I wasn't furious but initially slightly underwhelmed. However, was hopeful. After his introduction I was on board. Everything he has done shows skill, class, and excellent decision making for the present and future.
I was honestly so happy to see Calipari go that I was willing to give just about anyone a chance. I was excited to learn it would be Mark Pope and now I'm thrilled! The way he coached the game against Duke was phenomenal! This is going to be a great season!
I actually wanted Mark Pope. I was thrilled when he was announced as the new coach and even more thrilled after his first press conference. I truly believe he will do great things at Kentucky.
Great video! So many emotions! I've lived in northern Colorado for the last ~3.5 years and Pope being hired, Pitino back in blue at Madness, and after the VERY EXCITING 123-52 exhibition v Kentucky Weslyan... I feel like, at 39, we have closed a circuit, come full circle.. as my dad said of Pope truly caring about us/this program.. and Pitino being back.. "It feels like the family is back together again." I will freely admit that I am a bit misty eyed simply typing this out and idgaf what anyone thinks of that! GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!
One Kentucky fan here. I appreciated Cal, and was not calling for his exit. But when he left, that was over, and Kentucky is still KENTUCKY. I loved the Pope hire from the moment it happened. I believe Coach Pope is a great coach for Kentucky. Mark Pope is a perfectly logical fit for Kentucky; after all, he was the captain of the greatest team of all time. Regarding "no tournament wins" -- Duke's coach had no tournament wins when they hired him; Carolina's coach had no tournament wins when they hired him...
I was excited for a UK guy from the very beginning- I loved Cal…hated it ended the way it did. When I heard Pope I was a candidate I was super excited. I hope he is successful for all of us! Go BBN
Shout out from Russell County!!!!! We love our wildcats !!!! I remember to well 1996 champs!!!! I think ky is heading back to the glory days!!!! When banners are not just expected but are delivered!!!!
Absolutely amazing video Steven. Love every one of your videos. This is now one of my favorite. The editing and your story telling is stellar. Love the pope hire simply bc he is one of our own and honestly I was right there with the rest of #BIGBLUENATION but came around 2 days later like a brain fog was lifted. Now at this point t I wouldn't take ANYONE right now for our coach! No one loves their bball team like kentucky
Not all of us hated the hire initially, I would say it just happened to be the loudest portion of UK basketball fans who will never be happy, no matter what happens. I loved the hire from the second I heard the "rumor". I did not think Scott Drew would be a good fit, and I personally can't stand Dan Hurley. I'm so grateful we got Coach Pope, he has been phenomenal and I believe he gives us the best chance to get #9, 10 & beyond!
Seeing Pitino back brought so much joy to me. He brought Kentucky back from the brink of death, and he made my childhood full of amazing Basketball memories. Welcome back coach.
Im a 38 year old alumn that grew up in puke orange country. We dont have time to wait, it must work now. We needed this hire but we’ve got records to sustain and we must win and win big fast. Pope has got to get our rivals under control, hold off kansas for the all time wins, and get to the final four. I wish we had 3 years to give him but we dont. We sit at the top of the NCAA mountain as the program with the most #1 spots in majority categories. So im praying this works because he doesnt have much time
When Mark Pope was announced as the coach I couldn't have been happier. I've said for years that Kentucky basketball had lost its way. I felt our tradition has been thrown out the window in favor of being a prep program for the NBA draft. I've been a die hard member of the BBN since birth when my Dad placed a UK basketball in my crib. I was too young to remember Coach Rupp, but remember Coach Hall well. I remember watching Goose and Macy win it in 1978. I was 6yo and I remember my Dad, who never got emotional, was that day. It had been 20 years since the Cats had won a championship. And a former player turned coach, Joe B. Hall...brought a championship back to Kentucky. If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on Coach Pope to do it again. Maybe not in the first year, but with his love for this program, this university, and this game combined with his high intellect....he will be successful.
Im a 38 year old alumn that grew up in puke orange country. I was a Pitino kid and love this for aure. But We dont have time to wait, it must work now. Will admit when I first heard that Mark Pope would be our new coach was a little disappointed. But a short time later just after hearing him talk about his love and passion for the University Kentucky I knew that he was the right man to lead our program. Then his speech at a packed Rupp was the coolest thing I had ever seen. It actually brought tears of joy to my eyes. Can't wait to see every game we play and what the future holds. Believe it will be very bright. Go Cats 💙🏀🏆
Knocked this out of the park again. I can say for sure that I was one of those fans who was extremely vocal about how terrible I believed the Pope hire was. I was losing my mind over it. It's amazing the way he walked into this and just won over the hearts of the fan base by just being his genuine self. If this works out well, this could be the greatest story in KY basketball history.
@@WatchKSR Looking into his offense and seeing that he had wins at Kansas and vs Baylor last year certainly made me feel a whole lot better. And that press conference was one of the greatest things I've seen as a fan in my lifetime. I almost cried, which feels ridiculous to say, but I could feel the emotion from the fanbase so hard. And it felt so good to see him and his family be received so well. This thing has to work. It's just too good already to not.
I remember watching 'the team that plays video game basketball" video thurs night and noting the view count. It was at like 10K and the next day it had jumped to like 40k, and today it's at 189k, haha.
