Ahh darn it, I'll say it. I ended up cutting that portion of my original footage because in my mind? Metrics show that people don't seem to care for the "market analysis stuff". Anyway, I believe the ELO Vagabond was unfortunately created at the wrong time. I don't blame them, it wouldn't be fair too but really, that product was designed at the worst timing for the telescopic market. Something they couldn't have known. It was introduced on September 2023. 2 months before the Galileo G8 launched. It was on crowdfunding, so they couldn't redesign behind closed doors and optimize their product for the market of the time, they "outted" themselves out to the public, so they had to commit. The year that followed was TRANSFORMATIVE for the telescopic market. It's completely unrecognizable to what it was. Still, they invested the money, they have to recoup. 1 year ago guys? We were paying 100USD for controllers barely as good/bad as the Backbone. Nowadays, you pay 20USD for a controller that BLOWS the Backbone out of the water, think about it. So, long story short, this controller has a very solid foundation. In the market that exists today, it would still require more to justify the price tag, and it would need to go deeper into that "eSports" approach. But a year ago? The ELO Vagabond would've been the next best thing since sliced bread. Today? The Vagabond would need hair triggers, 4 back buttons, 2 top. High resolution TMR sticks and swappable D-pad to stand out. And truthfully, it would probably be matched within 6 months time if not less. ELO could've never guessed that this was going to be the reality one year later. They were going to "pioneer" the telescopic market but someone definitely beat them to the punch. That's not a reason to hate a product, especially if it still holds up as good as it does.
Appreciate it. two things to note is we're also a Canadian company. We'll listen to customers and improve future products properly with hard are and software (which traditionally other brands from different countries struggle with). The other thing is... I lived in China for 8 months while developing the product. Trust me when i say you get what you paid for and the culture between the west and the east is different. People will say "its the same" based on the outer appearance. There's a reason certain brands die in 6 months. I've seen what they do and none of it is consumer friendly.
@@ELOLimited Well, as someone that laid hands on your product, I'm ready to be called a shill if people think I give it praise just because. It's really a solid offering that you brought to market. Excited to see where ELO goes in present and future!

Honestly I was in the market for a telescopic controller, saw Elo had a sale on this controller for $75 when its originally $150 so I brought it, for this price this beats majority of the competition, sadly tho for $150 I would've gotten a g8 + lol, this is the time people should be buying this controller!
@ I checked earlier today on elos website and looks like the controller is now $100 base price! I’m sure with a promo code the price can be lowered as well. Back then base price was $150 then crossed out with sale price of $100 but now it shows as if the base price is now $100!
@@kevmayjim I mean honestly, I think it's probably a costly move for them, as if they can afford that, it literally means cutting $50 out of profit which would leave a lot less but ultimately, I think ELO can win A LOT by putting their names out there because right now, they are easily top 3 of the brands I'm most excited to see the next telescopic controller from, they have proved their worth with a single product, that is no small feat.
I got this controller the other day and yes it is premium but one thing I'm writing to the company about is the feed back on the wired headsets. I have used 3 different wired headsets priced from $80 to $300 and I get the same intermittent feedback through the headphones every few minutes. For the price of this controller it shouldnt have this feedback whether it be from poor cable shielding or maybe a bad ground. I shouldn't have feedback on a $150 US controller. I will try some plug and play ground loop isolation to see if that fixes issue.
Interesting. And I agree, at that price, issues like that shouldn't arise. After many years of fiddling with controllers, one thing I have noticed is the higher the polling rate, the more likely to cause intermittent complications with some aspects, the 3.5mm jack being one of them. If that is an issue, and if ever ELO sees this, I would recommend having an "audio mode" in the software where it lowers the polling rate to make sure the 3.5mm is not affected. I can't say for sure that it is at cause but I've seen this exact issue on pretty much controller with a 3.5mm where polling rate was addressable, be it through the software or through overclocking. Thanks for sharing your inputs!

Been watching your controller videos while waiting for someone to buy my old G8 lol. Ordered a Y700 last week, so I'll need someone bigger. The price on their website is still 100 dollars, so 75 with your affiliate link. At that price, does it feel that much more premium to a G8+? I had been looking at a Legion G7, which is a G8+ chassis but has a USB C port instead of Bluetooth. I'm undecided on Bluetooth or wired at the moment, and having rumble would be a nice change but I could look past that for a device that is pleasing to use.
