“The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love, and in order to occupy and distract himself without love he gives way to passions and coarse pleasures, and sinks to bestiality in his vices, all from continual lying to other men and to himself.” -Dostoevsky
Welcome to instagram , tinder and online dating and social media...nearly everyone lying to themselves and others. Creates a cognitive dissonance. It's nearly taken over reality / society. I can see it ( and feel it ) getting worse every year
I used to read lots of self help books during my childhood which made me look at the life in a certain way, though i could not live that way. This become a source of conflict in my head, blaming myself for not living a life the way i think. JP made me realize that those thoughts were not mine, but taken from those books and I was not supposed to live my life according to the thoughts of those writers. This lecture was more than that. It has cleared so many erratic thoughts of mine which were the source of constant conflict in my head and pain for heart. Thankyou JP

Well just as those books share ideas, so does Jordan Peterson in his lectures. You incorporating book ideas in to your life or not, is the same as you do with Jordans lectures. Just be wary of the logical fallacy you make in your statements. Nonetheless I like Jordans ideas about life, which is essentially the knowledge of man kind up until now, summarized neatly. Maybe one day when I am ready to liberate my self completely, i'll re-listen to Krishnamurti talks :D.
I love his bow at the end; it's not him taking a bow congratulating himself on having just delivered a lecture, but rather a bow in the service of honoring the students' well-being as they go forth into the world.

So I'm always looking for these higher resolution lectures, because JBP has so much more to offer. What an inspiration he is.

Professor Peterson, I’m a Special Education Teacher. Many years ago, I applied late to teach summer school. The only opening was to teach Severely Impaired High School Students. I needed the money, but was revolted at the prospect of changing diapers on 17 year olds. Within 2 days of my summer school job, my life’s meaning became as clear as Chrystal. To Serve Others. My students only wanted to love the world and everyone in it. I was humbled in knowing I was a fortunate man to serve Human Beings who had never sinned in their lives. My life was full of Joy as they were my teachers. When I witnessed a mute Down’s Syndrome student insist on helping feed a blind quadriplegic girl before he would touch his lunch...Yes, I experienced Heaven on Earth and it completely changed me.
This video literally changed my whole perspective on life. I know people say stuff like that very flippantly but it really really did. Probably the most important video I have ever watched. Thank you Dr. Peterson.

