I love the lyrics in this song. It's nice to hear the different versions of it. I know I can't hit any of those notes, that's why the cello is my voice now. Love it. Beautiful job Stephen.
I heard this song for the first time just after my mother died. My mom had a rough time: illness young, lost my father when I was 12 and my brother was 8. The drugs and alcohol that followed made an impression on me that took a long time to dispel. I remember her being brought home once after being beaten up in a bar; another time after being gang-raped by three foreign sailors in Seattle. One time she left my brother and I sitting at school on a Friday and we didn’t see her again until the following Tuesday. I had to walk 10 miles with my 8 year old brother trying to keep him upbeat and out of the traffic on 1st Avenue. Anyhow, when I heard this song, I felt it was as if my mother was singing to me: explaining she had to bear many burdens at a young age, apologizing with empathy and strength, and showing her love through this song. If that makes sense. I appreciate your version, because I feel like it’s MY apology to her for not being a better son. The male voice lets me feel it and I appreciate you. Thank you. Many blessings!
