Cool! I have a clear acrylic Prusa i3 kit that I put together for my son. I asked him figure out how to use it so he can show me. This video makes me want to get back on that project. I thought it would be fun to make an LED enclosure for it and redo the cable management.
great monday morning surprise Bob! josef is just a machine. glad to see him reaching out to you guys to help get his name tot he masses (beyond the already versed 3d printing community). great breakdown of everything about this printer too.
Finally a glance at unloading the printer from the box. I have watched several videos and nobody is showing the un-boxing. Thanks Bill... Mine is on the way :)
I want a 3d printer so bad. Think of all the replacement parts you could print, say your tv remote shell cracked or handle for a car door maybe even home made fps freeks mice shells etc. Oh boy it all sounds so fun.
This Video comes to the perfect time. I'm actually searching for a good, but not too expensive, first 3D-Printer and this seems to be it! Thanks Bob! btw. Love your Channel! Keep it on.
Wow! Long ways from when I was using the FDM Titan and LENS rapid prototyping machines way back in the day. I remember going to different conferences when the first desk top 3-D printer first showed up. Pretty cool!
0:35 Just to clarify. They did not pay you to make a review but they did send you a printer for free so you can test it? That's some confidence in your product.
***** What I mean by that is that they didn't pay him to do it. Sure he now has a 900$ printer but he can't use that to feed his kids (unless he sells it)
I bought a pack of gummy bears and was really disappointed that it didn't come with a 3D printer :( Ho hum! On a serious note, this thing looks really cool! Love the colour scheme, too :D Oh by the way the link to Tom's 14 hour build actually links to a different video :P
I've been thinking about getting a 3D printer lately so this is perfect timing. This one seems like a good option, I might just get it. And yes I'll get it fully assembled. For just $200 more they take the headaches and hassle away from me ;-) Thanks man!
Bob its not a glass print bed, its PCB with a PEI film covering. Its a fantastic printer BTW, I have one. Perhaps worth mentioning that they do an upgrade kit from the MK1 if you have one of those, (as did I)
I built a mk3 today (it took 2 1/2 days actually) but the setup is super simple so if you get one trust me, it is really user friendly and has a very good print quality (I printed the triceratops skull)
The Prusa i3 is a no nonsense ready to go machine at a great bargain. Worth the extra cost. I am an Anet A8 owner presently and while the machine was cheap and prints fairly good, it does require a lot of tweaking and modding to get the quality up. So you are going to spend money on all those activities as well as wasted printing matter. Knowing what I know now, if I had to do it over again, I think I would save a little longer and get a better machine such as the original Prusa i3 Mk2.
My girlfriend and me watch your videos for about over a year now... Since the beginning, every time when you say: Hi I'm Bob and I like to make stuff... We reply, HI BOB! :D ... We can't stop doing this, it is automatically now. So your video's bring us a little smile as well ;)
Hey Bob, could you possibly do a video on the entire 3D printing process? Everything from getting a model to sending to the printer? That would be really helpful!!
Hey Dylan, I kind of did one of those at one point. Check this out and see if it covers what you're looking for. ruclips.net/video/FjznbLaaf4M/видео.html&lc=z13kvrwwks33jruop04cgxejxkqswt3zldc
Welcome to 4K, a very good investment in the longterm value (and revenue of your videos). Very intelligent business choice! Always at the top front of technology ;-)
Very useful video! thank you! I've been interested in 3d printers for some time now but for a first starter is difficult to handle all the information online.
Building them is half the fun! PS: If you really want one but you're tight on cash, get one of from aliexpress. They start at about $250 and they're just as good - in fact some parts are better, for example some printers have an aluminium frame instead of acrylic.
Btw it's a weird tradition in 3D printing to send candy. When I ordered my e3dv6 hot end they sent me gummy bears too. When we ordered printer kits for the makers pace they sent candy too. Very weird, but neat.
Just wanted to let you know it worked, I'm buying one next payday. Been on the lookout for one that can do fine detail and accuracy at a good price ever since I got zbrush
4:47 at first when he said you can get the kit for 699 and the fully assembled version for 899 i thought he meant $6.99 snd $8.99. I was so suprised until if figured it out. OOOOOOOH $699 and $899 not $6.99 and $8.99
A fantastic machine, and at a reasonable price, I was interested in the clones and getting it cheaper until you mentioned the deal breaker, NO GUMMEY BEARS. It has to be the Prusa for me.
I know you've already done something on the deltaprintr, and that's why I decided to buy it. It hasn't arrived yet, did I make the right decision? It doesn't come with gummy bears (as far as I know) but it's the new deltaprintr go version so it comes fully assembled and the quality is supposed to be better.
