Colossians Part 2. Christ, not legalism. Be a good worker. Another warning on fornication

20If you have died with Christ [y]to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, 21“Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!” 22(which all refer to things destined to perish [z]with use)-in accordance with the commandments and teachings of man? 23These are matters which do have the [aa]appearance of wisdom in [ab]self-made religion and humility and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.
Food or drink. Is it a legalistic issue. No. Is it how you get saved by following a certain diet? NO. NOt to say that a healthy diet is not important. Unhealthy diets and people eating the wrong foods is arguably a crisis in our culture. But that is a separate issue from what we are addressing here. I am currently on the no sugar diet, and it is great! I feel much better. But that is my own free choice. We would not judge others if they do not choose to do it. It is not an issue of Christian faith in essence.
The Sabbath, moons and other periods are mentioned along with it... again it all points to and belongs to Christ. WE need have Christ, and so do not need the other shadows of what is to come. Christ created it. Some including the SDAs get caught up in the issue of Sabbath and judge others who doe not worship or take Sat off work. This is wrong. YOu cannot read Colossians and be a SDA! IT does not line up. This letter is like speaking to them directly.
False humility is another warning they receive... men going around like monks doing crazy things to “show off their humility” Lutheran monks were said to lick the floors, self harm or mutilations. The issue of circumcision was a key issue for many of them. Some said if you wanted to be a Christian and in the family of God you had to do the procedure, even as grown men as the Jewish people. Maybe no strong drink or anastatic was taken along with it? THe pain would purify? See where you can

Secondly, the Christian work ethic.
Like any carnal cature, there is a tendency to not work as we should, or not work at all. ONe saying I like was “nothing is going to work in your life until you do.” A tragedy is our culutre is more often than not, many do not want to do hard work, then they wonder why there are in poverty or crying to the government for more welfare, food stamps, or their moms and dads for support well into adulthood. Christians can get too comfortable, Perhaps they are in a family which is well to do and think they do not have to work? But working and working hard ( an honest days work for an honest days pay) is God’s will. It is a balance, not to go overboard... but I rather be a bit on the overboard side than the idle side. “Idle hands are the devils workshop.” Many in our culture see it fit to do drugs and play video games all day... this while there isa worker shortage, and many jobs are filled by foreigners. There is a proverb A little sleep and little slumber.... your poverty will come to you like a vagabond.
1 thess 4 But we urge you, brethren, that you increase more and more; 11that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, 12that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.

We are glad your here. Please stay a while! This is a longer message, but it touches on many seriously important points we want to know in our lives. Set time aside and take this ministry in.
