Thanks for watching! A lot of the RUclipsrs in this video have been some of my favorite channels for years, so it was super cool to get to meet them. Check out their channel links in the description, and also the links to the classical music that was featured if any of the pieces sounded interesting to you!
Holy Cow! You got David Brown in there! I love that some people switched it up with Mendelssohn and Holst!!! And Tommy Edison!! But no mentions of Debussy or Strauss? No Haydn? No Arvo Part? Buxtehude? NO TCHAIKOVSKY? We need to educate more people about the Baroque/Classical/Romantic period in music! So much beauty is out there. Although if you asked me I probably would have said Erik Satie (though he is technically avant-garde) because I love his stuff. Glad to hear you're coming back!
Yeah, I didn't end up with a huge amount of answers for the video so the scope was limited. In retrospect if I were to redo it, I would have asked, "Can you name some classical composers you enjoy?" as a lot more names would have been listed and the question wouldn't have had the pressure of picking just one. I liked the type of answer that Tommy gave.
By the way it’s Arvo Pärt. And i really like his music besides I kinda have to he’s an Estonian person who is recognized worldwide and it’s kinda a big deal for us that people know we actually exist
A pure youtuber you are... It is so amazing to see how you genuinely feel contented and almost blessed You brought me so back to the times where members found producing quality content more important than becoming "trendy".
Thank you soooo much for showing us the musically 'odd' and fascinating ways music can be associated with. I just subscribed and will be an avid fan or your videos as long as you put them out. Thanks you sooo so much. **my favorite composer is Claude DeBussy; 'Clair De Lune', 'Girl With The Flaxen Hair' and all his others. Those compositions touch my heart deeper than anything music has. My mom was a Hungarian immigrant and from the bowels of poverty and social alienation she 'found' him. I guess my mom and i have similar hearts. She was born 4 yrs before his death in 1918 and died 63 yrs later while listening to Clair De Lune...
The real reason us piano students hated bach is because he is so God damn hard and the months you spend working on a piece will never get you laid quite like a liszt etude will even though the bach is far more difficult
Loved your description of Bach and harpsichord, as well as clips and descriptions of lots of different styles. Fun to see MysteryGuitarMan -- that brought back memories!!!
Ahhh! A blast from the past. So funny that you made a video about this, given that we met at VidCon. Are you going to the 2018 event? I plan to, and I hope to see you there! :)
I just watched this video again! I love how it is edited and all the work you put into it. I also enjoyed and agree with your comments at the end. I believe this could be your best year ever! I am glad to see elsewhere that you recently started a Patreon account. I will be a proud supporter.
I've always wanted someone to ask me this question, and I think I'd go with Dvorak. I got to do an hour long presentation on him and his music when I was in school and I just found his history and musical style so interesting and beautiful to me and I grew really attached to his music. I love your videos and I can't wait to see what you have coming out for the rest of the year! :)
You're right, just now noticed that you hit 50K.... Anyway, I just now got back from auditioning for a very tough Honor band, All State, to find that you uploaded a video about Classical Music.... I love classical music, just a bit disappointing Chopin, or Franz Liszt wasn't mentioned much, hehe. I found it very interesting to see what other youtubers thought about Classical composers. I really valued what TayZonday had to say! Great video, and thanks for all of the links in the description!
Thanks! And yeah I remember, it was that contest that MysteryGuitarMan held all those years ago where we first found each other's channels. (And funnily enough, after all this time, I finally ended up getting to collab with him in a small way with this video.)
It’s commonly claimed that the harpsichord was the primary instrument in Bach’s mind for his music, and that it affected his compositional style because it lack changes in dynamics. But this is not true. For starters, most his music is not written for keyboard. It was instrumental and/or vocal. Also, he wrote a ton of organ music, which made use of different registers and thus had different dynamic ranges for the parts. But what we think of now as his “piano” music today wasn’t written particularly for the harpsichord, but was just written for any keyboard instrument, of which there were several at the time. The most common keyboard instrument of the time was the clavichord, which did have dynamic range unlike the harpsichord, and it’s likely that he did have this instrument in mind when writing most of his keyboard music. In Bach’s first biography, it was claimed that the clavichord was Bach’s favorite keyboard instrument. And after his death, his son CPE Bach wrote a treatise on keyboard playing, at a time when the piano had gained prominence, and he placed the clavichord above the harpsichord in worth, stating the harpsichord was good for accompaniment (along with the piano), because it was a louder instrument. And he said the clavichord was a more demanding instrument and better for instruction (though it was extremely quiet and not suitable for accompaniment).
I got hooked on your channel while looking for Taylor Swift piano covers. You covered her music the best. So I hope you don't close the door on my Tay-Tay. OK?
Wow, don't know how I missed Milenkovic when I was looking around RUclips. Just listened and it is indeed better! Changed the link in the description to be his recording :)
If you stick to the academic definition, Mozart and Hayden are really the only options, so I’d probably go with Mozart. As for the colloquial definition (which we should note is largely ignorant of post 19th century composers) it’s a tough choice between Messiaen who I love for his unabashed religiosity and naturalism; and Schnittke who I love for his moody, snarky sarcasm and his really inventive and unrestrained style.

Bonus: You posted this video on Mozart's birthday! 262 years old!
His pretty old🤔

WHY DOES NOBODY PREFER LISZT?
My top 1 composer is shared by 3 guys: Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Schubert, I cannot just pick one 😆
Nice
Couldn't believe they didn't have any of Chopin or Schubert in the top
@@Nikhil-ox6wc they are less known I think. Not by name.
For me it’s Grieg, Tchaokovski, Rossini, & Pachelbel.

I love Mahler.
I know it’s cliche, but my favorite composer is also Bach. His music is so complex and interesting to listen to, and fun to play, in my opinion.
My favorite is Aaron Copland.... I know he isn't classical in the classical sense, but he's my favorite.
You're right, just now noticed that you hit 50K.... Anyway, I just now got back from auditioning for a very tough Honor band, All State, to find that you uploaded a video about Classical Music.... This was really interesting. Thank you.
