I guess you could get a bit more power too, so if you're on the cusp of not staying in lean burn, it might make the difference. Maybe. Probably not for most people...
Love this video, right now with a gen 2 Prius and looking to maximize efficiency with it too but this is exactly what I’m looking towards but not too crazy. Just enough to daily
My best: Chicago - Detroit - Chicago in June 630 mi 75.9 mpg Stock 2000 MT with a barely functional IMA and not particularly well maintained. Regular unleaded gas. It was mostly just about driving carefully. I did keep my tires at 55-60psi so that helped. No AC. My typical: 55 mpg. I am getting a new low mileage G1 on the road now. I’ll finally put my LIBCM in that one and hopefully install a forced auto stop. I’ll install Scott’s belly panel and put together some sort of radiator block since outside temperature and therefore engine temperature make a huge huge difference. Maybe that’s more about hot air mods. That seems pretty easy to do so maybe I’ll finish my obsession with that. Nice paint job.
I'm have been looking for the a pillar but they all have tabs broken. I saw that you made the tabs for it. I'm going to do mine as well, i wish you made a video on that because those are so hard to find now. Thanks again for the insight content.
putting it in neutral gives you the opposite effect you are looking for. the engine will idle and use gas but if u stay in gear and coast ur engine will turn from the kinetic energy and is not pumping any fuel into the cylinder. Or is there something im missing cause its a hybrid?
You're not missing anything, you are correct. Don't know why he mentioned that info in the video, it's clearly incorrect. Cars have had this feature for a very long time...
I have noticed that when I replace my air filter with a NEW air filter...that I get worse gas mileage. It makes sense to because with the new air filter every time you're piston sucks in air.. it sucks in MORE air when you have a new clean air filter.
i often see work vans with pieces of cardboard blocking the grill, especially in the winter, because the outside of the car is much more aerodynamic than the engine bay. Drilling big holes in your rear bumper also improves aero, that's why drag racers do it. Lowering ride height also makes your car more aerodynamic, but removing side mirrors is impractical and illegal, however you can replace them with smaller ones.
@@rorri2372 there’s nothing dangerous as long as you apply throttle when necessary. Coasting only adds efficiency. It drops RPMs to a minimal state which means less combustion which means more efficiency. For example, in the insight, you will normally hover around 2000 RPMs. With the car in neutral and coasting that drops to about 900 RPMs. Here’s how an engine works, RPMs or revolutions per minute is an empirical measure of how much gasoline is being combusted to produce horsepower, and therefore movement. Less revolutions means less combustion, which means less gasoline being used, which means more efficiency. Much much more efficient to coast.
@@gray25xt But don't cars nowadays have a thing when you use engine braking it doesn't consume any gas? I don't know how this works in an automatic but i'd imagine the same
The cost of e0 gas outweighs 3mpg in my area
Everywhere, really. But only because of ethanol subsidies we're all taxed for anyway, whether we even drive or not

I agree with you, but it’s an obsession thing.

Nice, thank you for the video. Very high quality way to explain.
i am jealous of that insight. so clean... want one so bad. i'll settle for my echo for now though :)

I actually have a live AFR reading in my car and can confirm that releasing throttle cuts fuel 100%. No need to put it in neutral

Advice n°1 : lighten your car (remove back seats, sound insulation, electric windows, glass windows…)

lol😆
Coasting actually makes the car less efficient
And more dangerous
