Fantastic!! Any plans to do a PRS Archon Vs. Mesa Roadster?
Archon all day err day!
two thumbs up
could you compare it to the 50w head version?
DEM CHUGS THO
How old are u and wat do u do for a living???
Like the Archon better than the mesa?
Still wondering the same thing i got me a dual rec tremoverb is it worth the trade?
Hey man, which mic are you using?
No live mic was used. I use the two notes torpedo reload that allows me to record directly into my daw where I use two notes wall of sound plugin for cab modeling.
Yea I misread the description...I saw it after I posted the Question. Really enjoy your channel man. Keep em' comin'!
You're hilarious
Dat bass tho...
can this amp get a good modern metal tone at bedroom volume?
terry lafauci nope, only with an attunator.
Remy O. have you ever played one? I'm getting alot of feedback back saying they can.
terry lafauci it depends on your expectations and what you want to do with an amp. High wattage tube amps in general do have tone on bedroom volume. Still, you cant get the real juice with an 100 or 50 watt head in a regular living room. You need to push powertube section to overdrive tones, which you only reach at high master volumes. The pre-amp tube section sucks at dailing in the juice, where amps actually are famous for.
So the real question is, do you want; a stage monster; tone which suits you best at home; or do you want both?
For home performance (with thesame budget in mind), I would recommend Kemper, ENGL or a soundcard to your computer with a plugin like EZmix metalgods. If you really want a versitaille high watt tube amp, you def should go for ENGL....they have this "special punch and clarity" on every volume level.
The Archon acts more like a dirty peavey or mesa, which need a lot of dialing, testing, gearfreaking etc. To give you a quick example; archon meets living room => Trying to dial in a clear and punchy frequency which you aren't able to reach on a low master volume => Trying to hold off a nuclear bomb explosion with a very sensitive rotation button => endless tweaking with no satisfying result => no fun in playing on high end gear, because your low volume level sound is like crap => waste of time and money because you fuck up your precious tubes and wiring due to underperformance.
Oh and btw, attunators color your original sound. So that's like playing beautifull sounds through an cheap hollow box of wires..... Def no-go.... Experienced it all :p
Today I use my tube head only for rehearsals and gigs. At home I play with EZmix.
Remy O. well, I played the EVH 5150 III 100w recently and it was absolutely crushing at every volume, even at volumes I could easily talk over. I was curious as to whether or not the Archon could do the same because I feel it is much better in build quality. I'll be using a boost with it any way. I have looked into the Kempers but I had to downsize my budget in favor of putting the extra cash towards savings so the wife and I can put a down payment on a house, plus, I've never had a tube amp before.
terry lafauci I think the Archon can perform at low volumes, and ofcourse you need to boost it for compression, it's always better than having a Roland Cube. But I wonder if it's satisfying to tame such an expensive beast to bedroom volumes. I have a Mesa Boogie Roadster which I used with the same purpose. After a lot of tweaking and testing with different watt modes, I discovered this powertube section overdrive trick which really makes the difference for owning a tube head. If I can't 'push' it to the max in 'bold mode', because of the neighbours, then I prefer digital plug-ins. In my opinion and experience they're way cheaper and more usefull to handle (read; easy to set up, recording, practice, writing music).
I think the building quality of heads are not that important just for jamming around at home. Most tube amps will last a lifetime if you store them in a dry and dustfree space. Try to avoid bedroom if you dont have a flightcase.
