In the show it pretty much says that Krabs just hoards his money and has full blown meltdown if he has to pay a dollar for something. He's not materialistic in that he wants to buy things, he more of just wants to have the money in his name.
I would recommend you to watch "Skill Crane" from season 4, it's my favorite SpongeBob episode. The episode is about Mr. Krabs ordering a claw machine for the Krusty Krab.
If you watch the SpongeBob SquarePants movie you’ll notice he has a lot more employee of the month records that have been shown in episodes which to me proves that the movie takes place after the events of the entire show and I really hope you watch it because I do think it’s a good watch also if you do watch it you might notice it’s very similar to the odyssey which you could suggest to any teachers who want to do a comparison between literature and film.

On the other hand, Mr. Moesby (the manager) gave the award to Zack and Cody's mother (Carrie), who works as a lounge singer, because she was the only employee that wasn't annoying any of the guests or Moesby, even though she was sick.

I've seen all these episodes countless times but only as a kid. Now going back to them as an adult, I see that there are many jokes that I missed and I find myself laughing far more than I did as a child. It's such a magical thing.

I love how Squidward and Mr. Krabs joke with each other about the idea that Squidward would actually try to compete. The fact that they both know Squidward doesn't care and can have a good laugh about it together was always charming to me. I don't think they realized how much the joke would upset SpongeBob. I did like how when SpongeBob begs Squidward not to tell Mr. Krabs about the mess in the kitchen, Squidward clearly has no interest in telling on him, reiterating that he thinks the award is a scam. It's unfortunate that SpongeBob was too paranoid by that point to hear what he had to say. Truly, we can be our own worst enemy.
the thing about the "Extreme Close-Up" gag was that early on the grossest features the faces had were wrinkles and they were done sparingly, thus it was actually funny. in the later seasons when the show's quality started to tank (seasons 5-9), the gag was done more frequently, and the faces would have even more disgusting details, thus making the audience want to throw up. them zooming in on the faces was always a thing in the show. it's just that they were less disgusting back then then they are now.
In regard to your question about what Mr. Krabs spends his money on, I believe he only ever spends his money on his loved ones, Such as Pearl and Mrs. Puff. But for the most part, he makes money just to have it, not spend it. There's an episode about he and Plankton's origin story (I don't remember the name of the episode, sorry) where it shows that Krabs was very poor growing up. Once he figured out how to make money and get out of that situation, he became obsessed with always having money.
Squidward would sound like that Emo co-worker you would have talking all negative. Kids who grow up watching Spongebob would actually understand how they would feel as an adult stuck working a minimum wage job.
When I first saw the clock closet long ago I thought about my friend dad who sets like 5 alarms to force him to get up in the morning because he'd either ignore the first alarm or falls back asleep after stopping it.
I love SpongeBob and Squidward trying to out smug each other. In the early seasons, SpongeBob can be really nice and also naive and annoying, but he means well. But he had other personalities too, he can get quite annoyed too. Compared to later seasons where he is flanderized.
The most I have seen Mr. Krabs do with his money is either fawn over it, make little crafts out of it, or bathe in it. You can really see how he cares about the currency over buying product with episodes like "Safe Deposit Krabs," where he accidentally gets locked inside a bank vault

Despite the fact this episode is 11 episodes after "Help Wanted", it is implied SpongeBob SquarePants has been working for multiple years.
There’s the mystery of which order the episodes are in and even if an episode is canon or not.
Continuity is crazy.
To be fair, continuity has never been consistent with the series.
I’m thinking some episodes are weeks, months or even years apart from each other depending on the episode and season of the series.

Watching your reactions to early SpongeBob at night gives me the same feeling when I watched them before bed as a kid.
