-) in ideal situations, IE a nice vice on a bench. I have to open a lot of fire trail locks, as authorized, with the authorized key supplied. We even struggle with the correct key, on our back, lock in horrible tunnels, nasty spiders, those situations make even the simplest lock impossible to pick. Thanks for all your video's.
Just the study of the different locks and their operation is daunting, let alone figuring out what method or tools to use. I'm happy just being able to open desk drawer locks when you lose the key.
Feels like this is one of those rare locks that actually would be great at keeping most unwanted visitors out. Also, probably the most intricate lock I've ever seen. Seems at first like gimmicks, but on closer inspection they actually sound useful.
may have been a long video but VERY captivating! also I betting when the engineers see how you eased your way through their lock, they are going to be so pissed off!!! lol super skills on that one. brilliant!!
Thanks... the unusual locks are the ones that are the most fun, but also require the most explanation so people unfamiliar with the lock know what's going on. I'm glad I didn't lose you.
Hi LPL,I'm from the UK and about 10 years ago, there was a spate of burgalaries across the country. Most builders here fited Euro locks as they were cheap, and still do. A national TV channel ran a current affairs program, highlighting the problem and of course they showed how to snap a lock in full detail. The problem became much worse, as more criminals became wise to the ease of entry. I did a little research and discovered the Avocet ABS. I fitted them to all my external doors and often wondered if they were as good as hyped. Your video tells me I made the correct choice. Albeit mine are probably Mk.1's? Really enjoy watching your videos and skills. A Master at work. Thank you. J.
Of all the places I've lived there was only one place that had this type of lock and honestly this video made me understand the security features in depth, and had me in awe over the landlords keenness for safety and security of their tenants property.
I just found this awesome channel and thought I would check out these locks which I fitted at home 3 years ago. Very resassuring, and shows the extra research I did before choosing them was time well spent.
In the UK, I have these on my doors since about 2015. I am pleased to see the sales pitch was about right! However, in spite of all the technology, the weakness I have with these is the plastic on the key itself. My front door has a special (removable as it happens) piece of metal that turns the door into the kind where you can push it closed and it locks because of how the bolt slides into place. Turning the ABS key is an additional piece of locking, therefore. To open the door you must whizz the key around, to unlock the ABS part. This is resistance-free. But then you must turn the key through an additional 10-15 degrees, against a resistance, to also retract the bolt. Only then can you push the door open. After many months turning against this resistance, the crappy plastic fatigued completely, and it's taped up. After getting an emergency pair of pliers to be kept in the car, just to turn the metal shaft of the key so I don't get locked out, I decided to remove that piece of metal, and return the door to a pure mortice lock.
Only recently found TLPL videos 🙂 Having upgraded all my house locks Inc a paddock to ABS some years ago it's been reassuring after watching this video that they are as good as the hype when I purchased them. Many Thanks TLPL 👍

I don't know it you have done any lock picking but I have tried it and still working on it and I have to say it is not as easy as it looks when you see a lock smith doing it. These guys work with locks every day and in the video the skill level of Lock Picking Lawyer is excellent and beyond that of a would-be thief trying to break into your house these thieves are lock snappers what they do has to be quick and simple and the Avocet will defeat snapping and drilling I considered it to be my best choice.
Ref Fat4all .. Sorry mate I hadn't seen the tool you are talking about until just now pretty awesome, but I still can't see your average thief spending £110 then checking out perhaps a 100 doors till he finds Avocet 3 star ABS but I see where you are coming from. I think the worse part of the lock is the keys because the magnet sticks to anything it can and worse case it may weaken it to a point that it won't open the lock (time will tell).
I really enjoyed watching you work on a strong, smart design difficult one. Kudos to that company, 17 minute LPL videos are not common. Happy Holidays!
Wow. DUDE. This shit is so cool. Ive been picking locks as an amateur for a few years, and I've NEVER seen anything like this lock before. Also... STOP apologizing for long videos dude! We love it!

