Yeah. If the people who rule over the projects a.k.a direct them are fine with spinoffs and do an okay job, this might really be a solid strategy for them and us.
@@LZ02-OVERTURE Well pardon me for thinking the cash-grab, lazy-looking glorified DLC full of reused assets looks like something that would appeal to the corpos, you guys need to chill out with the fanboyism.
The PCGamer video said that sometimes bosses will "invade" you during the day loot session. I think the example used was Margit. If thats the case, Pursuer would be a perfect candidate for that. From the trailer i knew Ds2 was in because they show a spider that has the same animations as the DS2 spiders. They said it's not gonna be a live service game (thank god) so i hope they make it as content rich as possible in terms of bosses/areas/modifiers and then maybe if the game sells we might get an expansion. From what was said it probably wont be full price and it makes sense since its a more of a new take on Elden Ring so there's a lot of new stuff but also a lot of reused stuff. In that way, if time comes to make some sort of expansion with more bosses, etc it shouldn't require too many resources (in comparison to a full fledged new game) to be financially viable (same ofc for the base game)
Might actually be insane if Pursuer were an ally in some way in the narrative. He was the first "where we droppin boys" considering he would also drop in from a bird.
@@GoldScale57 I was also thinking about the possibility of having bosses as friendly NPCs. This night lord seems to have dragged these enemies by force into this reality, perhaps to fight for him.
Smash Bros is technically fanservice slop, but you don't see people calling it that due to the amount of care put into it. This game's director was involved with designing combat for Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, and Elden Ring and wanted to add the older bosses for gameplay purposes. This doesn't even come close to looking like a corporate cashgrab and moreso a dev's love for the games they've worked on coming full circle afyer getting the green light from the Big M himself. I am so excited to go through FromSoft's Greatest Hits and see who they brought back for us to fight.
Now if only we can get Sony to release it's deathgrips so we can have some Bloodborne and Demon souls enemies. Obviously all reused enemies are likely different to compensate for the new movement options for the players and the co-op stuff. But hey a man can dream of an Everybody is here situation.
It feel like they seen the randomizer and seamless coop and wanted to improve on it It fix the coop obviously but the problem of challenge run is often the prep time and that would fix it Also it feel like they add fun with the idea and making a less serious project, probably used to on-board some news team member
I was up until 3:30AM watching trailer reaction videos. After so many Game Awards where the community watched and waited for any FS news and got nothing, to have this drop and be a surprise is such a gift. I kept crying over how excited people were and the brilliant way the trailer slowly reveals itself and then overwhelms you with one crazy mash-up after another. Every video I watched, people were yelling, "WHAT IS GOING ON? WHAT IS HAPPENING??" Then the frickin Nameless King shows up and everyone screams. I don't even care that much if the game is good; I just love that Fromsoft is taking the shot. They often sacrifice gameplay for the sake of lore, so seeing them blow up lore for the sake of gameplay is exciting!
I never watched the awards ever. I randomly woke up at 3 and after a piss I tought I was having the weirdest dream ever when I found that in my feed. I was alienated too much by it however
Honestly, I do understand the dissapointment some are feeling just due to how it is a departure from the souls formula while also resusing assets, but i feel like for those reasons im actually quite exited. I think it shows that fromsoft is definitetly willing to experiment with novel concepts, and building on top of a well established base of assets is the perfect way to do that in my opinion. For whats looking to be a 40 dollar combat focused experience, i think this could be good fun if they handle this correctly.
I love the ds3 FK but I also took the char for a Melina reskin till now. I don't like rewatching trailers or pondering over them to much anymore. I'm okay with a hybrid approach tho. Melina is amicable enough imo.
21:26 If this was a normal From Software single player game, I would very much give a shit! Coherent lore and atmosphere are important to me. But in this context I think it's okay. The director pretty much confirmed that none of this is canon and they just decided to reuse assets so they could focus all their attention on the gameplay. I just hope they didn't copy the netcode from Elden Ring. That mess urgently needs an overhaul.