I can't speak on the G7 past the fact that it seems to be a G8 that stretched wider. The ELO Vagabond is phenomenal ergonomics, great sticks and features overall. All in all, it's an option perfectly tailored for shooting games but if you are looking to have just more features overall, I would say the G8+ is also a fierce contender. Rumble, gyro but also multiple modes, PS mode, Switch mode, etc. I hope this helps, cheers!
@@GameTechTalk It's a great help, I appreciate you taking the time to get back to me. I'm mostly going to be using my devices for emulation, so I think that rumble is something I'd like to have. Fair enough. I'm theorizing a lot in that video, truth be told, their product do match the target playerbase they are going for. @gametechtalk at 5 min mark you mention putting caps on the thumb sticks I’m trying to do that as I recently purchased this product, are the size of these sticks comparable to say the sticks on an Xbox one controller trying to locate a good cap that fits any recommendations?
If you're going with a rubber cap, it'll be fine as it has a bit of stretch, a Kontrol Freek kind of rigid cap might not. They are ever EVER so slightly larger than Xbox ones and ever EVER so slightly smaller than PS5 Dualsense ones so it's hard to tell which would work best but I'd put my money on Dualsense ones if ever, as it would at least go in but if it's not tight enough, it'll be a struggle. Cheers!
I'm surprised it worked for codm right out the box. I play on iPhone and my g8 worked out the box as well, hoping my s9 do also. Only thing for me is the price tag. They do a Black Friday sale and I might grab on.
Canadian company. We're able to get partnerships and do firmware properly and improve. Also MFI certified by Apple so it properly talks to Apple devices :)
@@stephenbayley1441 It kind of becomes a situation of "each controller serve their own purpose" kind of thing. I have been playing a lot of CODM recently and the ELO wins that one hands down. Hey, I noticed this with the controller. when you hit the purple ELO logo button on the controller, why does it bring you back to the App instead of the Xbox Home Screen? I use my controller for Xbox remote play and cloud gaming but whenever I hit the purple ELO button, it brings me to the App instead of the home xbox page…like when I had the GameSir G8+ controller, whenever I would hit the GameSir logo button on the controller, it would bring up the Xbox window on the left side of the screen to quick select the Xbox’s main screen when you load it up. I thought that this controller would have the same feature for it and I’m not sure why it goes to the app when you hit the purple ELO button. Even when I remove the ELO app from my phone, hitting that button does nothing…..have you encountered this or anyone else? if so, is there a way to go back to the Home Screen by hitting the controller and not manually clicking on your phone screen all the time to do this feature. Like essentially I would like if the purple ELO button works the exact same way as the Xbox logo button on a Xbox controller and it it weird because when I hold down the purple ELO button for like 2-3 seconds, the screen (turn off console, controller, stop remote session) comes up the exact same way as if you were to hold down the Xbox button on a controller to power off the console, controller or restart your console. I know this is a lot but was curious if you have encountered the same thing? As I stated before, I was able to let ELO Support know about this so hopefully they will be able to fix this if it is a controller or app glitch
That would be because they have mapped their button to operate their app, rather than being the X-input "home" button. The home button is the equivalent of the Xbox button, the PS button, or the little home on joycons. I'm not 100% sure but try to long-press the ELO button for 2-3 seconds, that should give you "home".
Small ones yes such as iPad Mini, Lenovo Legion Y700, Razer Edge if you want to consider that a tablet of sorts. The Surface Pro will definitely be too wide for this controller. Cheers!
Just a curious question: can you test if this controller works for Wuthering Waves on iOS? That game on iOS normally has some pretty strict controller requirements (Xbox or PS controller, or a controller that spoofs the signal of said controller), but since this controller has both the form factor and level of quality I'd want from a mobile controller, I'm curious if it works in Wuthering Waves on iOS specifically before I make a purchase. Thanks!
I came so close from leading you wrong. In the introduction menu, it did... I had to delete a bunch of things (not enough storage) to download it all and once I did and tested in game, it does not work. I'm shocked, I don't think I've seen any other game do that on iOS, I didn't even think it was possible to tell you the truth.
@@GameTechTalk Thanks a lot for testing this and getting back to me on it! Yeah, Wuthering Waves on iOS is a strange one alright. Apparently more than a few MFi controllers don't work in that game because of the requirements it currently has. I've tried the Backbone and that didn't work either, and while the Gamesir G8+ did work, I couldn't get over the vertical stick/button orientation (made reaching the D-pad really uncomfortable for me). It's strange because apparently on Android, as long as the controller has an X-input mode of some kind (or an Xbox/PS mode), it'll work fine, so more controllers would work with it there. I believe Honkai Star Rail has similar controller support quirks on both platforms as well. Hopefully either the game pushes out an update that makes more controllers iOS compatible, or we see a controller that comes out with the form factor and apparent build quality of the Vagabond, but with more robust compatibility, because that to me would be the real endgame controller.
