  • Back when Burger King was still pouring Pepsi from the fountain.
    They switched over to Coke in 1990 (thx@flutebasket4294for that fun fact).
    Gotta love Orange SLICE (your camera is probably blocking it) seen in the video. That had such a unique tangy weird zap!
    The tie-in toy in this video is for the now forgotten Purr-tenders:

I remember I heard a song from 1978 for the first time in 2013, and now 10 years later I associate that '70s song with the summer of 2013 when I was traveling and first heard that tune. I get the same satisfaction from the fresh produce isle at supermarkets, especially when the misters are active. I remember back then my uncle used to work for Burger King. A rowdy customer started assaulting him. He defended himself and used force to get the man to leave the store. The manager shook his hand and thanked him.
    Today if a customer assaults you behind the counter, you are supposed to take the beating with a smile. You then apologize to the assailant on the way out as you are being fired.
    What a difference 35 years make.

He was offered free therapy through the company and was allowed to take a little time off. It was all on camera. Let them fire you and get a lawsuit and a half.

    My first job back in 88' was working at a Burger King, and I swear I wanted to strangle the marketing director that came up with the damn $.99 whoppers.
    On the weekends I would average making a thousand of those bloody burgers a day, no exaggeration.
    Each one being a special order, and to this day I still have nightmares.😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

My bff would work on the Specialties (fries, nuggets, chicken sandwiches, etc). My other friend would work the grill. And my other friend would be on the Burger Board during the lunch rush! My manager would expedite the food to drive thru and the front counter. I loved that job as a kid!!!

    People were so much more warm back then, evident from a casual experience in a 1988 Burger King. I was born in 1998 and I often resent how technology and smart phone-media changed everything. Even back in 2015 when I was 16 I could sense the decline of common decency. Obviously it wasn't always perfect back in 1988 either but, damn! To this day it's still very interesting to look back on and check out. Did people in the 1990s think the same of people in the 1950s ? i'm sure. history repeats itself.

    • @Earth1218
      @Earth1218 9 месяцев назад

      I think what you’re seeing is how much more comfortable people were with face to face communication and with each other back then. You lived your life on the outside, in society, with others. There were subtle norms that kept people generally pleasant with each other. That’s not to say there weren’t jerks, nasty customers, and rudeness. But it was the exception, not the norm.
      Today, many people live in a veiled, cloistered, digital world. We may actually be more connected than ever. But we’ve lost our ability for comfortable, face to face interactions. In our digital world, people are quicker to anger, to rudeness, and to randomly lashing out against others. Because of that, many seem to go through life anxiously, defensively, and on guard. Even when we’re in public, we’re hiding in our phones and avoiding interactions.
      No time period has ever been perfect. The 20th century definitely had its many problems. But there was a calmness and presence in everyday society then that we seem to have lost.
