Full Trip to JFK Airport from Astoria, Queens for $2.90 (Three Subways, One Bus, 2 AirTrains)

  • John F Kennedy International Airport is one of three major airports in the NYC Metropolitan Area. In this video, I show how you can get to JFK Airport for only $2.90. By no means is this the fastest option or the only option. It can get quite confusing where to go, and I even experienced long dwell times on the bus and a service change on the JFK AirTrain. The recommended method of public transportation from most travel websites and bloggers is to take the Long Island Railroad or the subway to the AirTrain JFK, but the method in this video saves some money over the other options. In total, it took me close to 2 hours to get to the airport.

    You go above and beyond to create these affordable public transportation videos, even when it's inconvenient for you to do so. 🏆 Uber/Lyft is not always reliable as drivers can cancel on your rides, so public transportation is another option, even if it take much longer to get to the airport. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing this informative video, AK! 🤗

    Everyone should understand that this route is specifically designed to avoid the outrageous fare that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey charges for the AirTrainJFK if you board or exit at Howard Beach or Jamaica. If you don’t mind paying the $8-plus then this trip can be made in much less time and with fewer transfers. Additionally, if you spring for a LIRR City ticket ($5?) you can travel in a higher level of comfort from New York Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal or Brooklyn’s Atlantic Terminal.

    • @ActionKid
      @ActionKid  6 месяцев назад

      Very good points! However, getting to the LIRR from my starting point is quite the journey and it is preferable to just stay on the subway going east through Queens.

    Here in Rio I have to take a bus and a BRT to the airport. But a traveler will probably have to take a BRT, a tram and a subway to the tourist area with hotels in the city. Many people complain, but I still think it's better than in the past when the city's two airports didn't have good public transport connections.

    I would do the exact same thing but I would actually take the 7 at Queensboro Plaza instead of going into Manhattan and back to Queens and get off at 74 St-Broadway then take the E. Why go out of your way to Manhattan and and take the R and transfer. Doesn’t make sense. If I traveled from my house, I would consider the F or R to Jay St and take it to Howard Beach since I currently live in Brooklyn

    • @ActionKid
      @ActionKid  6 месяцев назад +1

      That makes senses logistically but when hauling heavy luggage the cross-platform transfer to the R train at Lexington Avenue-59th Street and the E/F train at Queens Plaza is much easier to deal with!

    • @MTAFan585
      @MTAFan585 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@ActionKid If you did this trip again, I would recommend the W to Queensboro to the 7 then maybe go to Court Square and catch the E. Again overhauling the luggage is a pain instead of going out of the way to Manhattan and back to Queens. If I do decide to travel to JFK and go to Florida, I consider taking the R to Jay Street and then the A to Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd and take the Q10 to JFK.

      AirTrain is not free from Suphin Blvd. It’s $8.25 from Jamaica/Suphin Blvd LIRR/ J/Z and E train stop and Howard Beach A train stop. Free from the rental car facilities and throughout the airport terminal. While this method is cheaper it’s longer. But if you want to save money and allow time for travel it’s a good deal. Every travel scenario varies depending on where you originally depart.

    The other option would have been N/W to 7 train then F train to Q3 bus which terminates at terminal 8 JFK Airport then ask a Port Authority staffer which way to Terminal 1 because in some cases they will tell you to take the AirTrain terminal 8 to 1 or shuttle bus which means carrying the luggage onto the shuttle bus then unloading it on Terminal 1. However you cannot take the cart onto the shuttle bus only the AirTrain. Astoria to JFK Airport N/W to 7 then E/F to Q10 bus to Lefferts Boulevard air train station will you take the AirTrain towards terminal 8 then transfer to Terminal 1. Unless you are flying on China Airlines or Singapore Airlines towards MNL or TPE

      Yes, the E Train Goes to Sutphin Blvd/Archer Ave - JFK Station, but that would involve paying an extra fee of $8.25 for the AirTrain at Jamaica. I could also take the second route you mentioned, but it involves a lot more stairs, elevators & walking at the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street - Broadway subway complex which can be inconvenient with luggage.