What a wonderful lecture from the past. I always wonder if those students really appreciate those moments in class with Dr. Peterson. I even envy them sometimes. But I’m grateful to be able to watch and learn them all here, all thanks to Dr. Peterson for making these lectures available online. Can’t wait to start the next one!!
As a Marriage and Family Therapy student, it has been more than a real pleasure to watch and learn from Dr. Peterson. He has done what he teaches (except for always keep his room clean ha!), and that includes learning to increase your courage to overcome fear and anxiety. He stated 'Fear is a liar' and that taught me that fear will cost you everything but love is priceless. His genuineness to love and help others become their greatest potential while striving towards self-actualization is something I can only dream to not only achieve to some degree myself, but help others along this journey and be consistent about it. To be the best possible parent to my son and to take on life's greatest responsibilities. To serve the LORD and at the behest of my brothers and sisters. I hope someday I may be afforded the opportunity to meet you Dr. Peterson. God bless and thank you for the difference you've made in this world of madness.
Sir, what a privileges to be in your class, man those people was really lucky, the're must've been really wise, by the end of the college, this is only one of his class and it was so many many good thoughts delivered so clear only in one hour ( sorry my lack of better words, can describe it), then imagine attend to every of his class for all of your college time, that would be heaven of mind and soul.
I love coming to the comments at Jordan Peterson Lectures! YOu find interesting people actually giving their thoughts and not saying dumb things like other channels
I like that Peterson mentions Solszenicyn so regularly. When I was at the high school, we were taught about his Archipelago Gulag and then only about his "bad" political ideas after the fall of Soviet union
Jordan, thank you for all the cool things you talk about. I'm so grateful that you have the gift of gab. The things you talked about in this video are especially meaningful to me on this day, 7 years after you spoke them. You've mentioned in a few videos how overwhelming it can be to receive so many positive comments from people in the public who you have never met. I don't just think, but know that I would feel the same if I were in your shoes. Keeping that in mind, thank you for tolerating what might be considered positive gushing from me. Sometimes we encounter people who have committed themselves to ideals we admire and we desire to begin to walk in lockstep with them. I see this same notion exemplified in the Christian tradition of communion... God's invitation to humanity to merge with Him in purpose and being. Thank you also for sharing with the public that your life includes unbearable difficulty and pain. We are all in this together, being human and all that means.
“It doesn’t matter what you do because nothing matters, it’s relative” is a belief system created to allow yourself a secondary gain. You believe it because it’s in the best interest of the worst aspects of you to believe it” WOW, WOW, WOW!
I am so appreciative that these lectures exist. I am in school studying counseling and these theories, but my graduate program isn’t very inspiring. these talks light me up. My deepest gratitude. 🙏
So often lately I’ve tried to express what I thought was a strongly held opinion, but when trying to find the correct words (which I’ve learned to do by checking with my body as I think things through) I find that I actually possess so little personal knowledge of a thing, that I don’t actually have an opinion of my it at all. That’s been a little confounding. This tells me why. And I’m so grateful. I can’t take in his lectures fast enough but i can’t take this much truth in quickly either. It has to be digested and even mulled over a bit. What a gift in our cultural desert of meritorious words and disjointed information tossed around like an unending mountain range of landfill; laughingly known as the information age. I wish I could tie people to a chair and make them listen to this - force them like a duck to take it in and learn what critical thinking actually sounds like. So many of us have to be taught to think again, if we ever knew how in the first place.
Dr Peterson is describing at the end of this lecture what madness we are living in today, in 2020. Thank goodness he talked to so many before we hit this point because hopefully we can turn it around, collectively...
