TThe cause of the failure was a contact failure of the external DC terminal, circuit pattern breakage and disconnection, soldering failure at the time of repair, capacitor failure of the volume circuit, etc. The circuit components of this set are big, so they are easy to maintain. According to the circuit diagram, the battery of the power supply is 4.5 V, but it is boosted to 14 V by using a DC-DC converter. It seems that a high voltage is required to operate the microcomputer and PLL chip at that time. You probably wanted a 13.8 volt power supply, but that would be a stationary unit. The circuit configuration is DUAL conversion. IstIF uses 66 MHz, 2ndIF uses 10.7 MHz, and the filter uses a 2 stage crystal filter. We also use a lot of FETs. Image interference is a very luxurious design that rarely occurs. I think this radio is an epoch-making product planning that still works today.
At first, I was thinking of buying an ornament if I couldn't fix it.However, the number of radios has increased since it was repaired.Thank you for watching!

Thank you Mr. Tengu and I did watch to the end😊. I have the same radio I bought for 30€ It worked a couple of years with no problem. Now the Volume will go low...with a Tap on top of radio the volume will return to normal. So could possibly be that capsitor in the volume circuit or a bad connection, maybe a solder failure. I will open it up and look. If it's only bad connection I can repair it. Even replacement of aCap is not a problem for me.. Mr. Tengu, thank you for sharing this repair video...you are a master 😆 Brian

Hello, dear Brian. Thank you for your comment. You did a very good shopping. But your radio doesn't seem to be working well. The volume of my radio was normal. However, a lot of carbon was attached. I cleaned the contacts of the volume. It's very easy because you can see the sliding surface. The cotton swab turned black. By the way, if you open the radio, please be careful. There is felt between the front panel and the back panel. This is to prevent vibration. This felt is hard and stuck. If you open it all at once, the inside will be disconnected like me. I wish you success.73s Tengu.

Good morning (In Japan,), dear Ralf. Thank you for watching until the end. At first, I thought it was difficult to repair, but the semiconductor was not broken at all, so I am happy that it was easy to repair.73s Tengu :-)

Friend, I have a radio like this Sony ICF 6500W and it started to stop working and the frequency in the VFO varies a lot. . Have you ever had or know someone who has had this problem with this Sony ICF-6500W radio or do you have any tips or know how to fix it. I thank everyone

Hello. Thanks for the message. If this is the case, it may be due to a poor contact in the frequency band selection switch. It might be a good idea to remove the rust from the contacts by flipping many switches. If that doesn't work, you'll have to replace the local oscillation transistor. Sorry for the late reply.73s

¡Buen trabajo Tengu! Me gusta mucho el plano final con la maravillosa música de RNZI de fondo, me recuerda a las viejas películas de serie B, solo te ha faltado hacer el vídeo en banco y negro. Saludos cordiales.

Hello, Mr. Onda. After I uploaded the video of Darth Vader, I repaired the radio. Shooting and editing the video took about five times longer than repairing the radio. Good BGM happened to come from New Zealand. It's the power of Darth Vader. Thanks for watching.73s Tengu

I have this radio in the original box and in brand new condition with frequency booklet. I bought it new and on sale for $98.00 in Aschaffenburg, Germany in 1983. I break it out and do some channel surfing every few years and then back in the box.

Hello, Mr. dapper. Thank you for watching. You also have skills. Great. I bought this radio for 25 dollars including shipping. I gave up repairing it at first. But I learned what I could do if I tried.73s Tengu(^^)v

Any radio will give trouble every now and then. It's patience that we need to repair it, and at times a bit of cursing, but in the end when it comes alive, you come alive too. We start to enjoy life once more.
