I’d love to hear you do this the other way around- match an artwork to a piece of music. I was listening to Poulenc sonata for piano and clarinet a few weeks ago, and wondering what art was being made at that time, what he would have been looking at.
Poulenc was from the early 1900's, so besides the classics, he'd certainly have been familiar with the works of Monet and Picasso. I think his works are very melodic, a bit too refined for the more daring art styles coming out at that time, but also rather grounded in reality, so maybe something from John Sloan would go well with Poulenc's music in general. 😊
Just did some googlating, and was surprised to find the pice I was thinking of was written in 1962, at the end of his life... and the John Sloans look a little too old fashioned for it... but the Poulenc doesn’t sound very 1960’s to me... I need to do some research on this!

Someone could try this idea: When trying to convert painting genre to a music genre or a music genre to a painting genre something like this could be made. When converting painting genre to music one: 1-Get a painting genre and list down all its characteristics. 2-Convert those characteristics to musical/sound ones using music thoery skills, painting theory skills and logic skills. 3-Create some music with ALL the characteristics from step 2. Some music listeners forum tried that idea with colorfield painting genre and came with the genre tonefield In the end the sub-genre works basically like this: 1-Song is mono, if its some format (like cd) that don't support true mono, both channels have the exact same thing. 2- The song start with a silent part with 1 second (or more) or with a tonewith 1 second or more (tone must have same waveform, frequency and amplitude during its entire length) 3-Song ends here OR continue with with a new silent part with 1 second (or more) or with new a tone a tone with 1 second or more (tone must have same waveform, frequency and amplitude during its entire length) 4-Go back to 3. The problem is that people at the forum were not musicians so most of the songs of that genre sucks. This label catalog the stuff they made: wavelength2.bandcamp.com/
Non-musician here. Hmmm... You had me checking this piece out. It's soulful, serene, sensual and tender yet tinged with sadness. Not quite the interpretation I get from this painting. But that's it... We all perceive music/art/life in different ways and God, wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same...
My favorite piece in the whole world is Toccata and Fugue. It's the most challenging piece I've ever learned to play --- and I still had the exact same reaction as you when they changed from 4'33"! 4'33" was the brilliant choice for The Thinker. I think Eddy in particular isn't a huge fan of conceptual music - so he didn't embrace it. Too bad.
For the Klimt, the Adaggietto from Mahler’s 5th Symphony. For the Debussy, yes to La mer, but the 3rd movement (Dialogue between the wind and the sea). Starry Night is more expressionistic than impressionistic to me. Maybe even philosophical - it expresses a sense of wonder and awe; it’s a map of spirit energy. It’s not what he sees; it’s about how it makes him feel to see the night sky above the place where he stands. It’s a very turbulent image but the feeling is simple awe. I’d pick Arvo Pärt’s Spiegle I’m Spiegle. The Creation of Adam is full of visual energy but it’s also a frozen moment, a tableau. And it’s not the moment of connection; it’s either before the touch or after it. It’s clear to me that it’s before. Adam is languorous; The father is the agent in the scene. It’s very cinematic in our modern concept of depicted drama. Not-quite-touching - between passive and active. Maybe the subtext if not the outright intent is to ask questions about faith and power. The music should reflect that tension. It’s not in a museum; it’s in a chapel, so the music should also evoke that setting. I would pick Monteverdi - the tenor duet from Vespro della Beata Vergine.

I clicked on this video just to see the silence part, and then he give his own opinion to pair the silence with the noisy artwork. it's interesting. For me, id put just a windchime sfx for that painting. The little chimes some house hang outside them. Because the colour reminds me of an autumn forest. Like dead leaves and thorny sticks.

It's all about the details.. You notice them they don't 🤷♂️.. Good video loved it.. And it was actually pretty informative I've learned a lot 🙋♂️😁
The scream. Accurate.
So happy to be recommended to this video! I love music, and I also love paintings and other forms of visual arts so this video is such a great coming together of both! Thank you for taking time to make this video, and share with us your thoughts! (Also love it that #twosets started off with their video and trigger this reaction video!) :) both of these vids are a great gift to the community!
I love your music choice in pairing with the paintings! :))
Thank you! 😊
Looks like I discovered another AMAZING and INTERESTING youtube channel!!!
On an unrelated note, your smile is absolutely heart-warming
Lovely video
Thank you! 😊
I've seen alot of youtube videos, this is at the top of all time favorites. Also, the Klimt painting and music was the best, as you shared at the very end.
Great Video! Love your support to twosetviolin
When I heard Für Elise as a child I immediately thought it sounded the way Starry Night looks
love how the camera movement on the kiss makes the gold shimmer! 🥰
Really? I hated it, tried to get rid of it for a 'cleaner' view, and I thought it was gone, but the final render still had it! 😉
So cool to see the two different interpretations/prespectives of the same art pieces. Also never noticed the bkg of the Mona Lisa!!
People only ever talk about her smile. There's a lot more going on to that painting than just her face. 😉
This video is so wholesome
I clicked on this video just to see the silence part, and then he give his own opinion to pair the silence with the noisy artwork. it's interesting.
For me, id put just a windchime sfx for that painting. The little chimes some house hang outside them. Because the colour reminds me of an autumn forest. Like dead leaves and thorny sticks.
I think Dvorak's Song to the Moon goes well with Vincent's Starry Night too...
I like how twoset blurred the middle woman and didn't even blur the one at the left.
Walkürenritt for the 🌊 was perfect, I agree. 👏🏼. 🙋🏼♀️
I love your speaking voice. it's calming :)
😊
For the creation of Adam I would've gone with the Creation by Haydn
now that you give more context to painting. your pick is good. but the first pick of two set is good too for first impression with no context. Haha
Videos like this highlight the fun of art, you can have different emotions, and opinions, and everyone is right! Thanks for your take on this videoQ
I was recommended to this video after watching the two set “match music to the painting”, it is super interesting to watch it from the other “side” and how and why your picks are different. Love it ! 😄
P.s I seriously thought you forgot to play that last song for the “the kiss” and was bummed out 😂. Great video !
Thank you for watching! 😊😊
I enjoy your videos, I can tell you're a cultured man. Keep up the good work, I'll keep an eye out for new videos!
Yes! Valkery on the great wave! Thats perfect! *chef's kiss*
*new sub here 👍
I love how the most viewed Chopin piece on RUclips uses starry night which I think fits it perfectly.
this was fun! :D came here from twoset, thanks youtube!
I agree with the Creation of Adam being Carmina Burana, but I believe the last movement - Ave Formosissima. Also, the creation of mankind, biblically, was the last day of creation before the day of rest. It's like a culmination.
i absolutely adore twoset but i agree with all of your piece suggestions over theirs 😂
Love the video. I don't know I how stumbled upon it. But gotta say, art plus music brought calmness into my heart.
I really enjoined this video!
You were very calm and pleasent to watch.