I had the same, the first one was getting misclicks constantly and couldn't be used anymore on the left side, some buttons were completely unresponsive and I even opened it to see if it was the ribbon cable that had ripped or something but it was pristine. I could never understand what happened. The second one it just stopped working completely from one day to the next.
I completely misjudged what this controller is. In the thumbnail it looked like a $25 Ali Express special and that's the headspace I was in when I started watching this review. Then Klef began raving about the, admittedly impressive, packaging and the he was impressed by the way the controller feels. That got me to thinking that this must be a solid $50 or $60 G8 Galileo alternative. I was SHOCKED when we got to the end of the video and it was shown to be $129. Uh, okay then. The certain physical intangibles that one can describe; but, no-one can truly fully experience in cyberspace must be off the charts for this ELO Vagabond controller to be worth anywhere near that much moolah. Maybe they are, I don't know. I don't want to put down or be too negative about something I've never touched where the tactility is the whole point. So, I'll change the subject... I want to offer kudos to Klef for his pinned comment about the behind the scenes of the ELO's development. I understand why that particular segment was cut from the final video; but, I'm happy that Klef posted a transcript for us to read. I enjoy that sort of inside baseball, even if no-one else does. I don't follow crowdfunded projects all that closely, until they reach the mass market. The pinned comment filled in some of the blank spots in my understanding as to why certain things were done the way they were done.
Thanks for your inputs Matt and glad I was able to provide something of substance! I played a lot more with the Vagabond since this video and I would praise it even more if I was to redo but it is expensive and I think the big difference is: this is a "western world" company following the "legal and correct" path to bring a product to market, as per our "western world" standards. No spoofing, only proper licensing. That clearly was a "no cut-corner" product, sadly, the market evolved greatly so it doesn't have E-VE-RY-THING but what it has is impressive, and above average for the space. I can at least give them credit for that!
@GameTechTalk - As Mr. Sujano would say, "You're all stuff and no fluff." You make some of the most substantive reviews on RUclips. Here's the thing about the ELO, I don't need a gazillion different features. My KK3P has a gazillion different features and modes, and I used them all... once. For the most part, the only special feature I use is the face button layout toggle. Why have a fancy controller if you don't use the fancy features? Because it feels great, works great, and I suspect it'll outlive me. That's why I love it. The more I hear about ELO in general and the Vagabond specifically, the more I think they're doing something right. I might've been unnecessarily harsh in my initial comment here.
I would be more careful with snapping it back together, I would be on a losing streak and have to do something irl and left it snap as I snatched my phone out and ruined the ribbon cables on ALL of my backbones. Just fixed both and now have one for work👌🏽
Funny enough, I had two Backbones do that for me too. With that said, I am ok not "baby'ing" products sent for review, that's in part what they are sent for. Cheers and grats on rescaping the pieces you had, I love to read this!
You'll have very few options with USB-C at the left, the X2s comes to mind. That said, I don't mind having my Fold be under, it's surprisingly manageable in my opinion.
I think you're taking the wrong way, everything you review is the best out of the best, which makes us believe, it's just not possible... You just want to stoke deals with different companies, by not pointing anything wrong ever... Reminds me a bit of ETA Prime, which I've never seen pointing wrong at anything...
I appreciate your feedback, I disagree with your stance and I believe the entire video probably exposed what I love, what I don’t and even what I like better.
anyone can recommend me a mobile controller like this with more buttons? i already have gamesir x2s but lacking of buttons. also my controller dial pad (the up navigation) is malfunction already some times cannot be clicked. and i tested it out and theres a problem
The telescopic market hasn't received "more buttons" if being honest. I can't think of a single option that has 4 mappable buttons to give you an idea. They might exist but they certainly aren't common. I think the first question that would be fair of me to ask is do you mind a small form factor, do you want big, what games do you primarily play? Because the ELO Vagabond has a lot going for it... for the right person. If you're a "general games" kind of person, it's probably too expensive. Have you considered the Abxylute S9?