Just got the Flash Forge Creator Pro last friday, I've been a printing factory for the past 4 days! Probably have developed lung cancer from the fumes from just staring at the 3d print for countless hours lol
Is Josef giving out these printers to anyone with a RUclips Channel? I see TONS of people getting these printers from him and reviewing them online: Makers Muse, 3D Printing Nerd, Thomas Sanladerer, Richard Horne... I expect Tom Scott and Secy Cyborg to get one soon!!!
Don't know about Bob, but if you're just curious about usage in general, I use mine (i3 mk2 - same as Bob's new one) almost every day and that's just for stuff around the house, I also plan to use it for costumes and stuff like that eventually. House usage for me is mostly adapters and mounts, with a few things where I just haven't been able to find what I'm looking for in stores (custom soap dishes and stuff like that).
Thanks! It just depends on what I'm working on. Sometimes it's in use for a few days at a time, then unused until the next project (like most of my tools)
Hey, have you seen the Shaper Origin? It's awesome and they're taking preorders now. I know it's kinda pricey, but it would be amazing if you could do a review of it and use it for building your projects !!
I think Bob makes less money if you skip the ads after 5 sec. And since I love his videos I prefer to spend some time to watch the ads so he get more money so he can continue making great videos! Thanks Bob!
I was wondering if you could explain what the 3d printer brings to your business? I have seen several people take the plunge and get one, and then have no real use for it.
Well, that really depends on the business. My business is content and media production, not product sales. This is a tool for me to create elements of projects which in turn help me produce content.
I really want a 3D printer, and this one looks like the best entry level one. Thing is though I can't explain why i want one. Not sure what I'd do with it. Do they all come with candy? That sort of seals the deal.
Ha! No, I've never heard of another coming with candy :) Yeah, it's certainly not something that everyone needs or can justify. For me personally, I love gadgets AND tools, so when I bought my first printer, I didn't have a need for it specifically, but I knew that once it was at my disposal, I would find some uses for it. You can't use a tool that you don't have access to. Conversely though, maybe you could find one locally at a makerspace or library and see if you can't make it useful for you first, before committing with your own money.
In a lot of modern cities there's labs you can print, some free or at cost, some a bit more expensive. There's also a lot of labs that print them for you and ship the models. Sometimes in really high-end machines and in materials you can't print at home.
If you just want to get into it, MonoPrice has a small volume $200 assembled printer available. It's been getting good reviews overall (hackaday did a great tear down of it too, including pointing out flaws and workarounds).
The Anet A8 is a popular clone of this. Theres a lot of users and resources online and prices start at $175. Keep in mind it comes as a kit, but is really easy to put together
Yea, if you want to build a larger printer, I advise a design by Tech2C. Just search up hypercube tech2c. You will need to source the parts and print the parts (with 3dhubs or a local lab) and then you can build it. It will be ~500 max. You can source cheaper parts and hit the 300 dollar ball park. You will get a large build volume, 200 x 200 x 200, a very good motion system (core xy,) and with enough determination, it can turn out to work very well!
"The overall print quality between the Ultimaker 2 and the i3 Mark 2 is basically identical." Look at that Z wobble on the i3 print, though. Or what's the defect around the height of the throat?
Hi, Bob! Can you please do a Crash Test on the XYZ DaVinci printer since it is only $350 at Barnes and Noble? I would like to know if it is worth buying.
I Like To Make Stuff you're welcome! Oh jeez how should I reply... Um... Hello sir. I love your videos. Lol just kidding! I showed my family your videos and they all agree you are a really great builder.
Well usually you print yourself upgrades since the basic parts will almost certainly turn out to be inadequate. Which is why people should wait until devout tinkerers figure out all the flaws of these things and then slowly get on board if they can be fixed.
Problem is, when something breaks, you can't print the replacement part! So you should get at least two, to have at least on running at any given time... :D
This review is from 2016. How relevant is it today in terms of other 3D printers on the market? Does this one stand out, or are there other serious competitors in the same price range?
Don't EVER think of only the practical/useful things to make. Those ideas will come, I promise. Print everything and anything you can! It's a lot of fun, and a great hobby to have.
I don't want to be this guy but since alot of people in the comments seems interested in this printer I have to point out a mistake, the print bed is actually 25x21cm so a bit bigger then Bob said.
Great! I must have missed that. Love the channel, found it after you showed up at Bill Dorans channel and I have almost watched all your videos since that.
