  • Every week, Eco India brings you stories that inspire you to build a cleaner, greener and better tomorrow.
    Not all of our waste ends up in landfills and scrapyards. Too much of it pollutes our seas and rivers. There are initiatives trying to change that. Along the Ganges river, a company from Germany is trying to help.

    Thank you for bringing this up. It's shameful that in our country where rivers are considered holy yet they're the most polluted. Not only politicians but ignorant people are equally to be blamed. Hope we learn & improve.

      does India have no rules about littering? in the US if your caught littering you get large fines. This is also a societal issue your people have grown up living surrounded by trash so your ok with trash being everywhere.

      @@HelminthCombos no one cares and corruption/bribe.
      If the fine amout is $100, the accused will pay $20-30 to the officer and that officer will let him go.
      If some officer denies bribe and take action, these people take help of local politician and put pressure on that officer to get their work done.
      As an Indian I lost all my hopes in this nation. Inefficient and corrupted officer's running the country.

    It's sad how so many rivers are being polluted in India! Such a shame! What the heck is the government doing? Too busy in religious conflicts???? In a few years, river water will be so polluted that it will be unusable and then we complain about lack of water! How immoral are the people that they are polluting the water and the lakes and rivers??? Where are government regulations??? Being paid of by industry owners who are also polluting the water?

      Why do we always have to blame the government ! Do we wait for the government everytime to come and tell us to keep our rooms and houses clean....isn't it normally done as a routine and necessity ? Likewise we need to be careful outside also, just look around how many people mindlessly litter, the public places etc, and not just the illiterate and not so aware people,. I have personally seen well groomed people, in swanky cars and houses doing more harm to the environment. It has to come from within, and we need to check eachother, whenever we can and make them aware. Please stop blaming others, and start the initiative from one's own end.
      Another big reason is the smart tactics used by the western countries, they ship all their trash to the poorer countries, who are already dealing with their own trash. Please read for yourself, the stories about trash being exported by these so called Clean, Developed and well organised countries to Asian countries including India. So in a way we are dealing with our trash and someone else's trash also....the western countries smirk at us for the dirt and the pollution around but we need to let them know, they need to handle their own trash and not pile up on us !!!!! We already have enought problems. And hope they realize Earth is round and very soon the same trash they thought vanished will reach their doorstep too !

      People need to stop littering, and mange their waste properly instead of carelessly throwing in streets, lakes, rivers, and oceans as if it doesn’t have an impact on the climate. The government is not fully to blame here, but human stupidity.

    China was affected by pollution more than ten years ago. This problem is easy to solve. 1. There are enough trash cans in residential areas. 2. The government establishes companies to collect and process garbage centrally. 3. Establish sewage standards and enforce them.4. Specify citizens’ obligations and refrain from littering..

    This is all very well to clean up River Ganges, though I still think it's a pointless task as the river has beyond the point of repairing. Has the authority stopped people dumping rubbish into the river or dishing out fines. There's no point to clean up on one side, but the other side is dumping rubbish.

  • @DistinctiveBlend
    @DistinctiveBlend Год назад +4

    Cleaning up the rivers is a good idea but seems kinda pointless if the people just continue to use it as a dump. Ideally you'd want to stop the rubbish getting into the rivers in the first place.

    Start up a garbage system that benefits both the environment and people's socio-economic difficulties. Why don't they introduce, for example, that you can reserve cans and plastic bottles? They could also give a certain amount of money for plastic bags if they return 5 kg of them at a time. Precisely to reduce plastic that is thrown into water.
