    All clerics always get either radiant strike (1d8 extra damage) or wisdom mod to cantrip damage at level 8. This is just a boost to the classes damage out put based on whether they are more of a melee or spell casting focused cleric.

    I always appreciated the cleric class. So many players wanted to be more of the fighter sneaky magic type.
    Yet....
    Nobody wanted to play the HEALER! Sigh...
    Thanks for showing the badassery of the cleric class that I always went with. =-)

    Jack Sparrow was given captaincy of the pearl and earned his pirate brand on his first run. A load of 100 slaves. He released the slaves making him a pirate. He was captured, the pearl was burned and scuttled. Sparrow escaped and bargàined with Davy Jones to raise the Pearl, found a crew and started looking for cursed gold, passing up several merchant ships càusing the crew to mutiny.

    A friend in a game I ran a while back played a goliath forge cleric. He was amazing and surprisingly sturdy

    • @Haunted_Gallows
      @Haunted_Gallows 6 лет назад

      Licjr 1018 The right cleric build can be tanky as all get out, especially with proficiency in Heavy Armor, and wielding a shield. Add on to that their healing abilities, they can deal damage as well as they can take it.
      I have an Aasimar Tempest Cleric who doesn't really heal and focuses more on dealing Thunder/Lightning damage who's also quite the tank.
      Clerics are great.

    • @Licjr
      @Licjr 6 лет назад

      Justin Thompson Yeah having fullplate that he made magical, a shield, and Shield of Faith gave him a disgusting AC. Even if he did get hit, he had the goliath Stone's Endurance thing to lower the damage. Aasimar tempest cleric sounds dope as hell too

    Hey guys, thanks for keeping the podcast going. I’ve only recently gotten involved in D&D and you guys have pretty much taught me everything I know about it so again thanks. I also wanted to say, I enjoy the little, out takes I guess, that you tack on to the end. It’s a neat little look behind the curtain. It also gives a sense of humanity to you guys. What I mean is, we just get this great finished product and it’s easy to think “Wow, I couldn’t do that and know this much.” But that bit says “No, they’re people too. Anyone can.” So anyways, thanks. P.S. out takes are much better than the sage DM you used to do. Sorry, just some constructive criticism.

      Thanks for the constructive criticism ( there is a reason we stopped those at episode 10) and of course thank youfor watching the show!

    Death domain and Oathbreaker both strike me as subclasses to build villains out of, i.e. why they're in the DMG and not a players supplement.

    Forge cleric: coins are made of metal. You can just convert your coins into the tool you need. You are going to fight a lycanthrope? Just turn 250silver coins into a rapier, or 20 silver coins into a dagger, etc

    I would probably allow a death domain cleric to worship Orcus, not technically a deity but I think flavor-wise it fits

    • @Haunted_Gallows
      @Haunted_Gallows 6 лет назад +2

      Justin Timm Orcus can be considered a diety. He IS a Demon Lord, he has worshippers, and he has what is basically a divine portfolio. He's about as much a diety as Tiamat or Lolth, though the power levels between the three are competitively subjective.
      Still, even high level players wouldn't want to come face to face with Orcus. He's one of the most terrifying characters in D&D for a reason.

    • @meerkatx
      @meerkatx 6 лет назад +1

      Orcus has and still strives to become a full fledged god and grants clerical powers to his followers, so it totally makes sense should Orcus exist in your campaign.

    • @jand.4737
      @jand.4737 5 лет назад

      Orcus was a deity, he just isn't anymore. depending on when the game is set, that might be allowed.

    you can rename and re-flavor spells to fit your characters arch-type, the point of the PHB and other sources is to provide you with balanced tools and general ideas. each of your pc's spells and skills can have their own appearance and also use a different damage type. for instance you could state that when you use a light spell on an object that the light looks like a glowing skull around that object, that eldritch blast looks like green poisonous ooze shooting through the air, etc. as far as rules go it works the same, but you can role play the spells and abilities to match your character.
    also just want to point out that you can concentrate on one spell and cast another one at the same time, you are just limited to one concentration spell at a time. if a dm allows and you have a familiar that can do so you could have it perform the concentration for one spell while you do another one.

    I notice you disliked the added damage that each of the classes gets but mathematically this class needs it to stay viable so ehh, not really that bad.

    Well, the Black Pearl was originally the Wicked Wench, but was burned down and sank along with Jack. He signed his deal with Davey Jones and Davey raised the previously destroyed ship which i believe was when it became black. So it is neither painted, nor made of naturally black wood. The black was Davey's idea, it would seem. Also, when Barbosa mutanied against Jack and took that cursed aztec treasure the ship was cursed as well, further altering it's appearance to be more tattered and ravaged, much like it's skelital crew, and constantly shrouded in unearthly mist... So, actually more of an upgrade than a curse, if you ask me.

    Rewatching this because I'm playing a death cleric to orcus 😈
    My solution to the only damage abilities problem was just picking up utility spells and feats.

    I made a cleric gunslinger hybrid. It opperate under the war domain and Matt Mercer's Gunslinger rules (you guys should talk about it or all his works like his blood hunter class or the Tal'Dorai campaign setting, I can send you guys a link to it) She was a cleric of Anubis. She ushered the souls of the unjust to the Duat (the underworld). She'd press an eagle feather (her holy symbol) to their body to send them off.

    Monster listings show average HP values, but monsters generate hit points the same way characters do, so as a DM you can differentiate unique monsters of the same type by rolling its HP. Also rolling HP for monsters keeps players on their toes, since they can't use metagame-y knowledge like, "That wolf had 12 HP so I know all wolves have 12 HP from now on."

    first comment wh00p wh00p!! cleric's are so good and sometimes so underrated by players (i've seen many new players looking at the cleric and saying; errr I don't want to play a religious character..next!) they are so interesting and I know that my next character is probably going to be a light domain fire genasi cleric who is a pyrotechnician OR a forge domain dwarven cleric with the clan crafter background (really doubling down on the dwarvish aspect xd)

      A.J. C.F. it is a shame that the fact clerics and Paladins are ties to religion deters players. I'm a complete atheist IRL, however I recently played a half elven light cleric and had a blast. I think that it's important for players to be able to compartmentalize their character as a separate entity from themselves.