This is cool, though I often wonder how people justify the price, and whether they hold up over time. Creating a few personalized items that can't be easily bought is very appealing, but getting $600-800 plus time and materials out of it seems unlikely for a hobbyist
I think every use case if different for a 3d printer. I think if you just want to make little widgets and toys, it's more cost effective to use one at a library or makerspace. If you're looking to make an object to sell or augment another workflow (like jigs, brackets, etc) then it becomes a tool which you justify the same way you would a table saw etc.
What about print quality rigidity. Do models from one printer have the same strength than models from a different printer? Or is strength always about equal? And why is there no case around the printer? I thought the early top model printers all had a case around (for temperature if I remeber correctly).
Had mine for a week now, really excellent experience as a complete novice...It just works!
That's awesome to hear!
Correction on the build volume: the build vol is 25x21x20 cm and PEI, not glass
Please make a fan moshen
I Like To Make Stuff thank you
Cool! I have a clear acrylic Prusa i3 kit that I put together for my son. I asked him figure out how to use it so he can show me. This video makes me want to get back on that project. I thought it would be fun to make an LED enclosure for it and redo the cable management.
ILTMS Video on a Monday? that was a nice surprise!
great monday morning surprise Bob! josef is just a machine. glad to see him reaching out to you guys to help get his name tot he masses (beyond the already versed 3d printing community). great breakdown of everything about this printer too.
Thanks Seth!
Finally a glance at unloading the printer from the box. I have watched several videos and nobody is showing the un-boxing. Thanks Bill... Mine is on the way :)
Thank you very much, Bob, most appreciated! Cheers from Toulouse.
Keep it on.
Thanks! I hope it was helpful!
I'll see that when i can print my first Props :D
Wow! Long ways from when I was using the FDM Titan and LENS rapid prototyping machines way back in the day. I remember going to different conferences when the first desk top 3-D printer first showed up. Pretty cool!
I didn't know they came in ILTMS orange! :-)
;)
0:35 Just to clarify. They did not pay you to make a review but they did send you a printer for free so you can test it? That's some confidence in your product.
They did give him a $900 printer though, some may see that as payment enough.
***** What I mean by that is that they didn't pay him to do it. Sure he now has a 900$ printer but he can't use that to feed his kids (unless he sells it)
+Volvary he makes views of it (add rev)?
I bought a pack of gummy bears and was really disappointed that it didn't come with a 3D printer :(
Ho hum!
On a serious note, this thing looks really cool! Love the colour scheme, too :D
Oh by the way the link to Tom's 14 hour build actually links to a different video :P
the kit was tested too and it took me 5 hours and its my first 3d printer GOOD VIDEO
I've been thinking about getting a 3D printer lately so this is perfect timing.
This one seems like a good option, I might just get it.
And yes I'll get it fully assembled. For just $200 more they take the headaches and hassle away from me ;-)
Thanks man!
Bob its not a glass print bed, its PCB with a PEI film covering. Its a fantastic printer BTW, I have one. Perhaps worth mentioning that they do an upgrade kit from the MK1 if you have one of those, (as did I)
Hey Bob, I just got the new version of this printer. It's been excellent so far. Nice review!
Bob!! Funny meeting you here :) Did you get the MK2S? Sounds like a nice little upgrade!
I built a mk3 today (it took 2 1/2 days actually) but the setup is super simple so if you get one trust me, it is really user friendly and has a very good print quality (I printed the triceratops skull)
Awesome review, my son was super excited about the gummie bears.
Me too!
Nice video Bob. Love the open source part about the prusa!
Thanks for the review Bob!
The Prusa i3 is a no nonsense ready to go machine at a great bargain. Worth the extra cost. I am an Anet A8 owner presently and while the machine was cheap and prints fairly good, it does require a lot of tweaking and modding to get the quality up. Knowing what I know now, if I had to do it over again, I think I would save a little longer and get a better machine such as the original Prusa i3 Mk2.
Great review, thank you! About to buy one and these videos help make the decision a lot easier.
My girlfriend and me watch your videos for about over a year now...
Since the beginning, every time when you say: Hi I'm Bob and I like to make stuff...
We reply, HI BOB! :D ... We can't stop doing this, it is automatically now.
So your video's bring us a little smile as well ;)
Ha! That's awesome! Thanks to you both for watching!!
You're welcome! We learn a lot from you!
wow i just realised i haven't been subed but have been watching regularly for over 6 months
Good review Bob. I like my UM2, but this seems like a great alternative.
I was looking for something to replace my robo 3D which is a complete piece of junk, thank you so much for this.