I was one The first people up late at night at 2 AM on the message boards with a couple other guys hearing rumors of Arkansas wanting cow. We didn’t believe it at first, but then it just kept coming. As the night went on, it became a parent that this was real, and everyone began to wake up and read it. I posted this video of the video game style coaching by Pope. Once this video went around to three different message boards, I posted it on, it began to turn. Yes I am taking responsibility for that video going around all UK fans. There’s no need to thank me tip your waitress.
As soon as the hire was made, a certain someone said, " This hire is actually a slam dunk". And said,"He would get high level talent". Wonder who that was.
Actually Cal got fired. Thats say what it was. Only drew and pope actually got offered contracts. Donavan said he would take the job after the NBA season!!
I will admit: I freaked out at first. I remember the Pitino teams. I remember the two titles in the 90s. It was never anything against Pope personally. I just questioned if he was ready or not. Kentucky is not a place for just any coach. But I quickly warmed up to the idea once I saw that press conference and heard him speak. Now I am full speed ahead on the Pope train!
"The roof nearly came off the place, from Louisville to Russell County, from Pikeville to Paducah, from England to Spain..." I'm here to point out that Big Blue Nation is present in Canada, as well! I was only 3 when Pope won a title in 1996 as a player, but I've heard nothing but good things about those 90s Kentucky teams. I need to find some time to watch some games from that era.
The AI came up with one of the most cursed UK logos I have seen at 2:12. I love the video and the hire though! I am a student at UK right now, and Mark Pope makes me excited for this season after the past few years of expected disappointment during basketball season.
The most memorable years I EVER HAD watching UK BB was the 90s Rick pitino ys it's also some of the most memorable moments & games i loved the hiring of MARK POPE he's a chip off the pitino old block it's united BBN ALL AS 1 it's fun 2 B A FAN AGAIN
Mark Pope wasn’t my first choice. But I was happy with the hire from day 1. I know Mark doesn’t have any NCAA tournament wins but, neither did Coach K when he took the Duke job. Not saying Mark Pope is going to be the next Coach K but, be patient. Give him time and he will win number 9 for us, and hopefully more.
U just mad that louisville has no support around the state and cant do anything like this. Your coach is 3 feet tall and nobody knows or cares who he is. We get it. Just put on the blue and pretend youve always been UK. Its fine.
Everyone saying they liked the hire, i was on the boards and was one of the first ones with 2 other people talking about arkansas rumors and Cal. We were literally seeing it in the middle of the night first. We didnt believe it then it turned. And let me tell you, there wasnt anyone in favor of the hite until that video went around. So a few might have liked it but it was far and few between. I dont remember a single person in favor. Not 1. Until that video and then Pitino coming out. It’s when everyone thought about the 90’s, Pitino ball, Popes love for UK, and THREEEEEES that it turned. This video hits it on the head. I mean perfectly. So stop pretending it didnt happen this way we have the receipts. It did happen this way.
coach Cal is like a new boat! everyone is excited about it ya spend lots of money on the boat and year after year the boat breaks down and ya keep patching it up, well Cal is like that he is old and broken and can't coach anymore! so we are excited about getting rid of Cal and now we are excited about Pope, so now we have a new boat, and we are ready to go
Barnhart was never interested in Oats. Him "turning down" UK was a farce, no more real than anyone reading this announcing that they're no longer dating swimsuit models. If UK wanted him (thank goodness we didn't), he'd be at UK (and I'd have watched my last game).
don’t get me wrong on a national level this isn’t a good hire because he has 0 tournament wins. but hiring a former player does help. but we saw what happened to Georgetown and Indiana so there’s that
Pope was really the only logical choice. We needed BLUE blood injected back into the program. Just don’t freak out when we lose some games. I think Coach Pope will have things sorted by the time we hit conference play. He’s actually a basketball coach, not a clown…
I'm proud to say i have no idea who is on the team and i no longer waste time watching or listening to a bunch of entitled little kids who could not care less about Kentucky or the fans in the mountains and hollers , or in the coal mines of Mulenburgh Co - These players nowadays can barely hit a free throw
I like how this video ignorantly assumes that all fans hated the Pope hire. The only people who hated the Pope hire were the Caltucky fans. Kentucky fans were elated because he played for the Cats and knows what he was hired for.
This video was AWESOME... Thanks for the hard work, it is greatly appreciated!!
I am 100% in support of our new recruits, Coach Pope & staff! GO BIG BLUE!
This is the type of content I would love to see more of!!!!
Dude... You killed it on this video.. chills
Love the work, Steven. Please keep it up, dear all real UK fans.
This isn’t suppose to be a hype video but it gets me hyped 😂
Mark will be fine. Support will hold him together! Go Mark!!!!!
Awesome video! Amazing job to whoever put this together. Just fantastic. Oh how we love our cats.
Gonna be a fun season. Great video KSR

A ton of KY fans were thrilled about Pope since day one. I'm one of them. Speak for yourself, bud.
Ben knows ball
From Louisville to Russell County was a nice touch
Not gonna lie, I was balling when Rick Pattino took the microphone and fans went crazy.
This is about 1000% better than that stupid boring Cal & Chicken Man doc some incell in Arkansas put together!

Kentucky fans love winning. As long as the coach is doing that, he could be insulting their momma, and it wouldn't matter.
100% accurate