@Sigh_chedelic the best way they could do this is that each class is a character that is from or represents an older game but in generic Elden Ring outfits, and as you progress the new outfits progressively reveal who the character really is, the final outfit from beating the final boss giving you the full outfit.
Your yap session helped me feel much better about Nightreign. I'm still a little conflicted about it but I'm kinda hyped for it now. Love your content.
Yeah, same. It's just alienating. And without knowing why the decisions were made internally, I was quick to rant about riding the mainstream popularity wave for some money.
Very excited about this, I love that they're experimenting and not just iterating on the same gameplay. Only concerned about the small amount of player classes, I hope that the equipment and upgrades can bring enough replayability and customization.
14:25 this area reminds me of Nokron and Nokstella, but they aren't underground... this game is probably not canon at all but maybe it's happening before the base Elden Ring? btw, if i'm not mistaken, the director is not Miyazaki, it's Junya Ishizaki, he worked at other souls and bb, read it in an IGN interview
My first thought was the Nameless Eternal City, still above ground within Leyndell. But the director said in the IGN interview that the whole game takes place in a version of Limgrave where the entrances to different dungeons will appear.
@@TriforceWisdom64 Yeah, I wish we got more than Limgrave, but hey, they said the DLC would be the size of "Limgrave", but it wasn't. And that rot swamp thing, the large desert with that wolf fight, and that white gate/door (5:42) don't seem to be on Limgrave. maybe Limgrave+Caelid? Weeping Peninsula? anyway, it's hard to guess with what we have now, we just got to wait
@zonk834 I can see where you're coming from, but I used the Stake Driver too much to say with a good amount of confidence that that is the same animation. And the weapon in the trailer also has a stake that extends.
I feel you, the stance when he uses that weapon reminds me of stake driver. And it's touching to see that From devs actually look into what community is doing.
I'm so hyped for this game. I think it's just an excuse for a boss rush mode. And how you mentioned Cut content. I really hope O&S and Artorias make it in.
Although we all want another open world Elden ring 2 deeper dive into the lore. We just had the DLC and now probably pretty soon we're going to get this next game maybe by June or July so we are eating good I'm happy to get my hands on anything firm soft that's in the fantasy area
@are3287 I've heard some people say that but I think you're in the minority That's why so many people bought it maybe not the veterans but the new people that came into the souls games bought this because it was an open world
Ive always dreamed of something like the chalice dungeons returning they were my favorite thing ever, a roguelike-esque experience with more focused polished combat tailor made to specific classes that offer unique playstyles. It was always just a dream so never in my life did i think we would actually get EXACTLY that, WITH A COOP FOCUS AND RETURNING BOSSES FROM OLDER TITLES?!?!?!? Dawg I have never been happier this is genuinely more exciting to me than a new original ip purely because of the fact roguelikes are my favorite genre.
From have found a way test out and iterate new ideas faster than the usual major release cycle. They want to experiment with seamless coop multiplayer so they build a smaller game around it and see how it goes. Win win for everyone!
I like what they did with the story. It's not just some random disconnected thing, it's a non-cannon alternate timeline. Apparently the events leading up to the shattering are identical between this game, and Elden Ring. So they share a lot of the same DNA and history. But in this timeline, the shattering clearly caused some real wacky stuff to happen.
We saw a lot of re-used assets even in Elden Ring, and this is going to be a playground of it. I'm hoping this means that the next big game will be moreso from scratch. This could be the team's way of shipping all their favorite leftovers before baking something fresh.
there’s a cut bloodborne boss being used, and I suspect the first location shown is a beta version of stormveil castle from the first leaks of Elden Ring. The whole “Nightreign” concept is from the cut Dark Souls 3 mechanic where the player would use the ritual sword and start a “battle royale” type of thing, which would change the time of day in-game to night
I would love to play the old bosses with normal elden ring combat. This will be fun but I would so love to have old bosses redone with normal combat. That would make me so happy
i swear if the expand this, imagine dlc maps from merging landscapes , one map per individuality , each being from DS1-DS2-DS3-Sekiro-Kings field etc..
Demon's souls bosses? Flamelurker, dragon god, Garl Vinland? Makes sense to have them. Garl Vinland teaming up with Astraea and Velstadt would be insane. Velstadt and Raime? Equally workable.