Professor, this is one of the lectures I have listened to many times. Each additional viewing helps to bring me closer to a sense of self. Very interesting and insightful. Thank you!
This is his best lecture. Essential viewing. I’m so glad of the interview with Cathy Newman and the gender pay gap. Actually I could see reason in both points of view. But what It did do is bring his lectures to the world’s attention. This lecture is brilliant. 👍👍
In a lecture full of insight, I was particularly impressed by the conclusions drawn by Frankl etc as summarised from 01:09:18. Had to listen to that bit a few times!
I just had a moment of synchronicity while watching this video. This is a Jungian term that Prof. Jordan Peterson sometimes refers to. At 23:40 when he's talking about cleaning up your own existential space as a good way to help the world (rather than telling other people what to do), I noticed that the cafe I'm sitting in was playing "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson... :o
Thank you so much for this! :) Man in the Mirror is my favourite song from the King! Just had a good listen. I was very uplifted by the experience - thank you.
Synchronicity asserts that seemingly unconnected events are in fact connected by an unknown cause. Our mind connects two events even though it's a logical impossibility that they could be connected. Coincidence implies that there is no connection because there is no causal chain linking them.
Viktor Frankl growth from content, thought and rationality. Speech and thought; acting on content, and feelings needs rationality. Rationalizing, ' People don't have ideas, ideas have people Carl Jung. ' Existentialism pursuing Truth, thank you Dr Jordan Peterson and Viktor Frankl.
his pointing out and dwelling upon on the pitfalls of identifying with the intellect are priceless. A process I have lived through my youth and grew out of gradually. Intellect still possesses me, but only in episodes. Wanting to live a meaningful and moral life was desire drawn from my social background..grateful for it.... and that made me keep searching for an experience beyond the buzz of the mind...............
JP is a genius of the highest order with an incredible understanding in this field. He has the ability to passionately share these concepts clearly. It’s amazing and inspiring.
Damn Jordan! I’ve only watched 18:56 so far of this lecture, and it is invaluable. It is also incredibly synchronistic to current developments in my life. What a treasure!
Dr. Peterson don't get me wrong I really like the new lecture series, but the hair in the Harvard lectures was way better. Bring back the Canadian Passport!!
“Stop bulking yourself” WOW I’ve never thought about that and how we entertain thoughts that hurts us more than the actual reality of the situation we are in.
Even from a young age upon first learning about what happened in nazi Germany there was always something that didn't make sense to me in regards to how a government could so easily and thoroughly turn its society totalitarian. That was what interested me to learn more about it. But no one ever said what JP is saying about how it happens both from the top and the bottom with a certain sick cooperation from each individual. It now makes perfect sense that this is of course the only way it can happen. And of course this also makes all the more terrifying.
I love the hand gestures that you use. :) They make it easier for me to come from a snip-it of another video on youtube and locate where that video left off in this one. Also helps create a visual story for your ideas and puts the thoughts into movement for if I try to recall the talk later.
The truth that you can not live is not true. This lecture is a tour de force. ♦️ Truth exists only as the individual himself produces it in action. 🌟 Soren Kierkegaard
I thought I was so good - I was shocked, when in later years as I learned I had purged all light from my life thinking it was weakness. My wife in those day had become a Christian...and with her eyes now open she realized the vileness that had become my attitude and speech. When she could bare no longer the growing realization that I hated everything she loved, she prayed and asked God to show her if He was going to save me. That night in a dream, God showed her my soul laying on the street dead - and there was no light in me at all...only darkness! Then God said, "With men it's impossible, but with Me all things are possible!"
I'm using this video as asmr tonight so that I can fall asleep. Not because it's boring. I can listen to his lectures all day but it's also good asmr. 🐸

