Spot on, both my kids are prone to this. My youngest got admitted to the hospital last year. My oldest has croup right as I type this ... I utterly hate this and what's worse is the sense of being powerless to help. Luckily he has a Dr. Appointment tomorrow. It'll be a loooooong night.

My little one had it so much! I can pick it up so fast. He’s had steroid shots in his legs and nebulizers. We had to rush to the ER many times. Thankfully he’s outgrown it. He gets it still but I deal with it at home.

I felt like such an idiot walking in because she wasn't coughing at all and looked totally fine. Then when I was explaining to the triage nurse what had happened, my daughter gave one cough. That was all it took for the nurse to know it was croup.

Hey Toby let me just say I’m 20 and I still get the croup everytime I’m sick. It’s an infection of the voice box. Of course keep a close eye on it but let me just say I’ve been dealing with it my whole life and have never had to be hospitalized for it and I already had breathing problems with asthma. It sounds much worse than it usually is. For me it hurts my chest but it’s more of an inconvenience than a threat after all this time.

have you checked to see if she has genetic markers for auto-immunity? I am an adult but only learned a few years back after getting an injury to my eye that caused severe inflammation that was impairing my vision and not improving. I was given anti-inflammatory medication for my eye and they did a blood test and found that i have certain DNA that makes my immune system more prone to inflammation and also auto-immunity. I had symptoms of this as a child which included much respiratory trouble including asthma and shortness of breath.. I believe it also caused trouble in similar inflammation of the middle ear sinuses and the eustachian tube etc. For me, not knowing the cause, I was told i had allergies or rheumatism., but with not really know how to improve my health or keep my health well. For me I am pretty sure consuming dairy products was a major contributing factor for increasing my likelihood of having an inflammation or auto-immunity outbreak. Oddly, I remember eating a particular brand of packaged ketchup that could almost instantly cause me to have shortness of breath and tightening or restrictions in my respiratory system.

Came here because my 3 yr old woke up with this cough. I've bumped up her vitamin C, giving her some herbals and honey and lots of warm fluids. Hoping we are not one of the ones who need to go into hospital. Praying for the little bubs who did have to. The world has changed and sickness seems to be consuming everybody.

Disease has always consumed the human race. It's the nature of being alive. We're are surrounded by germs and viruses and parasites and it has ALWAYS been this way, in fact we are way way better at handling it now than we ever have been.

My 3 year old son developed this over the weekend, ended up being blue lighted to hospital. It was scary how rapidly he went down hill.
Just home tonight after a 3 night stay in hospital.

This happened to my son. He went to bed feeling well. Middle of the night I heard a few coughs, went to check on him and decided to lay in with him. He had a full blow airway issue, had to call an ambulance. Very scary stuff. I was shocked how quickly it came on.

It sounds like an asthmatic cough in a way. My daughter has had a cough for 3 days now. But the short cough sounds like a seal bark. If it doesn't get better, we're going to her doctor. Thank you for the different sounds in cough.