I have a feeling when they said it would take place in the Limgrave area, they mean that overall biome as a backdrop for the majority of the outside play area. My hope is they include all the biomes and throw in some sort of procedural map randomization generator, but 1) I don't think we're there yet, and 2) this came out WAY too fast. If they do have map randomization, they'd have to limit it to one biome to have it work the best. I think most of the work went into switching from a fully open world to the 3-night rouge-like and all it's associated changes, as well as bringing in/upgrading all the old bosses to fight, as at it's heart, it's going to be a boss battler. And if they do bring a smorgasbord of all the previous games, that'll overshadow most of its initial shortcomings.
in regards to radahns arena looking different. Since nightreign seems to take place closer to the shattering in a seperate universe, my guess is that Limgrave and caelid are the main area of paly, and caelid is "un rotted".
Can't wait for this and what it will do for the modding community, more Sekiro adjacent combat the better. I also can't wait to see whatever it is Miyazaki is working on.
Prediction: if the initial release is well-recieved, we're gonna get two or three DLC expansions over time, which will introduce new (old) characters/bosses and maybe even arenas/maps from previous games. I doubt that the Bed of Chaos will act as its own boss fight... But I can imagine it acting as a *sick* arena, in collaboration with another tree-themed boss. Can you imagine a souped-up Erdtree Avatar (or perhaps an Izalith Avatar? 🧐) acting in concert with the Bed of Chaos? Phase 1 would be the more traditional Asylum Demon-esque fight, with a few twists. (its golden buttslam attack will break away a few floor pieces each time it happens, in a way that makes the arena more tricky, but not as ridiculous as in DS1). This also gives players the incentive to finish off phase 1 as quickly as possible, to keep the arena from having too many death pits in Phase 2. ...but then in phase 2, it merges with the Bed of Chaos and starts attacking with its giant tree branch arms. Since we can free jump now, it'll be more feasible to dodge a wide swipe with a well-timed jump, making the fight quite a bit more reasonable than it used to be. Who knows, maybe it'll have a super attack that involves detaching its branches, and letting them morph into Ulcerated Tree Spirits briefly, to thrash around the arena as you try for a desperate sprint to leap the gap and make it to the Bed's heart. Instead of finding a Chaos Bug, you find that the Bed's heart (and the walls of the chamber around it) are being completely strangled and subsumed by deathroot. This game has the potential to be the stuff of both dreams, _and_ nightmares.
I'm actually really hyped for this, If they pull it off I feel like this will be tons of fun. My main concern is its replayability, I hope there's good incentives for multiple runs. I reccomend you check out the Famitsu interview, has good info the western sites didn't cover.
I really hope FromSoftware is aware of the "Return to..." events for the Souls series. If they're really planning a "greatest hits" remix of all the best bosses, then the best time to release Nightreign is in early August once the community is finished replaying the Souls series. Not only will newbies and veterans get to experience the old bosses, but we'll also see how FromSoft has upgraded their fights.
Really glad this is coming out. I always thought fromsoftware needed to do much more for Elden ring's open world mechanics than just repeating the old souls formula in a bigger scale. I Hope this now brings that good and diverse non repetitive open world flavor to the game!
Honestly, I'm down for this as long as there is no forced PvP/online element. As a souls veteran, I always preferred to play these games offline to avoid the toxic invasions, the messaging system, bloodstains, ect but that's just me. If I could wrangle some friends to play this, I don't want to have to deal with any of that but if not, I'll be dropping in solo. In any case, I'm very excited to see what they do with this idea. Also, great vid. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts about this and thank you for not being a instant hater like the rest of the internet.
They suggest a 3 player coop, but solo is possible. Ofc bosses will be scaled down in solo play, but their movesets will remain the same. Also even in coop, there will be no PvP.
I love action roguelites done well and this one potentially could be the best action roguelike souls like gamelike of all time. Should be good fun no matter what happens.
I like this yap session. As information trickled out I stumbled between excited and concerned, but at this point I'm mostly excited. There's a great foundation here for an Elden Ring Roguelike(lite?) and with it not being sold at full MSRP and confirming no battle pass and MTX, I'm looking forward to it!
