Bei diesem edlen Teil handelt es sich um das seit 1965 produzierte Jagdmesser, welches nicht nur bei den Großwildjägern Afrikas, sondern auch in der Bushcrafter-szene und bei den ehemaligen deutschen Fernspähern und Piloten bekannt und eventuell sogar beliebt ist. Darüber hinaus erhielt es seinen Ruf auch, durch die Veröffentlichung eines recht bekannten Filmes, nämlich Karl Mays Winnetou. So ist dieses Messer der treue Begleiter von Old Shatterhand, verkörpert durch Lex Barker.
Neben dieser "Version" kennt man es aber auch als "Automesser" oder Pilotenmesser.
Die Fertigung findet vollumfänglich in Solingen statt. Es handelt sich nicht um eine ausgelagerte Produktion, auch nicht in Teilen. So versicherte mir es ein Puma Mitarbeiter, auf meine Nachfrage per Mail. Darin wurde mir erklärt, dass es zu 100% in Solingen gefertigt wird und nach wie vor das Flaggschiff Pumas darstelle. Man erwähnte mir gegenüber auch, das man stolz sei, dieses edle Produkt fertigen zu dürfen.

Bei meinem Exemplar handelt es sich um die Version mit Hirschhorn. Es gibt dies Messer auch mit Büffelhorn oder Griffschalen aus Oryx.
Mit seinen nackten 282g (361g mit Scheide), ist es wahrlich kein Leichtgewicht für ein Messer mit 272mm Gesamtlänge. Die Klingenlänge beträgt dabei 157,1mm und eine Stärke von 5,88mm.
Die Maße des Griffes können je nach Art und Weise der Grundmaterialien (Hornarten) variieren. So ist der Griff meines Messers an der dicksten Stelle (ohne Nieten) 24,72mm breit. Zum Material der Nieten kann ich nur sagen, dass es sich um Stahlnieten handelt, welche von einer Hülse aus einer Messinglegierung umgeben sind. Der Stahl der Klinge wird aus 1.4116 gefertigt und trägt den berühmten Aufkleber, welcher die individuelle Härteprüfung jedes einzelnen Messers zeigt. So soll diese zwischen 55 und 57 HRC liegen.
Die kleine Sägezahnung, wohl als Knochensäge oder bei der Pilotenvariante als Alu- und Glassäge gedacht, ist recht bissig und greift Material sofort und gut.
Die Schärfe ab Werk, könnte etwas besser sein aber eventuell sind da meine Ansprüche etwas höher gesetzt, als nötig.
Preislich liegt es bei stolzen 320€. Jedoch konnte ich keinerlei Mängel feststellen.
Bei allen gezeigten Gegenständen in allen meinen Videos handelt es sich um eine unbezahlte Dauerwerbung. Für mich ergeben sich daraus keine geldwerten Vorteile.

This noble piece is the hunting knife that has been produced since 1965 and is known and perhaps even popular not only among big game hunters in Africa, but also in the bushcraft scene and among former German long-distance scouts and pilots. In addition, it also gained its reputation through the release of a fairly well-known film, namely Karl May's Winnetou. This knife is the faithful companion of Old Shatterhand, embodied by Lex Barker.
In addition to this "version" it is also known as a "car knife" or pilot's knife.
Production takes place entirely in Solingen. It is not an outsourced production, not even in parts. This is what a Puma employee assured me when I asked via email. It explained to me that it is 100% manufactured in Solingen and is still the flagship of Pumas. They also mentioned to me that they were proud to be able to produce this noble product.

My copy is the version with deer horn. This knife is also available with buffalo horn or oryx handles.
At a mere 282g (361g with sheath), it is certainly not a lightweight for a knife with a total length of 272mm. The blade length is 157.1mm and a thickness of 5.88mm.
The dimensions of the handle can vary depending on the type of base materials (types of horn). The handle of my knife is 24.72mm wide at its thickest point (without rivets). All I can say about the material of the rivets is that they are steel rivets, which are surrounded by a sleeve made of a brass alloy. The steel of the blade is made from 1.4116 and bears the famous sticker, which shows the individual hardness test of each individual knife. This should be between 55 and 57 HRC.
The small sawtooth, probably intended as a bone saw or, in the pilot version, as an aluminum and glass saw, is quite snappy and grabs material immediately and well.
The sharpness out of the box could be a little better, but my standards may be a little higher than necessary.
The price is a proud €320. However, I couldn't find any defects.

