I believe Lumbridge's titular bridge is extra long in this game as a reference to Stampot Bridge.
Stampot Bridge is an inside joke within the community in which everyone agrees that they should add a needlessly long bridge that crosses the entire ocean for the sole purpose of players to run through and increase the demand for stamina potions.
"Inside joke" No, it is a legitimate demand.

I suspect the lack of orginal names for the cow evolutions, just as an example, is partly due to the game being incompatible. Either that or it is just part of the humor of it

As someone with only tangential knowledge of Runescape I certainly did not expect what this game is. hahaha. I assume the references are the greatest selling point, but otherwise it just look needlessly confusing (specially with the unclear evolutions/typings/weirdmons), but kudos to the people behind the project because you can see how much work was put into it.
My favorite pokémon romhack was BlazeBlack/VoltWhite (+ their sequels and other hacks by the same dev) that rebalance stuff from the games and make it more challenging and better balanced overall. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to try something different.