Interesting, feels a little overpriced especially with what you just said, who those ELO guys are? I mean if it's branded with razer, logitech G serie logo or something like that then maybe high price is understandable as with the price some sort of quality guarantee is added (not always a valid one lol), but in that case it looks like better to sit this one out and wait for others and then maybe try with v2. As always, great review.
Thanks! One thing for sure, they are passionate guys, because the product tells me as much but I am really curious, I do wonder if they had past experience in developing and bringing a product to market because this is an extremely well-put together solution.
Ouch, that price is brutal. Especially for something with only 2 back buttons. It still looks like a premium product, with a dedicated app, so I get the pricing.
I think the foundation is solid, but to your point, if that controller was the same price with hair triggers, 4 back buttons, or at least 2 back, 2 top? I think that this would be a better proposition for the market that they cater to.
Honestly? I'm not sure. I suspect there is hardware/software detection in the firmware but I have no proof to back that. There is definitely some clever work at play here, to the point that I wonder if Backbone and ELO are associated to some capacity.
That it is. Don't get me wrong, the unboxing experience stood out, the software and no spoofing, yet working on Call of Duty and Remote Play tells me where is software/hardware detection happening? It's impressive. It's a pretty compelling controller but the price isn't. Right now they are running double sales but even at 105USD (rather than 150USD), it's still a tough pill to swallow. Anyway, I could keep going on and on, I ended up cutting 1h05 down to 19mins in this video ahaha, a lot just had to go but if ever ELO sees this, I'd love to chat if a V2 is ever in the works.
All a question of perspective. You've been a sub for 3 months (thanks by the way), you know what I love. GameSir, Abxylute, EasySMX. I'm a big "bang for your buck" type of consumer and I favor "immersiveness" over "competitiveness". I think this review is best summarized at 14:44 , I stand by that statement but I know I'm not the "target" clientele with this product and that is ok. I guess you and I have similar tastes! 😊
Another Awesome Goodies for Gamers... And Great content details as always... Indeed... Keep the great work... 😎🙃 However... GameSir X-4 Aileron Or and BsP D8 ( Sky Black or or Star Space White) for Now... 😎 🫡🤯
You can't really go wrong with either of them too. I'm not too keen on the "phone mount on controllers" solution, it shifts the weight in ways that I can't be bothered with. But the controllers themselves are highly reliable.

What tablets does this support? iPad mini’s only? Does this fit a Surface Pro?
I have two backbone one controller broke on me while gaming so I stopped ordering, but this looks promising tho ihope it can last for long time.
Cheers and grats on rescaping the pieces you had, I love to read this!
so sad about the usb on the right , can't play with it with an foldable :(.
Razer kishi ultra is the best by far, used the g8 for a long time but it feels cheap
As long as you find something that gives you the experience you were looking for, I call that a win. Happy Gaming brother!
First like, let me check this video 🎉
Ahh dang, thank you very much!
Woah it actually works? How? Is it spoofing a Backbone?
Honestly? I'm not sure. I suspect there is hardware/software detection in the firmware but I have no proof to back that. There is definitely some clever work at play here, to the point that I wonder if Backbone and ELO are associated to some capacity.
:)
It’s a bit pricy tho..
Work consumes me, but here I come to annoy xd .... 7:30 ... I better put the fighting game before I forget it like in the previous video hahaha
Nahhh, no annoyance here my guy! Glad that I didn't forget ahahah! 😊
Over priced
All a question of perspective. You've been a sub for 3 months (thanks by the way), you know what I love. GameSir, Abxylute, EasySMX. I'm a big "bang for your buck" type of consumer and I favor "immersiveness" over "competitiveness". I think this review is best summarized at 14:44 , I stand by that statement but I know I'm not the "target" clientele with this product and that is ok. I guess you and I have similar tastes! 😊
That controller looks like a boomerang💀💀
Oh no 😂 I'll never be able to unsee this now!
Another Awesome Goodies for Gamers...
And Great content details as always...
Indeed...
Keep the great work...
😎🙃
However...
GameSir X-4 Aileron
Or and
BsP D8 ( Sky Black or or Star Space White) for Now...
😎 🫡🤯
I heard a couple people talk about getting the X4 at amazing price. If the price is right, it is a fantastic controller solution, one can't deny that.
Not bad, I still prefer either a PS5 or Xbox controller for Warzone Mobile. Guess it's just personal preference 🤍🏪
You can't really go wrong with either of them too. I'm not too keen on the "phone mount on controllers" solution, it shifts the weight in ways that I can't be bothered with. But the controllers themselves are highly reliable.
