You picked the perfect man to sing that song. I was born and raised a Catholic and had recently been saved, and I had just been introduced to gospel singing. I was on my way to work when I first heard Midnight Cry, but the dj never mentioned who sang the song. After hearing the song several times, I finally found out it was Gold City. I had never heard of Gold City before, but I knew I had to find the record or tape with the song on it. I subsequently found a cassette tape of Gold City with that song on it, and I played that song over and over again for several months every chance I got. That song is one of my favorite gospel songs, and Ivan Parker has been one of my favorite gospel singers ever since the first time I heard it. I can’t imagine anyone else singing the song better than Ivan. Thanks so much for the song and introducing me to Ivan Parker. God bless you.
What a blessing it is to hear this lineup of the gold city quartet. It was this group that caused me to fall in love with quartet singing alongside the singing rambos. What impeccable harmonies and immaculate stage presence. Such feeling of love with all the performers on this stage. Must have had a blast singing together after all that time apart.
Tim Riley is the bass singer that attracted me to Gold City so many years ago. This line up of singer tugs at my heart. Gold City has brought many hearts to Jesus when scripture did not do so.m
I know you never said you got it for a long time but it's been a long while most of the time when you get through okay also pay for David Johnson and Rosanna Johnson everyone in the family was at us Robbie Hagberg
This is the Gold City that I listened to back in the late 80's to mid 90.'s.....working in a hospital laboratory, doing the lab work and listening to their great voices, together and separately, they cannot be beat!!!!! It made for an easier shift!!
This lineup was the first Southern Gospel Quartet I heard after being away from Gospel Music for many years. I think it speaks volumes to the fact that each member of this lineup has gone on to have very successful SG groups or solo careers. As great as this lineup was, I never thought there'd be another as good. But, like The Gaither Vocal Band, they keep reinventing themselves with great talent and communicators through music. They'll always have a favorite place in my heart.
First time I ever heard " When I Get Carried Away" I instantly thought of my husband. He loved Jesus so much, but he was very quiet, shy, didn't talk a lot. He had a hard time expressing himself every time he tried to testify, & would just start crying. I knew the day would come when he could finally say & show it all. When God took him home one of my first thoughts was about this song.
I love this genre of music. I grew up listening to this group and many others thanks to my dad who’s now passed on. Every time I listen to this music I feel extremely close to him. This music is a blessing. Can’t get enough of it.
What a blessing to find this video of the reunion of these four great gospel singers! When I was a new Christian in the 80s I saw them twice in concert. About the time they split up things happened in my life that left me in the two most discouraging decades of my life, without the joy of the Lord. Listening to THESE Gold City singers has been one of the few activities that's given me any joy in the Lord over the last 20 years. Maybe this is a sign of God bringing victory in my life again!
This group of gentlemen have blessed so many hearts! Could we even count them? Known this group since 1990, and they have all been faithful to our Savior. God Bless you guys, still love hearing you❤️❤️❤️
This is the very lineup that marched right into my soul, slapped the devil right out of it, and took up residence with God's message when I had no interest in God. I credit these four men, Brian the Best, Ivan, Mike and Tim, God's own bass singer...I credit them as the main reason I'm a Christian. Why? Their extremely addictive talent kept me listening to them and along with that came the message of Christ Jesus. My life's story doesn't exist without these four men singing of a love I call the
AFTER ALL OF THESE YEARS, I STILL ENJOY LISTENING TO YOU GUYS! I PRAY GOD CONTINUES TO BLESS YOUR INDIVIDUAL MINISTRIES WITH THE YOUR AMAZING AND ANNOINTED VOICES! WITH LOVE AND FROM THE HEART...Kim Culpepper Parrish! :)
Ivan is the only man I know today that can seriously rock a mullett and get away with it! I love this Gold City!!! I saw them in person several times before they went their separate ways and they are amazing men!!!! God really blessed them with a lot of talent!
brian free is such an amazing person. Brian free and the assurance came to my church a few years ago and it was such a blessing and he was so down to earth
In the late 80's I went to several of their concerts in NC and they were so inspirational to my spiritual life. Will always have a soft spot in my heart for them!
They came to our little Church in Savannah, Ga with this lineup and as a child I became a fan of Southern Gospel quartet music. I truly believe that they are much better together than they are separately. They would have rivaled the Cathedrals if they had remained together. Love each of these guys.
Thankful for this group and all who have been in it over the years. Your music has provided motivation, reflection, comfort and strength every time I've put it on. Words cannot express my appreciation for your message and your craftsmanship in providing the messages in your music. God bless each and every one of you!
Amazing! Loved this group twenty years ago and they sound just as good as they did back then. They recorded more number one songs than any Gospel group I can remember. They are faithful and have shown it over the years. Love these songs they are very encouraging.
This wonderful group has always been anointed of the Lord. Hearing them in person was a truly blessed time. Praise the Lord for Jesus and for Gold City honoring His precious name! See you in heaven, Liz
I love this video I started listening to Gold City when I got saved at 17 and I had the privledge of seeing them at the National Quartet Convention and it was so awesome... If youhave the chance to go to the Convention go it will bless your heart....it did mine
WOW!! This Southern Gospel at it's BEST!!! TIM RILEY is some unbelievable!! God has given him tallent!!! Brian, Ivan, and Mike is a great line up!!! Gold City spells Elite Class!! I would love to have a to hear these guys on the road!!!!
After all these years, they still have great voices and great harmonies. It was especially gratifying for me as a baritone/bass singer to hear Tim Riley after coming out of retirement.
Just wanted to make a comment and Encourage you. You know that in those 2 decades, God NEVER left you, don't you? He has been right there beside you, waiting for you to come back! :) He has been watching over you, and bringing you thru whatever it was that you were going thru. He tells us in Hebrews 13:5.....I will never leave or forsake thee.....!" May you be Strengthened and feel His Love! :)
I have always loved the Gold City version of Midnight Cry from teh 19080's above all versions. It was so good to hear these guys back together like this.....
1985 or 86 I was in second grade or so. Had been raised on Souther Gospel music but my parents didn't have a lot of money and we did not have a lot music, just a few tapes we had dubbed from some friends. A southern Airman visited the our church, and since he was from the South and a Christian I asked if he liked Southern Gospel. Well he did, and asked if I knew Gold City, but I did not. He told me if I brought him some blank tapes he would copy some for me. Well, that changed my life. 30 years later I am still listening to Live and Double Take like it was the first time.
Absolutely awesome lineup! I saw them a few times and not just their talents, but their personalities and behavior were above commendable. They just naturally seemed to gel like closest friends. This lineup of Gold City and the Singing Americans with Ed Hill, Dwayne Burke, Mike English and Rick Stricklin are my absolute favorite quartets.
After all these years, I still think this group of men made the best Gold City Quartet ever.
Best Ever
I love em all, Tim Riley is an awesome bass as well
I miss this group. They came to my Church back in the early 90's and Gold City Brings so much joy to your heart when they sing.
These are the men that introduced me to Gold City. In my opinion these were the best ever.
I grew up on this music. I enjoy listening when I am missing my parents, who have gone on to be with the Lord. Brings a smile to my face!!!!
Still the best lineup for Gold City!
It's amazing that after not singing together for 20 years how their harmonies came right back together like they'd never been apart!
Brian Free is my favorite tenor singer. God bless him!
Love this group especially Ivan Parker.❤️
Now that's a quartet with talent beyond measure! Brian adds so much to any group with his exuberance and voice!
Would you believe it? Brian Free is the most awarded Tenor Singer in all of Southern Gospel Music! He's truly got a God-Given Tenor voice.
He's great!
I love to hear this group. Ivan Parker is great
Dec 2023, and still one of the best ending low notes for when o get carried away. Crispy notes by tim, even at this age
Midnight Cry was written by me and my husband Shawn Sullivan in 1993. Ivan Parker always gave us credit for its writing.

