To be completely fair to him, he did explain in the video that the vast majority of toggles/switches/knobs/etc. cannot be just twisted around in a different direction. For about 90% of guitars out there you'd have to open up the guitar, disconnect the switch, turn it around, and resolder the wiring. MGK's signature Schechter is unusual (not unique, but unusual) in that regard. This guy doesn't seem incompetent as a guitar store employee from this video, he just didn't do his due diligence in checking all the details before putting the diss out there.

I don't understand the hate towards MGK's rock music specifically. It's definitely not for everyone, and he sure is hell not an AMAZING guitar player, but he's good enough to make catchy riffs that work with the songs he wants to create that blends with that style of music very well, plus he plays pretty well for the most part live in front of thousands which is more than most could say.

I wouldn't expect him to be able to play a solo because there is a reason why only the greatest of musicians sing while playing guitar because it should be second nature for you to play guitar if your also going to sing. People thinking playing normal bar cords is difficult but playing a solo and making it sound smooth is really difficult.

Well he does have a lead guitarist who writes the leads and MGK mainly sticks to rhythm so he can focus on his vocals. He’s not phenomenal at guitar but it looks more pleasing in this genre and takes talent to do both at the same time (imo).

I used to work in the music industry. 90% of all live music, the guitarist aren't playing. Live music is not supposed to sound exactly like the album. If the live show sounds exactly like the record, it is because you are listening to the record and not a live performance.
At first, I was wondering why the guitar in MGK's response video was left handed. Then, I noticed his tattoos were on the opposite arms in other pictures. So, the image was reversed, but why? Just reversing an image without any other manipulation isn't going to get around RUclips's copyright algorithms.
Well i watched the video a few days ago and it came to my mind: what if the switch is just reversed??!! because for me it makes sense that its off in the up position and on in the down position... i mean you could easily switch it off while stroking if off in down position. and that would definetely suck

Even if he isn't a guitar player just working at a music shop he should know that those type of toggle switches u can spin around to adjust where u want that toggle to be. I'm not a les paul guy but yeah I did the same thing mgk did with one of my Jackson's... also sometimes when u get a new guitar it maybe spun in the so called wrong position or not how it was supposed to be... which is a easy fix. In fairness to the guitar center guy most kill switches are in a button form but having said that I must say I believed that guitar technique was first used on a les paul with having one pickups volume off and one pick ups volume on so u can take the pick up selector and switch it back and forth making the kill switch sound effects. I can do that on one if my Jackson's but if I wanna do the kill switch effect on my charvel, ibanez or American strat I have a guitar cable with a kill switch button on it lol

Everyone is shitting on his guitar playing as if it’s his main instrument like Travis with drums… he’s a VOCALIST who plays primarily rhythm guitar as it looks better in this genre to be able to do both. While the rifts are not hard it’s not as easy as you’d think doing vocals at the same time. Plus he has a guitarist in his live band who writes the lead rifts. There are so many bands out there that people love like Blink182 just because their rifts are catchy (not technical or challenging); yet since it’s MGK I think people have to go the extra mile to express criticism.. Going from a rapper to an actual singing is already impressive, adding rhythms guitar into the mix along the journey is just a bonus. His albums are selling off of the shelfs like crazy so he’s obviously doing something right that all of the negative people below this post are not doing - hence why he is where he is and those toxic people are where they are with their musical career.
I don't really care for mgk but it makes more sense for the switch to be on while down so you don't accidently turn it off while playing. But eh still not good punk music

Typically guitar center employee doesn’t have much knowledge… even if a signature guitar has a switch going down that doesn’t mean the artist plays it like that. I could put my les Paul switch upside down without re-wiring that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. If he took 5 minutes to watch mgk play it’s very easy to tell he actually plays! He’s not some crazy ass player he’s just playing what he’s capable of playing. Anyone that’s been playing guitar for a while can tell mgk hasn’t been playing guitar professionally for decades you can easily tell he doesn’t have 15 years practicing 7 hours a day and I’m not talking shit he makes great music he’s a song writer not a technical shredder.

Well he does have a lead guitarist who writes the leads and MGK mainly sticks to rhythm so he can focus on his vocals. He’s not phenomenal at guitar but it looks more pleasing in this genre and takes talent to do both at the same time (imo).
He’s no guitar legend, he’s a rapper who’s dipping into a more emo/punk sound. I may like Eminem I can’t hate on kells, I grew up listening to them both. It’s super dope to see him playing guitar more in his music. It takes years, hell decades of practice to shred like some folks in the metal world do, you can’t be scared to keep shit simple.

I used to work in the music industry. 90% of all live music, the guitarist aren't playing. Live music is not supposed to sound exactly like the album. If the live show sounds exactly like the record, it is because you are listening to the record and not a live performance.
At first, I was wondering why the guitar in MGK's response video was left handed. Then, I noticed his tattoos were on the opposite arms in other pictures. So, the image was reversed, but why? Just reversing an image without any other manipulation isn't going to get around RUclips's copyright algorithms.

because for me it makes sense that its off in the up position and on in the down position... i mean you could easily switch it off while stroking if off in down position. and that would definetely suck

Even if he isn't a guitar player just working at a music shop he should know that those type of toggle switches u can spin around to adjust where u want that toggle to be. I'm not a les paul guy but yeah I did the same thing mgk did with one of my Jackson's... also sometimes when u get a new guitar it maybe spun in the so called wrong position or not how it was supposed to be... which is a easy fix. In fairness to the guitar center guy most kill switches are in a button form but having said that I must say I believed that guitar technique was first used on a les paul with having one pickups volume off and one pick ups volume on so u can take the pick up selector and switch it back and forth making the kill switch sound effects. I can do that on one if my Jackson's but if I wanna do the kill switch effect on my charvel, ibanez or American strat I have a guitar cable with a kill switch button on it lol

I totally believe he plays his own guitar, nobody would fake being that awful. All he can do is play power chords and the one time I've heard him try to solo it was clear he not only didn't have the dexterity to play lead but didn't understand enough music theory to even be attempting it. Everyone is shitting on his guitar playing as if it’s his main instrument like Travis with drums… he’s a VOCALIST who plays primarily rhythm guitar as it looks better in this genre to be able to do both. While the rifts are not hard it’s not as easy as you’d think doing vocals at the same time. Plus he has a guitarist in his live band who writes the lead rifts. There are so many bands out there that people love like Blink182 just because their rifts are catchy (not technical or challenging); yet since it’s MGK I think people have to go the extra mile to express criticism.. Going from a rapper to an actual singing is already impressive, adding rhythms guitar into the mix along the journey is just a bonus. His albums are selling off of the shelfs like crazy so he’s obviously doing something right that all of the negative people below this post are not doing - hence why he is where he is and those toxic people are where they are with their musical career.

Typically guitar center employee doesn’t have much knowledge… even if a signature guitar has a switch going down that doesn’t mean the artist plays it like that. I could put my les Paul switch upside down without re-wiring that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. If he took 5 minutes to watch mgk play it’s very easy to tell he actually plays! He’s not some crazy ass player he’s just playing what he’s capable of playing. Anyone that’s been playing guitar for a while can tell mgk hasn’t been playing guitar professionally for decades you can easily tell he doesn’t have 15 years practicing 7 hours a day and I’m not talking shit he makes great music he’s a song writer not a technical shredder.
