Bought my Trangia, was I was 14 and in the Scouts - 47 years later I'm still using it. Why anyone would consider anything else, I have no idea. Also the Trangia works much better when the flame is closer to the pan.
I have the Trangia, Esbit Folder and a heap of home-made Alcohol-based Liquid and Gel Fuel Burners. Agree, Meths is the cheapest. Here in Switzerland we get 'Brennsprit' (Burn Spirits), liquid alcohol fuel which is under £3 a litre. That 'Dragon Gel' is way overpriced. We use 'Sicherheitsbrennpaste' (Safety Burn Paste) which goes at under £5 for an 850g bottle and is extremely clean-burning. I do not use Solid Fuel (Esbit) Tablets in my Esbit Folding Stoves, although I do keep box of each stored in both for 'just in case'. The Tablets are only available at Outdoor Stores, while the Alcohol Liquid and Gel Fuels can be had at my local Supermarket and are much cheaper. My favourite? Depends .. on the day and the mood 😊.
Hello , saw that you are in Switzerland. Can you still get "META" fuel tablets there ? They used to be very popular in the UK in the 1970s, but seemed to vanish overnight. They were used with a Meta cup/stove combination. TIA
Yes I agree the fire dragon fuel is overpriced and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a big drop in price soon . It's always handy to have a few solid fuel tablets in your pack just in case. Thanks for watching.
@@clivedunning4317 No, I have not seen them here .. only the Esbit brand tablets, and then only in Outdoor Stores such as Decathlon and Transa. Anyway, as I mentioned elsewhere, the Liquid and Gel Alcohol Fuels are cheaper and more readily available than the solid fuel tabs .. although I do keep a pack of Tablets stored sealed, in each of my Esbit Folders for 'just in case' and a spare pack for each at home. I haven't used an Esbit Solid Fuel Tab in more than 30 years.
B&q where selling the tablets really cheap as a clearance item. They had them down as BBQ lighters. My be worth checking them out at the end of next summer when you need to restock.
Love the trangia. So cheap and you can get fuel anywhere. Easier to put out than the tablets. I have the hexi stove as well and use tablets from coghlans which look pretty much same as the godora ones. Still can bet the gas for quick brew though.
Trangia or a starlite is my go to...... Alcohol is easier and more readily available everywhere at the drop of a hat.....the others you have to hunt for.....my alcohol burners are always in my pack for just that reason ,also it gets cold here in the winter and these stoves are the most faithful to get you thru on a bad below zero (F*) kinda day !!
@@georgeborrow4001 Oh, OK. I thought hexamine covered the lot of burnable heat tabs. I used Trioxane in the US military in the '70s. Stuff was noxious. Today, I prefer alcohol. I have two geniune Trangias, An Esbit burner that's a Chinese knock off of a Trangia, a very cheap Chinese knock off of that, and two Swedish military burners. Denatured Alcohol has gone up in price. I paid over $20 and change, for one US gallon at Home Depot. If fact, Coleman white gas is 4 or 5 bucks less. I also have a Svea 123, 123R, an Optimus 8R and a 99 if I want to get serious.
Hello hope your well I don’t believe that is a original trangia stove you have there.. I think it’s one of the knock offs.. I’ve had my trangia for years and mine has a T imprinted on the bottom and has safety instructions imprinted on the lid Perhaps they changed the design or something With the bcb stove.. what I’ve done is bend down the two sides that hold the gel and it then seats the trangia stove like a glove 👍
Let me know what your favorite stove/fuel combo is.
one that Nanny hasn't banned

Yes you're right. Once the pan is close to the flame we get that nice clean burning blue flame. Thanks for the comment 😊
Great comparisons george! Keep up the videos! New sub!
That's great thanks for watching.

I'd go for the BCB tablets, I'm not keen on using liquid. A lid would help speed things up. I picked up a BCB plus 12 tablets for £8 in Millets.

Yes gas is probably the best, until the really cold weather kicks in. Trangia so simple and so cheap to run, if only they could boil quicker.
@@georgeborrow4001 Boils quicker when you have the burner at the correct distance from the pan. Your video is totally flawed.
@@georgeborrow4001 have put a small candle under the trangia in snow to give it a boost. Leaned that from RUclips

Well put. Trangia must be the most reliable with the added bonus of being able to get fuel easily. Thanks for watching.
Great comparisons. I’m impressed with the tablets. If they don’t stink like hex I’ll look into getting some. 👍
They have a fishy smell until they are lit and then they have no real odour. Thanks for watching.
I thought Esbit and other hexamine tablets had been banned in the UK?
Hexamine has been. These tablets are made from another compound. Thanks for watching.

Yes you are correct it is an aftermarket burner. Thank you for the tip on the BBC stove and thank you for the comment.