I woke up at 2:99, looked at my feed after taking a piss and thought I was tripping when I saw the PS upload.... Though, as much as I am a fan, it didn't keep me up. It was too alienating for that. I'm not on board just yet.
It's also amazing, the brand reputation that FromSoftware has developed over the last decade or so. Every reactor to this trailer has lost their minds when the FromSoftware logo dropped. It carries with it a guarantee of quality. No other studio carries a reputation like FromSoftware. Even Bandai Namco gets a hype reaction purely because of it's association as FromSoftware's main publisher. Ever since Demon's Souls, FromSoftware has exclusively released masterpieces. Demon's Souls, Dark Souls+DLC, Dark Souls 2+DLCx3, Bloodborne+DLC, Dark Soul 3+DLCx2, Sekiro, Elden Ring+DLC, Armored Core VI. They just keep winning. More than a decade of excellence, and they just keep going. (For the record, I copypasta'd my own comment, as I don't want to write it all out 3 more times lol.)
i really hope there will be more options for interaction between players than it was in other souls games. imagine spells like warmth or soothing sunlight ACTUALLY being USEFUL now. i always really loved these spells and it was so sad to see that there's barely any use for them. (me and my friends even tried to "roleplay" ds3 as "holy trinity" of dd, tank and support, as a support i used war banner and sunlight sword (it was very underwhelming)). i really do hope this part of coop will be explored. and given the "rogues" ability to double the damage of mates i have hopes for this. i would love to see more buffing options. just imagine...
If it’s only dark souls bosses returning that basically confirms to me that dark souls is a prequel to elden ring and elden ring is the painted world. They don’t have to tell us but it’s pretty obvious that this is the case. I think fromsoft is just scared if they say it people will get mad in the lore community.
Don't give me hope about Godwyn, I can't take the disappointment of not fighting him. On a separate note, this is obviously smaller, holding us off until the next big game, but it's also definitely testing things. Imagine another full on Soulsborne with full on coop, and with a randomness. Maybe the first playthrough would be standardized but each new game plus would be completely random to feel different other then just higher difficulty, maybe every playthrough random but with some things required for the story guaranteed to show up some place in your playthrough, even if not always the same place.
The fact that this is being cooked in-house and that it's From's idea confirms (to me at least) that it'll be great and there's nothing to worry about. I am pro-experimentation and I've heard murmurs in the community about stagnation since around when ER released. Besides, considering how From operates everything NEW in this game is likely a teaser of what's to come and that's its own kind of exciting.
God damnn. Imagine fighting NK, OnS, Atorias and Gael with the Elden Ring kind of movements. And they even remade a more beautiful Fire Keeper. And all the randomizer rouge-like things they inspired from nexus mods and the indie games? Idk about you but ey, whoever doesn't like this, then just don't play, ok? This is what I want, I'm ready for this.
i am far more interested in the things that can be backported to Elden Ring than the game itself based on the different things i've heard about the game. I've heard the map is randomly generated, which I don't know is the case, but if it isn't, it'd be cool to see the map backported as a bit of a modded expansion.

FromSoftware are their own publisher and publush their own games in Japan so there's no Bandai to go through. Different non-Miyazaki games doesnt mean its for corpos. Is Armored Core 6 for corpos for you?
Source: New interview with Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki.
Yeah. If the people who rule over the projects a.k.a direct them are fine with spinoffs and do an okay job, this might really be a solid strategy for them and us.
@@LZ02-OVERTURE chill. It may not be black nor white, but the corps should be able to appreciate this spinoff nonetheless
How do you feed your family if you're a game developer? Besides the real question is, if its good?
5:45 this door reminds me of the door from the ds2 ending SOO MUCH
it looks uncannily similar to the concept art for Throne of Want
If it’s a random map every run and different bosses each time, the longevity of this game is going to be insane.
Imagine you open the door into the freaking blight town map and then it sucks up all your fos 😂
"They looked at the modding community"
There's gonna be some wild changes to our characters then, specially the female ones...