Love these lectures. I was looking for a more focal lecture on Victor Frankle. But still a good lecture Victor Frankle also said everything has meaning and that there is room for a “super meaning” or God.

Thank you professor for making your lectures available on this platform. I have never had a chance to study anything but I was always seeking for answers for existential questions. Now I can understand better my own life choices.
I’ve been subscribed since he had just a few thousand subscribers and coming back to these old videos and looking at the views they have is crazy. Thank you for utilizing all this great content for good everyone ❤️
Sir, what a privileges to be in your class, man those people was really lucky, the're must've been really wise, by the end of the college, this is only one of his class and it was so many many good thoughts delivered so clear only in one hour ( sorry my lack of better words, can describe it), then imagine attend to every of his class for all of your college time, that would be heaven of mind and soul.
one of the best lectures of Dr Peterson I have seen.
thank you
Pp
I love coming to the comments at Jordan Peterson Lectures! YOu find interesting people actually giving their thoughts and not saying dumb things like other channels
So ture its refreshing.
Dr. Peterson makes more fundamental sense of the world in one hour in this video than most people will realize in a lifetime
Malevolence and deceit make the tragic parts of existence much worse, thanks JP you are a profound thinker.
Every student should read Prof. Viktor Frankl’s book!
This man has been such a blessing, helpful beyond belief!
'the reason you are feeling so terrible could you are inhabiting a pathological perspective' - very good 1 line summary. Enter the 4 noble truths
Amazing lecture, vehemently and passionately articulated thoughts, I'm really amazed!
" if we don't interact with the world, we cease to exist "....valuable words for this internet / smartphone generation
Thank you Dr Peterson
Mr Jordan Peterson's teaching talk is not for everyone
Thank You.
A wise young girl when asked her opinion once said,- ''How can I know what I think till I see what I say?'' Ideas have people.
This guy is just the type of man we need in these tough times.
In a lecture full of insight, I was particularly impressed by the conclusions drawn by Frankl etc as summarised from 01:09:18. Had to listen to that bit a few times!
my god the last 10 mins of this video is so precious
Thank you for your contribution to humanity Mr. Peterson.
GlobalMates
Thank you so much for this! :) Man in the Mirror is my favourite song from the King! Just had a good listen.
I was very uplifted by the experience - thank you.
Cast the log before the mote.
If someone could kindly and cleanly separate Jungian 'sychronisity' vs coincidence as could be interpreted in OP's comment
Synchronicity asserts that seemingly unconnected events are in fact connected by an unknown cause. Our mind connects two events even though it's a logical impossibility that they could be connected. Coincidence implies that there is no connection because there is no causal chain linking them.
Love and appreciate your Dr. Peterson
Live long and prosper
This Pathology of Normalcy as Erich Fromm so aptly put it, is so well thought out by Dr. Peterson, it gives me chills. Thank you for your insight!
Love this lecture...no words to describe how therapeutic
Thanks Doctor Peterson, for showing me a best way to understand Nietzsche.
So good. 230am and I can't stop watching.
I really enjoyed this lecture ! It confirmed a lot of my perceptions.
When you said touch the feeling!!! I felt that.. thanks Dr peterson for this amazing lecture
I'm just now seeing this I also own 2 of your books.
I’ve watched this lecture so many times. It’s my safety lecture❤
Exceptional. Worth to listen on and on. Thanks a lot 🙏🏻
This is great. I'm glad that I took the time to see this lecture.
Such a beautiful lecture. Priceless and timeless!✨
When I first listened to this years ago it blew me away.
Listening to his lectures is the only time I ever wish I had gone to college
JP is a genius of the highest order with an incredible understanding in this field. He has the ability to passionately share these concepts clearly. It’s amazing and inspiring.
A man I respect talking about another great man, This is good stuff.
Damn Jordan! I’ve only watched 18:56 so far of this lecture, and it is invaluable. It is also incredibly synchronistic to current developments in my life. What a treasure!
Profound but relatable, very well formulated ideas - you can tell they come from years of experience and research and deep thought. Phenomenal stuff!
Dr. Peterson don't get me wrong I really like the new lecture series, but the hair in the Harvard lectures was way better. Bring back the Canadian Passport!!
Both a facinating and powerful l3cture puts a lot out there for thought
I hope all people that listen to you will one day get to see this as well.. well done. You can really create the words for my thoughts
“Stop bulking yourself” WOW I’ve never thought about that and how we entertain thoughts that hurts us more than the actual reality of the situation we are in.
Bulling* damn auto correct 🙄
@@tasneemrabin1303 bullying? 🤔
Read Hanna Arendt. She explored this topic.
Wonderful. He just makes sense. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. ♥️
That was the best of JBP....really got my head round this one....excellent

I love the hand gestures that you use. :) They make it easier for me to come from a snip-it of another video on youtube and locate where that video left off in this one. Also helps create a visual story for your ideas and puts the thoughts into movement for if I try to recall the talk later.
The truth that you can not live is not true.
This lecture is a tour de force.
♦️ Truth exists only as the individual himself produces it in action.

Good luck in life, guys. Never stop striving to be somebody you're proud of.

Geez, this is brilliant. And deep, thought provoking.

Me, out of school for 10 years:
You got it, Buddy:)! 👌 👌
Watching this lecture is such an endearing, beautiful and enlightning experience, i just have to cry from joy.Thank you so much!🐭🐉🌻
Just finished the first part of Mans search for Meaning. The last 15 pages or so were amazing
Kiza D WhiteHorse I listened to it, while driving. Well worth it, will listen again and recommend to anyone.
I think I’ll see if I can find a hard copy for my library
Wow, I just ordered this book, looking forward to it 😃
Me also 😍
I just ordered a copy.
Of the many thousands of books I have read, Victor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning" is definitely in my Top 10. A truly life-changing book.
Jesus, this man just gently assaulted me with words: what you do matters, so you better get your life together. Will do, doc.
Most University educations aren't worth a dime anymore...unless your lucky enough to get a professor like J.P. - then it's priceless
God bless you Jordon.
Love these lectures. I was looking for a more focal lecture on Victor Frankle. But still a good lecture
Victor Frankle also said everything has meaning and that there is room for a “super meaning” or God.