Thanks so much for the song and introducing me to Ivan Parker. God bless you.
Ummm why are you on here lying?
Midnight cry was written by Chuck and Greg Day. Two brothers.
Wasn't written by you and your husband lol😂
Thank you for writing such a beautiful song.
What a blessing it is to hear this lineup of the gold city quartet. It was this group that caused me to fall in love with quartet singing alongside the singing rambos. This is the Gold City I grew up on. This is my fav lineup, I really wish they would re-release some of the classic era stuff
Best ever Gold City lineup
I know you never said you got it for a long time but it's been a long while most of the time when you get through okay also pay for David Johnson and Rosanna Johnson everyone in the family was at us Robbie Hagberg

Totally agree
Great voices individually! I could listen to Ivan Parker every day , all day.

Brian Free, the BEST tenor Ever!!!!!!
Music made in heaven, God bless Gold City.
Great group , need to still be together. Love these singers! Especially Brien Free and Ivan Parker!!!
Ivan Parker and Brian Free are both awesome. I simply wish that in our society today there was a wider forum for this type of music.
I love this genre of music. I grew up listening to this group and many others thanks to my dad who’s now passed on. Every time I listen to this music I feel extremely close to him. This music is a blessing. Can’t get enough of it.
Probably my favorite lineup for Gold City. They all blended so well together.
You cant go wrong with Brian Free!!!
Brian Free's voice is just awesome, still after all these years.

Wonderful harmonies! Not many groups can pull off what Gold City have been able to do!
In the 80s and early 90s Gold City was the BEST out there and I admire Tim Riley for holding it together after that
This is great!! I love it. Brian Free can't be beat.
This group of gentlemen have blessed so many hearts! Could we even count them? Known this group since 1990, and they have all been faithful to our Savior. God Bless you guys, still love hearing you❤️❤️❤️

This was the Gold City lineup when I discovered Southern Gospel they had a solid unique sound and great songs
Hard beat Tim Riley on Bass. He just shakes the building.
Philip Holcomb of The Inspirations also has a very deep powerful bass voice. Them, Gold City, The Perrys, and The Kingsmen are great gospel groups.
Thanks for sharing this. These four guys had a sound that will never be duplicated.