Hey Bob, could you possibly do a video on the entire 3D printing process? Everything from getting a model to sending to the printer? That would be really helpful!!
Hey Dylan, I kind of did one of those at one point. Check this out and see if it covers what you're looking for.

I don't know how I missed that episode.... Thank you!! Perfect!!
Great review, Bob. Very helpful. Still kicking around the idea of getting one.😁
I love how half of the 3d printer is 3d printed
the beauty of the original open-source reprap design. aka skynet
It's like the chicken and the egg... What came first?
The 3D printed parts or the 3D printer?...
+Maarten Jongkind lol
good one
3D printed parts from different printer .... now we know the trutch. The first chicken's parents were not chickens!!!
Look up "RepRap Project" :P
Welcome to 4K, a very good investment in the longterm value (and revenue of your videos). Very intelligent business choice! Always at the top front of technology ;-)
thanks for the nice product review... looks like a pretty nice printer for the money. 🤓👍🏼
Very useful video! thank you! I've been interested in 3d printers for some time now but for a first starter is difficult to handle all the information online.
Look for the annual 3D printer edition of Make Magazine. It's chock full of information every year it comes out. Totally worth the price.
Thank you! I will check it out
Building them is half the fun!

Ok.Thank you for the advice.
Can u add another video in how to add or change the Printing files to make other stuff than what files it already came with?
Like the ease of this printer. Sounds much easier to use than the makerbots I have at my school.
"Oh my goodness! Shut me down. Machines building machines. How perverse."
C-3PO [observing the battle droid assembly line]
Haven't done a crash test in awhile ey... nice video!
Btw it's a weird tradition in 3D printing to send candy. When I ordered my e3dv6 hot end they sent me gummy bears too. When we ordered printer kits for the makers pace they sent candy too. Very weird, but neat.
Great review Bob, thanks!
worth you time to get the series back!!!!
Very informative review thank you for that info. Love the podcast by the way.
Thanks!
I think if I get one of these, my first modification would be a box (plywood?) to keep the heat inside for ABS printing.
Great video Bob!. I have a question, do you make stuff in the shop with your kids??
The Wanhao Duplicator i3 is also a great starter printer for its price point.
Just be wary of heat bed shorts.
Prusa's I3 mk2 and Mk2S now have a 4 color print head upgrade !
Joe is being Oprah and giving all youtubers mk2
:-D
Congratulations on success. Let prusa research be next lulzbot or ultimaker.
Just wanted to let you know it worked, I'm buying one next payday. Been on the lookout for one that can do fine detail and accuracy at a good price ever since I got zbrush
If I get a 3D printer that's probably what I'll get😉thanks
Hi Bob. Great video. Thank you. When will you make a cannon?
4:47 at first when he said you can get the kit for 699 and the fully assembled version for 899 i thought he meant $6.99 snd $8.99. I was so suprised until if figured it out. OOOOOOOH $699 and $899 not $6.99 and $8.99
Best way to buy gummie bears, you get extra present :) this time it was 3d printer, last time I got front shock absorbers
Excellent job Bob.
Thank you David!
A fantastic machine, and at a reasonable price, I was interested in the clones and getting it cheaper until you mentioned the deal breaker, NO GUMMEY BEARS. It has to be the Prusa for me.
Hi, keep making your videos
Nice profile pic xD lol
Bob, can you please make a little circuit with a speaker that plays a MP3 file when I open my locker at school? That would be great!
I put mine together in 6hrs :). Great printer!
Yeah, I don't think it takes 14 hours, Tom was just doing a live stream of it, so that makes everything take a lot longer.

The black enclosures are 3d printed too :)
Great video Bob! Generally, how often do you use your 3D printer(s)?
Don't know about Bob, but if you're just curious about usage in general, I use mine (i3 mk2 - same as Bob's new one) almost every day and that's just for stuff around the house, I also plan to use it for costumes and stuff like that eventually. Haha. Makes sense. Thank you!
Hey, have you seen the Shaper Origin? It's awesome and they're taking preorders now. I know it's kinda pricey, but it would be amazing if you could do a review of it and use it for building your projects !!
Yes! I've tried it out (at Maker Faire) and it is every bit as amazing as it looks! Hopefully I'll get my hands on one eventually.
Only me watching the ads til the end so Bob can make more money?
Aww.. thank you! I really appreciate that!
Dont you get money if I stop after the 5 seconds ?
I think Bob makes less money if you skip the ads after 5 sec. And since I love his videos I prefer to spend some time to watch the ads so he get more money so he can continue making great videos! Thanks Bob!
