    *Question of the Episode - Who is your favorite individual elephant and why?*
    Mine is without a doubt Jati at the Cincinnati Zoo. She's the only elephant in the zoo's history to have a calf, her big personality makes up for her tiny size, and she has a full head of hair!

    Species List as of October 2023
    1. African Savannah Elephant (Two primary exhibits, technically could be three)
    2. African Lion
    3. African Painted Dog
    4. Common Warthog (two exhibits)
    5. Common Ostrich, Somali Ostrich (apparently), Hartmann's Mountain Zebra, Helmeted Guineafowl, Greater Kudu, Vulturine Guineafowl
    6. Reticulated Giraffe (could have access to the North Habitat)

    My favorite individual elephant is Msholo, who lives at my home zoo at Zoo Atlanta. Why is he my favorite? That’s a good question. Probably because he has such a big appetite to match his larger than life personality. I always am happy to talk about him whenever I’m at work, especially during the Elephant Care Demo on the weekends.
    Awesome tour, Zach! When I was there in September 2020, I went to the Serengeti Grill and sat next to the window to have lunch with the lions.

    Another great tour, and easily one of the best Savanna exhibits in North America, if not the best! I also saw you mentioned the Somali Ostrich in the description, which is funny because I've been to the zoo countless times and have never seen it. I've been told by people in this community that it's there but have only ever seen Common Ostrich. If the animal exists it may as well be a ghost 😂

    • @dororexgaming4205
      @dororexgaming4205 8 месяцев назад

      Dallas has 2 female common ostrich and 1 female somali ostrich, as they are all females its really hard to tell and basically impossible if you don't see them standing together, the somali is the darkest of the three but once again nearly impossible to differentiate if she isn't standing by the two common ostriches.

    • @samuelb66

      @@dororexgaming4205 do you know why they don't sign her? Do they have any sort of official documentation that says where she came from?

    • @dororexgaming4205
      @dororexgaming4205 8 месяцев назад

      @@samuelb66 that i do not know, other than that she came from the Los Angeles Zoo. I don't know why some species get signage and others do not, according to a post on Zoochat, she was moved from the LA Zoo as she wasn't getting along with the other animals there, so they kept the one that was behaving and transfered this one to Dallas where she seems to be doing fine.

    • @samuelb66
      @samuelb66 8 месяцев назад

      @dororexgaming4205 interesting. Because Los Angeles Zoo doesn't acknowledge the existence of their Somali Ostrich either. Do we know if it's even a legit Somali Ostrich? The image I found of the Los Angeles individual looks extremely similar to their female Common Ostrich. Also it came from an unnamed private collection, which makes me a little suspicious that it could possibly be a hybrid

    • @dororexgaming4205
      @dororexgaming4205 8 месяцев назад

      @@samuelb66 afaik they are pure, but there is only two females so not much can be done with them so they are a phase-out species.

    My favourite elephant is Tembo, the bull African elephant at Colchester Zoo. He's absolutely colossal and a real gentle giant, despite his unpleasant beginnings (he was brought to the zoo as a rescue from the Chipperfield Circus, where he had been abused - when he first arrived in the late 90s, he still had scars on his back from when he had been beaten).

    My parents used to have a membership to the Dallas Zoo, so I have seen Jenny there since I was a little girl. I have a soft spot for her.
    That said, I am also a sucker for babies. I have the cutest video of Okubili. I was at the Dallas Zoo back in October, and the weather shifted so it was raining all day when initially it wasn't supposed to. Annoying for many of the animals including us bipedal apes, but Okubili was clearly having a blast with the weather, lol.

    My favorite individual elephant? For that question, I'd actually have to go with three (though that doesn't mean I have anything against any other elephants I've seen before). The first one is Kimba from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, since I got to take part in a training session with her as a thank you for all the donations I gave to the zoo whenever I visited the place in 2020, how cooperative she was during this session, and how that experience left a big impact on me. My second choice is Tombi from the Indianapolis Zoo, since I got to meet her in 2022, but also knowing about her beforehand when first learning about the Indianapolis Zoo, and seeing how calm and cooperative she was during her training sessions, and how she allowed me to walk up and pet her after her training session was done. My third choice is Groucho from the Denver Zoo, since he's the largest land animal in Colorado, I've had the privilege of seeing him many times, and how he's been a big role model for the other elephants in the zoo. I always love watching Groucho take part in his training sessions, and see him interact with the other elephants. He definitely holds a special place in my heart.

    There’s also Satao from Tsavo East National Park in Kenya. Great majestic tusker. Killed by poachers in 2014..

    My name is Gerson
    My favorite individual is my elephant is Billy the Asian Elephant at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
    He is my favorite elephant because since I was little and started to go to the LA Zoo, he has always been my animal idol since elephants are my favorite animal.
    Everytime when I go to the zoo he is the first animal I would want to see and another reason is because he has always been my favorite specific elephant since my childhood, now, and always.