It feel like they seen the randomizer and seamless coop and wanted to improve on it
It fix the coop obviously but the problem of challenge run is often the prep time and that would fix it
Also it feel like they add fun with the idea and making a less serious project, probably used to on-board some news team member
I love “how nameless king”, “wtf”, and “why are you here” are usually the words that are strung together in people’s reactions 😂
The "firekeeper" is definitely inspired by DS3, but it's essentially a recolor of Melina (which you can see particilarly well on the steam page)
I love the ds3 FK but I also took the char for a Melina reskin till now.
I don't like rewatching trailers or pondering over them to much anymore.
I'm okay with a hybrid approach tho. Melina is amicable enough imo.
Also sekiro gameplay elements its crazy plus ballesta like steakdriver its crazy too
A modern interpretation of fume-knight is all i ask for🙏🙏
21:26 If this was a normal From Software single player game, I would very much give a shit!
They supposedly hired on the guy that made the seamless co-op mod, so hopefully some netcode improvements there :-)
@natkarmios That's great to hear!
@@natkarmios I have found no evidence for this to be true, where does it come from?
Dude if the firekeeper can come back, Solaire and Seigward can come back
They could just chill are Roundtable hold
Perhaps playable Solaire? They did say that the playable characters would have their own storylines.
@Sigh_chedelic the best way they could do this is that each class is a character that is from or represents an older game but in generic Elden Ring outfits, and as you progress the new outfits progressively reveal who the character really is, the final outfit from beating the final boss giving you the full outfit.
We the nameless king in storm hill I think, and he is called the king of the storm. His lore could be related to stormveil and the stormhawks.
Only concerned about the small amount of player classes, I hope that the equipment and upgrades can bring enough replayability and customization.
seeing dks2 enemies again like this was interesting lol
Its non canon Miyazaki confirmed it.
Bloodborne is in this too, the Stake Driver weapon, in the same scene as the Centipede Demon. What else they could bring from BB?
I was thinking it reminded me of the flame vent from Sekiro but that works too!
@zonk834 I can see where you're coming from, but I used the Stake Driver too much to say with a good amount of confidence that that is the same animation. And the weapon in the trailer also has a stake that extends.
I heard that one of the characters were going to be more agility based and have different dodges that sounded like bb dodges.
We need trick weapons
I feel you, the stance when he uses that weapon reminds me of stake driver. And it's touching to see that From devs actually look into what community is doing.
I'm so hyped for this game. I think it's just an excuse for a boss rush mode. And how you mentioned Cut content. I really hope O&S and Artorias make it in.
Although we all want another open world Elden ring 2 deeper dive into the lore. We just had the DLC and now probably pretty soon we're going to get this next game maybe by June or July so we are eating good I'm happy to get my hands on anything firm soft that's in the fantasy area
Honestly I dont want another open world elden ring 2
@are3287 I've heard some people say that but I think you're in the minority That's why so many people bought it maybe not the veterans but the new people that came into the souls games bought this because it was an open world
What’s up bro love your content !
I think Storm King from Demon's Souls with the flying mechanics might be cool.
This reminds me so much of Metal Gear Survive, and it's scaring me.
I think a small spinoff like this is really cool.
2:49 Our boi casually zooms past that the first enemy reveal is the Dark Souls 2 spider mob!
From have found a way test out and iterate new ideas faster than the usual major release cycle. They want to experiment with seamless coop multiplayer so they build a smaller game around it and see how it goes. Win win for everyone!
Margit be like: "Do not send me your flame of ambition!"
"Fan service slop" tbh can be pretty tasty when done right. Elden Ring is pretty ripe for that kind of slop though as seen by the modding community.
I liked that it reminded me of the "fake-lore" days before the game released, some of those more fantastical elements.
(Witch Hero main btw)
into the soulsverse
We saw a lot of re-used assets even in Elden Ring, and this is going to be a playground of it. I'm hoping this means that the next big game will be moreso from scratch. This could be the team's way of shipping all their favorite leftovers before baking something fresh.
