In 2023 I purchased the Anna Griffin Empress and I love it. I wanted to get the Spellbinder’s machine but I went with electric due to a shoulder issue.
Thanks for this review. I thought the only difference was the silver color and of course the universal plates being included. I’m happy to learn it is supposed to be easier to turn. I’ll keep this in mind when I’m ready for a new machine.
I just changed from the big shot switch plus to this and it’s what I use exclusively now. I keep this beside my card making station and it’s perfect. I’m a spellbinders fanatic everything they make is top notch
I started card making a year ago and I guess I got the upgraded Platinum 6. I've been extremely happy with it and would recommend it without hesitation.
Yay! So glad you like it too!Yes, I am so glad they are now selling the machines with the Universal Plate System because that adapter plate makes it so easy to create 3d embossed images with the Spellbinders folders!
Thank you for this video. I started cardmaking late May-June last year and started with the SizzexBig Shot. I finally got the hang of it and I'm happy with it. Personally, if I were to upgrade, I would go for an Electric one. At old age, I would need one which does not stress my hand and arm.
Yes, electric machines are fabulous. I used to have one but in my currently small space (I share the office with my husband who works from home) it was getting difficult for me to work around the big cord and plug! And when he is on a conference call it was making a ton of noise lol!
@@RebeccaKeppel OH Sweet Lord, Rebecca! I would have never thought you share the space. It's always so pretty and tidy! Since I'm on a fixed income (SS) I dream with making a pretty space. The room is small but it works for me...somewhat. I would love to take advantage of the vertical space and then again, I have concrete walls and drilling into them is serious business. So in the meantime I'm living vicariously through you and enjoying yours! Be blessed!
@@HPNana- aren't camera angles magical lolol??!! I get lots of requests for a studio tour lol. I am kind of like, well here's my desk and here's my kallax backdrop, and here is my husband on a conference call AGAIN lol! But we make it work somehow! even a little corner is great if you can spare it! Happy crafting!
Thanks for the review. I have a Sizzix big shot that needs replacing issues with the handle x 2 before the machine was a year old and looking for something new. This was a big help 💜
I got a platinum when I blew my crossover machine however I got the large one I like the fact I can most times cut my entire Card at once. I got an electric Gemini but I never felt at ease using it so now it’s my hot foil machine and that’s all I use it for ( I have to wear a glove and sleeve so the large platforms cuts on the cranking …..reason for the electric one ).
I still have the old Spellbinders Grand Calibur that takes larger dies, as well as a Sizzix Big Shot and the Gemini Jr. I used the Gemini most often and the grand Calibur for larger dies and embossing folders. I loved the plates that came with the grand calibur. They never warped and rarely wore out. Wished they’d make them like those again. Thanks for sharing but I’ll pass. BTW your hair looks great! The color and cut suites you so well.
I spent some of my Christmas money on an Anna Griffin Empress mini - and I really like it. I have a switch, a Gemini Jr and Go, and a Big Shot manual. I like the new one the best and will have to consider the full sized one. Enjoyed this - TFS.
I looking into a new machine- my Sizzix Big Shot is doing what you said in your video- leaving little hairy pieces or not preforming right. I thinking about switching to the Spellbinder 6 thank you for this amazing video about it.
Thank you for sharing. My xmas gift to myself was the anna griffin empress. I love it. Now I have the platinum 6 (which I also love) and and electric machine (empress). Oh, and the sizzix sidekick (super easy to take on the go). I love seeing what other cardmakers use, as it does give me an excuse to go shopping. ;) Please keep sharing. BTW - your hair looks great!! Happy New Year!
I really like the look of that but I have a big shot expressions a Kit n Kaboodle pro cut a Grand Calibur a spellbinders mini and another one that compliments my glimmer machine soo it would be very naughty to buy another 😝 your machine looks brilliant though TFS
I got a new one last year with universal plate system so I wonder if mine is new and improved. That embossing folder says exclusive and that’s a bummer because it’s lovely. I love the fold up feature. Good for going to a crop.
I think if it came with the Universal Plate system and has the white and silver coloring it is the new and improved! I know! I really like the embossing folder!
I don't have a need for a new machine. I have the Sizzix BigShot and the Gemini jr. I was so excited to get the Gemini Jr., but after a few uses, I went back to my BigShot. There's a bigshot folding one, that I would have to compare to the folding spellbinder one when I'm ready for a new machine.
Happy New Year Rebecca! I am just curious, why the Spellbinders instead of the new Gina K die cutting machine (which from looking at a ton of videos, is exactly the same as the Bira Craft die cutting machine which is at least $50 less)?
I purchased the Platinum six, but have not used it due to frozen shoulder. In fact, i purchased the special sale that included the glimmer and better press machines. I am very sad not to be able to make cards at this time. Is frozen shoulder a common thing among card makers?
I am so sorry to hear that! I don't know about among cardmakers but I recently heard about it as a common thing among women. I hope you are feeling better and back to cardmaking really soon!
My Spellbinders Platinum 6 is the older version. I have had to replace one of the folding doors twice already. Definitely a design defect with the original Platinum 6. I will be curious how well the doors hold up for you with this updated version.
I have the previous version of the spellbinders Platinum machine (purchased in January 2021) and last fall I purchased the Spellbinders new/ improved plate system to use with it. I haven't had any problems with compatibility with the new plates and older machine.
Yes! You can absolutely use the original Platinum 6 with the new Universal Plate System. In fact, I have a video where I do just that! ruclips.net/video/J1o7F0BqHL8/видео.htmlsi=w01KKktJ-Qe11xDe
I bought the Upgraded Platinum 6 last September. It is more compact and convenient to use than the Big Shot. However, the handle keeps falling off no matter how tightly I screw it on. I don't know if this is a design flaw or I received a lemon.
I have the same problem with the handle except my machine is the Teal special edition Platinum 6 one from a couple years ago. The handle and screw is always popping off and then I have to go searching for where the screw flew to.
This used to happen ALL THE TIME with my original Platinum 6. Eventually I lost the little white cap that hides the screw.:/ It hadn't happened for a while with my new one, but sigh, it happened the other day.
I ordered this machine a few months back. When I opened it up, the metal part you attach the handle to was all rusty. I emailed Spellbinders and they were great- sent me out a replacement machine immediately. However, upon opening this- exact same problem with rust!! They are now sending me out a SECOND replacement. I can't quite believe it. I'm in the UK and wondered if it's an issue with the warehouse they are using to store machines. Has anyone else experienced this?
I have my eye on the Gina k intercut do I need it No but I want it 😊
I just purchased the new XL platinum machine. So far I love it.
So glad to hear it!