I dont know the filter the ads use.. but I could just play the video again in a new tab without sound :)
Lol do whatever you want, if it is a long ad I usually go and grab something nice to eat while it plays
Hey Bob, great review! I'm curious what are the "couple of other printers that you really like"?
The Ultimaker 2 Extended and Form 1+ are my other printers.
Excellent, thanks!
the clones most probably also use cheaper parts (like the rods, bearings...) that can influence it or restrict the quality
hey bob could you make a video about how to make a work bench like yours it Would be great
p.s. I love youre video's
700 dollars for gummy bears? damn that's expensive, but at least it comes with a free 3d printer.
They were REALLY good gummy bears.
just ordered mine!
Robert Maxson cost?
I was wondering if you could explain what the 3d printer brings to your business? I have seen several people take the plunge and get one, and then have no real use for it.
Well, that really depends on the business. My business is content and media production, not product sales. This is a tool for me to create elements of projects which in turn help me produce content.
I love this Prinner ;D
I am thinking about getting one
Nice. Will you do more Arduino projects?
I really want a 3D printer, and this one looks like the best entry level one. Thing is though I can't explain why i want one. Not sure what I'd do with it.
Do they all come with candy? That sort of seals the deal.

Conversely though, maybe you could find one locally at a makerspace or library and see if you can't make it useful for you first, before committing with your own money.
My OCD is flipping out because of fingerprints at 1:36. I couldn't help staring at the fingerprints for the rest of the video.
I wish I could afford something like this 😅
me too

Great review!
Thanks!
Hi, Bob! Can you please do a Crash Test on the XYZ DaVinci printer since it is only $350 at Barnes and Noble? I would like to know if it is worth buying.
If I had access to one, I'd be happy to. Unfortunately I can't purchase most things just to review them.
Hey there! I just wanted to say you're an inspiration and I want to be a cool dude! Stay cool Bob
Thanks so much Charlie! I really appreciate that!!
I Like To Make Stuff you're welcome! Oh jeez how should I reply...
Um... Hello sir. I love your videos.
Lol just kidding! I showed my family your videos and they all agree you are a really great builder.
LMAO
da fuck are you talking about?
So is it a tradition or something to first print all the spares of your 3D printer so that you never have to worry about spares?
Well usually you print yourself upgrades since the basic parts will almost certainly turn out to be inadequate.
Which is why people should wait until devout tinkerers figure out all the flaws of these things and then slowly get on board if they can be fixed.
Problem is, when something breaks, you can't print the replacement part! So you should get at least two, to have at least on running at any given time... :D
This review is from 2016. How relevant is it today in terms of other 3D printers on the market? Does this one stand out, or are there other serious competitors in the same price range?
The Prusa MK3S (upgrade of this one) is my absolute favorite printer today. 👍🏼
isn't it a nice idea to make a Bluetooth speaker box? That would be amazing! :)
nice test. isn´t the print surface 25 cm instead of 20 cm?
Dang. I wish I had better ideas about what to use a 3D printer for if I had one.
You can print ANYTHING. The ideas will come :) Thingiverse.com has a ton of ideas to start with.
I think the catch is thinking of something useful/practical. 😅👍
Don't EVER think of only the practical/useful things to make. Those ideas will come, I promise. Print everything and anything you can! It's a lot of fun, and a great hobby to have.
I'm sure my kids would come up with a dozen things apiece 😆
Anything plastic that breaks for you can be remade with a decent set of calipers.
I don't want to be this guy but since alot of people in the comments seems interested in this printer I have to point out a mistake, the print bed is actually 25x21cm so a bit bigger then Bob said.
I actually just posted a comment correcting that :)
Great! I must have missed that. Love the channel, found it after you showed up at Bill Dorans channel and I have almost watched all your videos since that.
Stefan Lindström I think we were posting at the same moment :) Thanks! So glad you're enjoying the videos!
This is cool, though I often wonder how people justify the price, and whether they hold up over time. Creating a few personalized items that can't be easily bought is very appealing, but getting $600-800 plus time and materials out of it seems unlikely for a hobbyist

My first 3D printer was the Da Vinci 1.0 from xyz. I bought it for $100 😌
just subscribed
last time i was this early iphones still had headphone jacks
I know it's a weird question, but could you share the files for the bulldog ? thanks !!
I was going to get a clone, but then I found out you didn't get any gummy bears! Bummer.
I like that people now make 3D printer parts 3D printed.
do a video when you do a skateboarding ramp
buy the ultimaker 2! if i wanted to buy one, then this the price has a reason!
is it possible to print your head instead of going in for head casting like you did earlier..??
thnaks for the info