This is deserving a “Baldachin’s Blessing” ⚔️
there’s a cut bloodborne boss being used, and I suspect the first location shown is a beta version of stormveil castle from the first leaks of Elden Ring.
Im praying they will have all the greatest bosses like gael, fume knight, artorias and so on.
A permanent coop souls game is literally all I've ever wanted
i swear if the expand this, imagine dlc maps from merging landscapes , one map per individuality , each being from DS1-DS2-DS3-Sekiro-Kings field etc..
Demon's souls bosses?
Flamelurker, dragon god, Garl Vinland? Makes sense to have them. Garl Vinland teaming up with Astraea and Velstadt would be insane.
Velstadt and Raime? Equally workable.
couldn't stop thinking about the nameless king last night, so fucking surreal to me
I have a feeling when they said it would take place in the Limgrave area, they mean that overall biome as a backdrop for the majority of the outside play area. And if they do bring a smorgasbord of all the previous games, that'll overshadow most of its initial shortcomings.
ill wait another 5 years for dark souls 4. i hope they make a compact game
in regards to radahns arena looking different. Since nightreign seems to take place closer to the shattering in a seperate universe, my guess is that Limgrave and caelid are the main area of paly, and caelid is "un rotted".
I’m super excited for this it’s a refreshing way to experience soul difficulty with friends to just hop on and slay out with the peeps
Pinwheel 2!
This guy has me so pumped for this game.
The DS chest is in the DLC. Where the stone sword monument next to the Furnace Golems
Imagine a run where you get the final boss of each game? Soul of cinder for ds. Moon presence for bloodborne. Isshin for sekiro 🤯🤯🤯
It's just Garden of Eyes, but corporate.
I am buzzing at the thought of a remastered Kalameet
Can't wait for this and what it will do for the modding community, more Sekiro adjacent combat the better. I also can't wait to see whatever it is Miyazaki is working on.
Time is convoluted in Lordran.
The more I hear about the game, the more I really like it.
NightLord? . . . .40k crossover? huge if true!! 😉
im so hype for this
Prediction: if the initial release is well-recieved, we're gonna get two or three DLC expansions over time, which will introduce new (old) characters/bosses and maybe even arenas/maps from previous games.
All I want for Christmas is Dark Souls 1 in Elden Ring.
The way he's saying almost no bosses are off limits and they are coming in, that would be incredible
Imagine if the final boss is the protagonist from DS1 that took the Dark Lord path.
They've confirmed there is both a single-player mode and no PvP, it is primarily a 3-player co-op title.
They suggest a 3 player coop, but solo is possible. Ofc bosses will be scaled down in solo play, but their movesets will remain the same.
Also even in coop, there will be no PvP.
The messaging system and bloodstain are the best thing from online mode
@KABLAMMATS sadly they cannot be in this game due to the environments being randomized.
@@KABLAMMATS I understand why people like it but it ruins the vibe of being completely alone and isolated for be. I'm just weird like that.
I love action roguelites done well and this one potentially could be the best action roguelike souls like gamelike of all time.
Should be good fun no matter what happens.
Would be insane if we get ol’ Ja-Yearl
If they put a John Wick augmented human in the game I’m gonna COAM
DS3 Firekeeper is the Gloam Eyed Queen... maybe? :)
I am extremely excited. I LOVE when Fromsoft tries new ideas. LET THEM COOK!!
Bro Imagine A flexile sentry or freja that could attack 2 players at once
I got so hyped when I seen nameless king so cool I recently bought ds3 nameless was my favorite fight
I can't wait to fight Sekrio himself
He deflects all your moves then uses them against you
imagine sony completes the kadokawa acquisition and then we get the bloodborne goodness in this game
If it’s only dark souls bosses returning that basically confirms to me that dark souls is a prequel to elden ring and elden ring is the painted world. They don’t have to tell us but it’s pretty obvious that this is the case. I think fromsoft is just scared if they say it people will get mad in the lore community.
Im not a battle royale fan in general but I want an Elden Ring one so bad. Hope there are pvp options in this new title.
Hear me out: Dragonslayer Ornstein & Corrupted Monk duo
My guess is they’re taking 1 boss from each previous game