I just found your channel! I know this video is 3 years old, but you should never apologize for a long video!! Your "hobby" is absolutely mesmerizing 😁. I think you just hooked me on something I've never thought about.
I have these locks and it's encouraging to see how long it takes an expert locksmith to open. Long enough for me to be ready with a baseball bat by the time/if they get in!
Just looking at the number of minutes and the fact that he felt the need to disassemble it before picking it, speaks volumes for the quality of the lock.
The manufacturers are watching this and thinking "what else can we do!!??" This was absolutely amazing to watch. Not very many people who could probably pick this.b
Make a electric circut which need the approiate voltage to engade open a pin a flat metalpice that might not open it but must be a coduit or tranistor but how would you get into a key -or maybe a sensor part instead which would measure a specific part on the key if the material is wrong then no open
Thank you LPL, that's one of the best and informative videos I've seen for ages. That's one tough cookie ;-) p.s. nice to see its got the British standards kite mark on it.
honestly, i think the biggest security flaw of this lock is that they put the name on the front. Security through obscurity is a terrible foundation, but it does have its place.
Fantastic lock and great pick. I hate coming up against these locks on warrants! There is a tool (just bought one but not tried it yet) that opens them but I've heard it actually snaps the inner pins and impressions the outer ones. If that's true I guess it's the 'magic' opening tool we've been looking for over here
Thanks. I just saw a video of that tool a couple hours ago... pointed out to me by Apache. It seems like the far more practical approach for opening these lock in the field, compared to picking... though it s a little disappointing to learn that it's destructive.
@@etc112productions For obvious reasons professionals don't like to advertise entry tools that can allow a complete novice to do what has taken us years to learn.
Simply outstanding design and nicely manufactured lock. As usual, you make it look easy to gut a core without launching pieces of it around the room. So, not to cast dispersions, could you do this on a differently keyed version out in the field?
Unbelievable. I can believe you picked it, but I can't believe you were able to gut this thing. I would have kept watching if the video was twice as long. Thanks for posting it, as well as the dozens of your other videos I've watched. I really enjoy your channel a lot.
A lot of the people who are buying better quality locks want keyed-alike or master-keyed options. So it needs to be possible for locksmiths to take the things apart and re-key them to customer requirements.

I have these ABS “keyed alike” locks on my house, my front door was indeed attacked and snapped, but it remained secure and thwarted the burglary attempt. I replaced the front door lock with a Yale Conexis L1 electronic lock which, I think will help thwart the type of attack I experienced. My wife’s purse was recently stolen complete with her key fob, and driving license with our address on it, unfortunately the ABS key which opens the rear doors on the house, so I recently bought new locks of the mk3 version. The old locks I have given to a friend of mine to upgrade his locks, so they won’t go to waste.
I'm A locksmith and to get in one of these we snap the front drill out the remaining pins then use any old abs key we have lying around the van and it disengages the locking pins. Would love to pick these on site but it's not practical with the magnet. Nice video

