It seems like everybody is a critic. I just used your method on caulking around my door to brick and it worked quite well. I’ve always had trouble getting a good caulk line and using the tape method helped considerably. Thanks for posting.
Why are So many making videos of everything Wrongly done with caulking?? I haven’t seen one video yet where someone can even run the gun let alone knife and tool. None of these guys are bona fide legit caulkers Flim Flam men
I live in Maryland and would love to hire someone who took the time to do it like this but I've never seen any contractor use the blue tape. Nice work there!

And Wet Tooling would absolutely get you Fired immediately Taping and all the other flim flam wet tooling No Skills tricks are for clueless amateurs and literally Everything on all these “ expert “ videos is Trash None of these Wankers would last a day doing the Shit No Skilled work they do

He’s making a huge mess of caulk on the tape and when he pulls it he will absolutely Break the seal on both sides of the joint and then you just have a whole bunch of caulking in a window joint and No Seal at all I would absolutely be fired immediately if I ever did anything as dumb as what this poor untrained clueless guy is doing
Anothrr video they pressed the tape into the brick indents & used a much thinner line of caulk. After tape was removed, the caulking wasnt done well...barely in the brick indents and too thin.
Maybe a homeowner tip but absolutely horrendous to watch to a professional lol that tape and backer Rod takes way too much time, just use the right caulk with the right size hole, experience equals zero tooling.

@@shelby50411 even shooting a good bead doesn't guarantee that the caulk is going to stick you still want to tool it the point of tooling it is you want to push the caulk in the crack, joint, to make sure it is sealed, cant caulk over water and dust it wont stick, some forget that

@@jane1385Jane I am a pro . I have installed over 100 miles of sealant. And this is how I tell a homeowner to do it. He did all of the major things right( assuming he cleaned it well before he started.) He used backer rod for proper depth control and sealant profile. It should look like this ) ( thinner in the center and a little thicker where it bonds to the sides of the joint. And he tooled the joint without using any soapy water or even worse glass cleaner. Those are the 2 things that most of these videos get absolutely wrong. He should have tooled it in both directions with the tool a little flatter,not so much scraping. The goal is actually to force the sealant into full contact with the sides of the joint and force out any small air pockets 1st and to make it look nice 2nd. The backer rod should fit snuggly so it doesn’t move when you tool it. And hopefully you tool it smooth enough that you don’t need to use your finger. But as a homeowner that’s difficult to do, especially in brick or tile. BTW the rule of thumb for sealant depth is 1/2 as deep as wide. But, at least 1/4” but not more than 1/2” deep This is a solid video for a homeowner to follow.
I agree with you. I didn’t agree with the guy saying you don’t need the tape. Thanks for the Info though I will be attempting this tomorrow. I did it with clear caulk and didn’t realize how poor it would look. It just doesn’t even look caulked so I’m going to have to remove that first. Any tips on removing caulk? I still don’t know what color to go with, the brick is a beige color and the window area has some white. Any tips are welcomed.
@@jane1385 normally we cut the bulk out with a utility knife then use a razor scraper. Nut if one side is wood we use a Painters 5 in 1 tool to keep from cutting in to the wood. Just a quick question. You know the difference between silicone and urethane sealants right?

It also works well to use window cleaner when you make your joint. It's slicker than water, and is alcohol based so it evaporates rapidly.
Taping is wrong actually, pull the tape and break the seal. He’s not sealing anything with the tape prohibiting it

Using tape takes way too long and adds more cost...this is ok if u have just 1 window but if u have numerouse its just too time consuming
