      I think there's some disconnect here, either on my side or yours. $250-300 is affordable? What economy are you in? I guess it might be affordable for high end, custom knives but $250 isn't exactly what I think most would define as affordable

    The designs, fit, and finish of Lionsteel knives are awesome. I paired the M7 with my Benchmade Bushcrafter which I've carried for years. Otherwise I'd go with either the M4 or M5 as a companion to the M7. You really can't go wrong with any of the Lionsteel knives. Thanks for the rundown on the T6.

  • @Cid_1

    Many of the Lionsteel knives without the coatings cans still throw sparks even with the crowned spine. Just have to tilt the knife a little and hit it just below the crowning. Give it a go and see if you can do it. If it scrapes decent make a short on it. Cause I don't think many are aware of this, since when people see a crowned spine they are thinking fire steel is out of the picture. But with Lionsteel they usually have a angle below the crowning so Firesteel works. If not you always have that butt end, but I would hold the knife still and move the Ferro rod and not the knife, for more control on where the sparks go. Keep up the great work.

    • @stalwart263
      @stalwart263 10 месяцев назад +5

      I just don’t get the obsession with throwing sparks with a knife. Just attach strikers to your ferro rods. Use the right tool for the right job.

      @@stalwart263 because it's so Rambo, I agree, i keep an in one fire steel in a water tight bag inside another water tight bag with some cotton buds and my hand plane shavings for those really wet times where everything is sodden. Makes a big difference and takes up no space. A cheap jack plane (one handed) is small enough too to sit in a pack and is amazing for producing small upto large ribbons for easy ignition, well worth considering 👍

    I got the M7, love the finger choil that makes the knife more useable, steel is easier to sharpen, put my own polished edge on it, mounted a tek lok and I've turned it into my EDC! Easy to mount a 'kit' altoids tin to it, small flashlight, extra battery, and ferro rod. In other areas I carry a couple folders and a smaller fixed blade (TRC South Pole) for smaller tasks with premium elmax steel.

    I love all three and use them for different tasks. If you only get one (a disturbing thought) and need a chopper/brute, I'd go with the M7. It's the one that fits a wide range for me and handles so well that other large knives just don't even come close in terms of comfort, ease and balance. I have the small camp/bushcraft knife already dialed in. For me, it's a toss-up between the T5 and a Reiff F4. Life is good! But, if you have a chopper, the T5 is amazing and will serve you well.

    G'day Aaron, what I especially like is the 3 different designs and steels for each size. Personally I'd go with the 7 for a day hike or overnighter, paired with a 4 incher of some description and leaving a hatchet or machete behind. And the 5 or 6 deeper into the wilderness paired with a said hatchet or machete. In either case a saw will come along too.
    I reckon the further out you go, the more prepared you need to be with a larger primary and a proportionately competent back up, regardless of weight.
    These aint particularly inexpensive, but all things considered fair enough I'd say.
    Thanks for the vid mate, I really enjoyed the look in use and comparison across the range. Cheers Duke.

      The SH is a great blade and lighter and faster for stabbing, but the steel, and ergos of the lionsteel are better for camping and survival.

    For me, it’s Lionsteel versus Cold Steel.
    I’m thinking: magnum tanto in 3V, or a large Bowie, the 1917 Frontier, Wild West, etc.

    The M7 has been on my 'to buy' list for a couple of years. I just can't spend the money on it considering it isn't giving me anything more than knives I already own. Saying that the T6 might be a better option.

  • @johnmuthan286
    @johnmuthan286 9 месяцев назад +3

    You should try Saturn knives!
    Same designer Mik Molleta, same quality, built by Lionsteel, but fantastic tools, I would say better.
    The Titano is a T6 competitor while the Mimas is a M5 strong contender.
    You should really try them.

    Another thorough review. Interesting that you place this higher than a ZT. Duely noted! I think it's time to ask you for a top choice survival video soon. You're backpacking for one week, one knife! 👊

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  10 месяцев назад +2

      The ZT is a combat knife first, but excellent in the outdoors too. This knife will easily outclass it in chopping as well as in overall ergonomics.

    I scored one of these at this year's Blade Show in Atlanta. I love this knife. My only gripe is also the lack of a 90 degree spine, but the butt of the knife is usable on a ferro rod. Besides, which of us watching this channel carries only ONE knife? LOL

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@gideonstactical to steal a line from you, "it ticks all my boxes" ... Not too big, not too small, 3V (which I LOVE), GREAT sheath, feels awesome in the hand. Were you at Blade this year? Would love to have shook your hand, even though you have cost me a ton of money from watching your reviews... LOL 😉

    • @TheSpoovy

      I finally moved on from the whole idea of using the spine (or any part of the knife) on a ferro rod. I don't know why it became such a normal thing to do. I always have a scraper with me now plus a spare, they weigh nothing after all. They're so much more efficient and accurate to use, so you can remove less of the material. And smooth spines are so much nicer on a knife!
