In this video, I will be discussing the impact that the original Saints Row had when it first released. I have been a fan of the saints row series since Saints Row 2 onwards, but never got a chance to play the original game. This video will provide an in-depth look on why I think the first Saints Row game was able to stand on its own in a world where the GTA series was going strong. Hope you enjoy!

Saints Row is a 2006 action-adventure game developed by Volition and published by THQ for the Xbox 360. It was released in North America on August 29, 2006. Set within the fictional city of Stilwater (modeled after Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, and Baltimore), the single-player story follows a player-created character who joins the 3rd Street Saints gang after they save his life, and helps them rise to prominence by undermining enemy criminal syndicates, while slowly building up his own reputation within the gang. The storyline is non-linear, and divided into three separate story arcs for each rival gang that the player must defeat.

Saints row 1 and 2 seriously made me believe that they could potentially compete with the grand theft auto games for real. Such real and gritty story beats mixed in with the great comedy and gameplay really made these games something special. Insurance fraud is probably one of my favorite side activities in any game ever. Then saints row 3 was released and ive never been more disappointed in watching something with so much potential be squandered and made into a legitimate joke.
I rather play 3 than that Reboot trash
Now that I have played the first SR, I agree that the first two games were big competitors for GTA. There were serious moments but things weren't too grounded. While it's not for everyone, I did enjoy the goofiness of SR3. It has been a long time since I played it though, so my opinion might change after playing SR2!
Same way I feel. I actually liked Saints Row more than GTA til The Third came out. Saints Row had another chance to shine with the reboot, but dropped the ball again, and is dead at this point. Plus that was after the GTA trilogy definitive disappointed a lotta fans like myself so Saints Row could've held us over, but NOPE.

when everyone talks about saints row they never talk about how iconic the multiplayer is. the glitches built into the skill levels, the quick switches, the moonwalking, a tapping, the slap teleport on PTP, the game was way ahead of its time, it had gang leaderboards, gang matches, custom lobbies, SR1 multiplayer still is GOATED
That is one thing I did neglect until I did some research on the game. I think the servers are still up so if I spent more time with it, I probably would've checked it out for a bit!

Still the best game in the franchise imo.
Great video, I've played SR 2006 about 4 times, most recently in the lead up to the 2022 game and I was surprised how well it holds up 17 years later. Each SR game has a distinct vibe and those vibes have staying power!

Don’t call it Saints Row 2006. There is no other real game simply titled “Saints Row”. The new one should be called Shit’s Hole cause that’s what it is

Great video, never personally played the OG Saints Row because it's an XBOX exclusive but it still looks like a decent experience to this day.
Appreciate it!! Like I said in the vid, this was the first time I played the OG Saints Row because it was an exclusive. I played every other game in the series (except Gat Out of Hell). I enjoyed the original a lot more than I thought I would have. If you ever get the chance, I recommend it!
Yea it still holds up fairly well, just bought it on sale for like a 1.50 an would recommend it

Saints Row 1 is absolutely amazing. Would play it all over again if i could. Felt like the gangsters version of True Crime
Saints Row 1 and 2 were actual gangster games, because they had the perfect combination of fun and seriousness. Even though Saints Row 3 took the goofy stuff too far, I enjoyed it. Saints Row 2 is my favorite game of all time.

Great video. Just an FYI, you unlock unlimited sprint by tagging all 75 locations. You get upgraded weapons by completing most (if not all) of the Hitman targets.
Appreciate it man! Yeah I didn’t discover unlimited sprint until I was almost done with the game. I had only done a few. And Hitman was an activity I didn’t do in the first game but after playing Saints Row 2 (I’ll have a video on that soon) I wish I did them. They were actually really fun in 2

Really good video, I'm working on my own series of Saints Row Retrospectives and I'm doing a little tour of the competition. I think yours is my favourite so far. I find that some of them get a little too bogged down in summarizing things but I think you strike a good balance of summarising as well as talking about your personal opinions and how these things actually affect the game experience.

Nostalgia ❤️❤️ 7th grade, staying up playing this and Bully back and forth. Didn’t even miss gta sa despite prior to getting that game I’d play gta like 13 hours a day in the summer.
Saints Row is still the best in the series imo.
I remember being so awestruck about this game and still is, its got this feel to it, I remember momz coming home with a new xhox 360 for me and then had saints row cause she seen I been watching gameplay of it I swear I was glued to this game lol ima have to gwt it back alomg with saints row2 and the saboteur

Disappointment of being associated with the previous installments and also problems with old games being tied being exclusive and lack of in
interest to remsater.
But to answer your question, the lost a lot of source code and rights because of the THQ shutdown.
I wish I could've played the first Saints Row

I always found it easy to cap out a good deal of respect by completing the graffiti tags tbh, after that you need to do one more activity so you can do all the story missions.
I didn't find this out until late in the game. If I had known this from the beginning, I probably would've tracked down all of them!

Another good part of the game that you didn't mention was the cheat codes.
I did actually towards the end of the gameplay section. I didn't think about it though until I finished the game which is why I didn't talk about it too much.
@@VandoM22 😂Doh!!! Sorry, I was in and out. Me and my Dog had a tussle on the floor after she found my Skittles on the edge of the bed... I saved some, but lost so many. I fought to the very end though😂

This is my favorite game, Saints Row 1. Good memories! Sometimes I still play it, more 3 now a days but I can’t compare. Saints Row 1 had it all man. 😭❤️🙏Saints Row 4 or above is nothing for me.
Reason why most of the songs are unfamiliar too public is because requiring famous music can be expensive and have a license. It's the same as GTA.

It was very nice of Microsoft to make this game backwards compatible with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S consoles.

Good retrospective video dude... You deserve any sub for me because you talk about SR my favorite open world game right now... Especially 1(even tho never try it ) just lacking female gender 1 maybe the devs forget to add it... But later add it in 2.
Appreciate it man! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the sub. SR2 was my first one but SR3 was when I got invested in the series. And the female option is in SR2. Just thought it was odd that it wasn't in the first game. I prefer making a female character in my games (don't know why) but I most likely would've chosen a dude here if I were given the option.
@@VandoM22 SR2 has pronouns that also doesnt make you afraid if you being a girl.. since people refer you as the girl with "She,Lady,girl,Her" The system data save also affect it so you might watchout when making male character your character got called as the girl...
Yeah so far my Favorite voice when making female character inSR2 was 1.. shegot soft voice,Psychopathic aura
And 3 suits well as Goth look character for her can speak spanish language,Psychopath voice that also shows she love murdering people for the fun..(Too bad Only SR2 had in next game they keep refer you in free roams as a man kinda useless making female in next game)