For years I've owned this knife and had no idea anyone else even knew what it was. Then I watch one video here about it and now I understand that this is a world famous knife with a great deal of history attached! I'm proud as I've always loved this knife, worn it on my belt through many adventures EDIT I must clarify that I watched one video but then youtube recommended many many videos about the same knife after that (including this one) and so I have learned it is a very popular knife with a great reputation - I had no idea before

Gehegt, gepflegt und natürlich ausgiebig benutzt.
Damals so um die 180 DM 😂😂😂
Der Preisunterschied ist schon spürbar. Aber dennoch ist es sein Geld wert. Ich habe viele Messer verschiedener Hersteller. Und dieses ist eines, mit dem ich am zufriedensten bin.

Das PUMA "WHITE HUNTER" ist ein ganz hervorragendes Arbeitsmesser für "Revier" und "outdoor"!
Ich besitze meinen "HUNTER" schon seit Anfang der 1980er Jahre.
Bei sachgemäßem Einsatz und ein wenig Pflege hält dieses Messer ein Leben lang.

Damit reibe ich den Hirschhorn-Griff regelmäßig ab, genauso die Leder-Scheide.

@@la_grenouille_de_la_valleeTheo, na klar kenne ich Ballistol. Ich habe mich nur nicht getraut dies zu verwenden, weil Ballistol Messing angreift.
Die Lager gehen da auseinander. Die eine Seite schwört drauf, die Anderen wiedersprechen.
Mein Bruder meinte das Lebensmittelöl von Ballistol würde Messing nicht angreifen.
Ich denke den Unterschied macht es aus, dass man es regelmäßig nutzt und nicht nur herumliegen lässt.

Hallo Mike!
In der Tat bekommen die Messingnieten des Griffs vom BALISTOL-Öl eine "Patina" aber wenn das Messer regelmäßig benutzt wird, ist es nicht so schlimm.
Wenn sich doch mal etwas "Grünspan" bildet einfach mit einer in BALISTOL-Öl getränkten Zahnbürste die Nieten abbürsten.
Wenn du dein Messer sammeln willst, und es immer im "Neu-Zustand" bewahren willst, dann ist BALISTOL-Öl vielleicht nicht die erste Wahl.
Dann würde ich es mal mit "Baby-Öl" versuchen.

Ich hatte mal was über Laguiole-Messer gelesen. Da hieß es, dass der beste Rostschutz der sei, dass Messer zu benutzen. Dies mag wohl auch für alle anderen Materialien passen. Bei meinem Bushlore, das einzige Messer welches ich wirklich nutzte, habe ich gemerkt, dass der Griff etwas schmandig durch die Hand, den Schweiß und das Fett vom Essen wurde.
Für Leder ist das ja auch gut.
Aber mein Hunter möchte ich vorerst nicht benutzen. Das liegt unterm Kopfkissen, bei meinen anderen Spielzeugen. Also muss ich es eventuell auch nicht konservieren?
Ich hatte mal einen Jagdnicker von Puma. Der wurde mit Ballistol gepflegt. Und der Grünspan blühte fürchterlich. Auch meine Messertaschen mit Nickeldruckknöpfen...das ist echt mies. Da muss ich alle jubel Woche viel wegputzen.
Ich danke aber artigst für deinen Rat und schaue mal wie es sich entwickelt.

Извините, но решился как то пояснить своё отношение к ножам под маркой Пума. Это возрожденное по мере возможностей наследие Золинген. Мой отец купил бритву Золинген-отдал за неё месячный оклад офицера. Это было в Германии, после войны. Вот пример оценки качества Золинген. Я до сих пор считаю, если цените традиции и качество, берите Пума. Хороший нож прослужит не одному поколению. Я, охотой занимаюсь с 12лет-сейчас мне 69!! Так что о ножах понимаю очень хорошо. В различных условиях Севера и гор Тянь Шаня. Может вам более широко освещать продукцию Пума. Мне кажется сечас найдётся не мало заинтересованных людей. Вам, спасибо!!!

Yeah, i like it a lot. The serrations are for bones, you can possibly grind it down, but than you have a much smaller waist. Like a waidblatt.

I cant understand that ridiculous lashing method or why a nife that expensive has an aluminum guard.

First i had the same thoughts about these points but maybe the answer is as simple as their construction.
I think that the guard is from aluminum because of the weight reduce. The balancing point would be much different when they would take steel or new silver or something heavy.
One of the main functions is choping.
That the lashing method is like it is simply a cheap method to prevent the knife from wobbling around when you wear it on your belt. I by myself cant like that. Sure they could have made another strap with a snap but thats question is to hard for me to find out.
But, i will took your question to puma and ask them that. And when i have an answer i will write it to you!

Maybe you don't like the appearance or you don't know its actual use, it's ok but you can't justify it as a bad knife, it's in production from 1956, Isn't it long time for a bad product ?