I agree. They make high quality products for sure.

I appreciate that you purchased this yourself. Thank you for the review. I’ve been thinking about this machine.
I just had to have it and see if it was improved!
I got the new Platinum 6 for Christmas. I really like it. I’ve never owned one before. Mostly I got it for 3D embossing folders.

The larger machine to cut them all at once is a great idea! I am a little short on space lol so I stuck with the smaller one!

Happy New Year to you too! Thank you so much!
A small, good cutting machine, like 3 inch cutting.

LOL sounds like you are all set for now! But if you're ever in the market I highly recommend it!
My Cuttlebug is still going strong after 20 years.
WOW that's amazing!
Hi Rebecca. Thanks for the review. I was curious what the difference in the new and old platforms were and now I know🙂
Thanks for watching! I was curious too! LOL! Just had to buy it and find out. lol

Just sticking with my tried and true I guess. And Gina's was out of stock very fast.

I had the same thing happen to my old one. I will be sure to let you know!
It has always folded up and down. At least my machine has.
Yes. My old one stopped folding up. :\
Can you use the new plates with the original machine? I can’t justify a new one as mine is not overused.
I think you can. Pretty sure spellbinders has info on that on their website under universal plate system

I forgot about the "finding the screw" part. It does tend to fly across the room. @@briannamorton5524

Would have loved to know size,as in opening size, plate sizes width & length of plates, to me any new machine cuts well. 🤷♀️
It is the same as the original Platinum 6 except that the handle turns easier.
