CLC-650SM-CE VS Solid Wood - Grand concert style

  • CLC-650SM-CE sits in the sweet spot between portability and rich acoustic tone. Crafted from African mahogany, its Grand Concert body gives you a more manageable sonic footprint than its bigger Dreadnought or Jumbo cousins with fewer overtones and less weight in the bass range, yet with plenty of body and presence that ensures your playing will sit well in any studio or live mix. It’s designed for excellent handling during your performance, too, with a Venetian cutaway for great higher fret access and a sculpted arm rest for comfort. Rounding off its impressive credentials as a gigging guitar is the high-quality Fishman pickup system with integrated tuner.
    The guitar is a full solid custom line series western guitar, grand concert style w/ venetian cutaway, selected solid a-grade african mahogany body (khaya Ivorensis) w/arm rest, scalloped x-bracing, okoume (aucoumea klaineana,)c-shape neck, dovetailneck joint, composite fingerboard, 400 mm fingerboard radius, wooden neck and body bindings, 6 mm mother of pearl dots inlays, 643 mm scale, 43 mm nut-width, 20 frets, abalone rosette, composite bridge, bone saddle & nut, split rhombus mother of pearl headstock inlay, 400 mm double-action trussrod, bridge pins with mother of pearl dots, wsc dlx closed gear tuners, Fishman flex plus-t pickup system with integrated tuner, stock strings: .012 - .053 strings, finish ultra hi-gloss vintage sunburst top, fitting case (not included): 122212

    Please note that the Model of this guitar is CLC-650SM-CE VS Solid Wood(Grand Concert)... Not the CLG-650SM-CE VS SolidWood (which is the Grand auditorium)
    Sorry for the typo!!!
    all appointments are the same except the size and Model number.
    also note that on 13:11 the guitar i was talking about was not all mahogany...it has a spruce top. Sorry!😜

    I bought this guitar a couple of years ago because of the "look", it's beautiful! Acoustically it plays and sounds great to me. That is also what i bought it for, not electric. I found the electronics to be wanting, i could never get good electric sound. I also could never find a battery compartment. So i hope the battery never dies. But all that said, i love this guitar. It's one of my favorites in my collection. Thanks for your review.

    Hi Jonathan, what a beautiful piece of music is your Salvation. I like the way you plays it with tons of feeling. About that guitar, it is so beautiful . And tonewise , it is very good in your Salvation piece, may be missing some lows in the other parts of demo, but as you said being all solid we may expect better lows after few year of playing. I never found any acoustic amp that pleases my ears, this one make no exception. Now , the big question is what to choose between this HB and a Maestro: is the better tone worth the price gap ? I may need an all solid mahogany beside my Martin D35 ( christmas coming, haha)

  • @DarraghC
    @DarraghC 3 года назад +2

    Nice Guitar, sounds and looks good. Never a fan of super low action on an acoustic guitar though. i think its done to accommodate all these electric guitar players who want to come over to the real side of guitar playing :) I recently purchased the Harley Benton cla 28 ve walnut acoustic guitar. Have to say, its a great guitar. HB do make a nice acoustic. Hats off to them.

  • @Lunytunes62
    @Lunytunes62 2 года назад +1

    I really needed this beautiful review too. This video made me decide to get this guitar, my second HB. I had to wait two months before I could order because they were out of stock again.
    My CLC-650SM is beautiful and flawless. Compared to my dreadnought the sound is more subdued, more intimate I guess. It must be the solid mahogany body instead of walnut.
    There's one drawback. You have to restring the guitar everytime you need to change the battery through the sound-hole. Quite a hassle. Thanks to you I learned that brands like Maestro and Schecter make stunning guitars. I get it that Maestro's are expensive but man look at them.., they are gorgeous. I refuse to pay a ridiculous € 7840,00 for an ordinary 2018 plain Jane Martin guitar.

      Just a pro tip for you. You don't have to change strings when you need to access the sound hole. All you have to do is put a capo on the third fret, then you can detune and the strings will stay on the posts. You can then pull out the bride pins and get the strings out of the way. Then put them back and tune back up. It takes not time at all. All you need is a capo.

    So the main difference between this and the CLG is the size/format? Not too familiar with the different formats of acoustic guitar since I've only owned the one. If I want something similar to my Yamaha FGX720SC which one should I get? I'm thinking of replacing it with one of these Harley Bentons since I really would like that cutaway for my arm/elbow, so used to it on my electric guitars and it just makes the playing so much more comfortable!

    Hello Jonathan! I have been looking at this guitar. The one thing that worried me, is the bridge where the string pegs go. I watched a guitar video about this guitar. Two of the pegs had a tendency to pull up. The explanation was the bridge where the pegs go was thinned out for aesthetics I guess. This changed the angle of the string as it went over the bridge which made it prone to pulling up on the pegs. The worst part is the wood is too thin because of the way the bridge is cut, and the peg hole gets elongated due to string stress. I saw this and am at a loss at how to repair it. I'm going back to HB to see if hopefully they have re designed the bridge. Because I like the guitar. I just want to like it for a long time.

    Although the specs are impressive and the guitar looks beautiful, I would really like to see how it holds up against a Takamine GN71CE. I believe its a worthwhile comparison since the price range is similar, the shape of the body, etc... I would like to know the differences in quality. Very nice videos by the way, greetings from Greece!

  • @DrAgan_tortojed
    @DrAgan_tortojed 3 года назад +1

    Very nice looking, very nice sounding - just like you've said ("warm AND bright at the same time", exactly what I too experienced with "all-mahogany" guitars). The only downside is its price, because in the 400-500 $ range there is a strong competition comprising of brand names such Alvarez, Ibanez, Yamaha..., so I don't think this model will be selling like a hot pancakes (which was /is the case with the lower price range HB guitars, up to, say CLA/CLD series). As for the price, the electronics probably makes up to 30% of It, so it would be nice to be able to purchase the version of this model that isn't equipped with the pick-up system while selling for 250-300 $ (anyways, I prefer passive piezo systems over these battery hungry ones, and where I live, a decent copy of K&K's 3-tranducer costs about 10 $).

    Hey man. GREAT video. You've earned a subscriber. Im in Germany and looking to purchase a guitar.
    Im thinking orange wood Ava w/o pickups or this one. Both are all solid wood guitars. Any advice or opinion? HB is 200 dollars cheaper. Lol

    Hai Jon thx for this review. I have an Harley Benton Custom line king which you also had reviewed. How does this clc 650 sounds in comparison with the Custom line king? Is it sounds warmer or brighter? What is your experience? Thx in advance if you want to answer me 👍

    Hi jonathon. love the Chanel. You have me hooked on Harley Benton however the Artists electric guitars look very impressive as well. I was planning to get the Harley Benton Custom Line CLD 41SE WN until I watched this review... and now I have a conundrum and its all your fault ..lol jus kidding. But I would like to know which you really like the best. the clc is very impressive but I love the dreadnought also. Your such a master musician and your true opinion on this will help me decide. Hope to here from you. Jonathon Harrison alabama usa

    Hey Jon I've been checking out this guitar. Do you mean the fretboard is made of composite wood or something like Richlite? Thanks!

      It would look even better with that plastic pick guard removed. It covers up the natural wood and the abalone rosette. I'm getting this guitar next month and that's the first thing I'll do!
