Kathryn Elizabeth Smith was an American contralto. Referred to as The First Lady of Radio, Smith is well known for her renditions of "God Bless America" and "When the Moon Comes over the Mountain". She became known as The Songbird of the South because of her tremendous popularity during World War II.

Died: June 17, 1986 (age 79 years)

Layman....Damn thats a REALLY dusty old video, actually a film, they did not have video waaaay back then, I actually remember that, was in high school old 14 in black/white TV poor sound but Kate belted it out !!! You are really digging into the archives, but thats the way it was and notice she was dressed nicely ......... Thanks for the blast from he past on 4th July 2024 yeah 68 years ago......check your sound, it is really low barely hear you with full volume this end