I can confirm that the snapping feature does work as I have had two which had such an attack. The neat thing was that the key still undid the remnants of the lock!
I love the calm voice
I just listen to these videos in the background as I do other things
Excellent, you made that look easy, much respect!
Thank you... FWIW, it's not an easy lock.
This is the exact locks I have in my home
Cost me a small fortune but after watching this video I know I’ve made a good decision for my home security.
I can't even pick my nose without making it bleed. I have absolutely no idea of what he's doing but I like watching the videos.
Having just thwarted an attempted snap attack at home, did some research and have fitted these. Really happy seeing this video now
Loved it, nothing is too long for people to skip if they need to and you don't ever waffle. What a delightfully designed lock
I had done lots of research and I believe this is still one of the best house locks in existence!!!
Only recently found TLPL videos 🙂
Having upgraded all my house locks Inc a paddock to ABS some years ago it's been reassuring after watching this video that they are as good as the hype when I purchased them.
Many Thanks TLPL 👍
Really very good, I have just fitted two of these to my property and what you have demonstrated is very reassuring
Thanks. They appear to be nice locks. You should feel quite secure with them.
PhilH66 i wanted to buy these locks as well but having seen that opening tool and how easy it is im not gonna buy these locks. i wouldnt feel secure with these at all
I don't know it you have done any lock picking but I have tried it and still working on it and I have to say it is not as easy as it looks when you see a lock smith doing it.
Thanks for a fascinating lock. Brilliant how you just take it apart and put it together!!
Awesome picking and information. I admire your devotion and skills. Great video!
Thanks -- much appreciated.
We love it!
Opening this lock kinda reminds me old bank robbery movies and complex safe picking procedure. Neat!
If this guy is as thorough with the law as he is with lockpicking, well lets just say, im staying out of jail haha
Right! I got a few people to kill. Don't worry, I have The LockPickingLawyer, as my lawyer.
The best lawyer: even if you lose the case, he will still get you out of jail
I love LPL videos, and was nervous when I saw this title, as I have these on all my external doors at home. Needless to say after 17 minutes, my mind is at rest. A good investment and a great pick. Thanks!
This lock is the most well designed lock that I have ever seen. You are the man to be pick this. Good pick.
Thank you.
the lock is a piece of art, beautiful. I will need to watch it a couple more times to get a better understanding . your picking is amazing as well
Thank you.
That was phenomenal! Amazing lock but your picking and analysis is more than just a cut above. Gobsmacked!
Wow! This lock. They took security seriously. I haven't seen a lock this secure ever. This was awesome thank you.
I just found your channel! I know this video is 3 years old, but you should never apologize for a long video!! Your "hobby" is absolutely mesmerizing 😁. I think you just hooked me on something I've never thought about.
Long video but glued to the screen for the entirety of it. This lock was an adventure to pick and learn about
I have these locks and it's encouraging to see how long it takes an expert locksmith to open. Long enough for me to be ready with a baseball bat by the time/if they get in!
Just looking at the number of minutes and the fact that he felt the need to disassemble it before picking it, speaks volumes for the quality of the lock.
I’ve been watching you for a little while now and I love finding these nice long videos.
Great job, that's a mean looking lock
+WM2869 Thanks... it is a tricky one!
Love all your long videos, especially when it’s something as interesting as this.
This is by far the best lock I aver seen in your channel. It deserved a long video.
That's one tough cookie ;-)
p.s. nice to see its got the British standards kite mark on it.
You are an ace! So great to see anyone who is so good at what they do!
What was harder, picking it, or reassembling it the first time?
Neither is really “hard” ... but both are complex and time-consuming.
@@lockpickinglawyer wow
@@lockpickinglawyer wait itsn't that the definition for hard?
AgentFire Yeah that's pretty much what I call hard😂😂
@@AgentFire0 i'd say hard is more like " tough to figure out" rather than "tedious"
Potti said it best. Truly amazing work!!!
Thanks buddy.
Fantastic video! I’m always curious about the engineering of those locks, but this one is on a superior level.
This might be the best seal of approval any lock can recieve
honestly, i think the biggest security flaw of this lock is that they put the name on the front.
Security through obscurity is a terrible foundation, but it does have its place.
You know it’s a good lock when you don’t get an “ok folks” at the end of the video
Done with the hands of a Surgeon. Most labor intensive pick I’ve watched. This a masterpiece of a lock.🗝
What an amazing lock, and the skills it took to pick that are amazing as well!
Really glad I watched this because I have three of these locks on my house and feel a lot better
The really interesting part is you knowing how to put it all back together correctly!
What’s the tool called?
@@etc112productions For obvious reasons professionals don't like to advertise entry tools that can allow a complete novice to do what has taken us years to learn.
it's called a rotor pick rotorpick.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=79
amazing what a simple google search will yield.
Wouldn't the Big Red Key normally be used on a warrant?
Gosh how I love mechanically driven things
Very tricky. Even a thief with a little time and privacy probably won't carry tiny magnets. And given the price it's a great-looking lock
Simply outstanding design and nicely manufactured lock. As usual, you make it look easy to gut a core without launching pieces of it around the room. So, not to cast dispersions, could you do this on a differently keyed version out in the field?
this is lpl my friend. if anyone can. he can.
Wow! What an amazing lock! This was like: LockPickingLawer: The Movie! It's so cool to see a lock that makes things hard for you.
Ive been learning picking for a couple months now and I have to say, watching LPL work made me think it was MUCH easier than it actually is Haha
I would really feel safe with a lock like that! Thank you!
there is a magic tool that opens this in seconds, magic key (impression attack) with magnets.
@@aitorbleda8267 no there isn’t
brilliant. complex and thorough analysis.
I don’t know much about locks but even I can tell this is an impressive piece of engineering.
The latest version is Forever Lock V.3 (New Launch 2020)
brand new lock core and key design, you must take a look!!!!

Recently got a new front door and it has this sort of lock. Awesome to see how secure it is, I assume they're much more likely to kick the door in.
Never cease to amaze me...
Wow! That's the most complex mechanism I've seen so far... Very fascinating! :D
that is a hella good lock took like 5 minutes and pretty sure that's faster than the majority of even professionals would be able to do it.
Cool - I am looking at these for my house (especially as Avocent do a rim lock too with the same key design). Very pleased to see it is so secure.
They are amazing, just watch and listen for small change being pulled out of your pocket when you whip your keys out!!! I've lost tons.
Nice video
I feel like I'm now on a FBI watchlist for watching these videos
