Damn you really fell off huh
Classical guitarist: Pulls out sheet music
Rock guitarist: "What kind of tabs are those??"
"I'm sorry, just one second, just one second... What are you doing."
Jazz guitarist: That's a power chord. You wanna make that a minor 7 chord?
Rock guitarist: *Confused frustration intensifies*
Can you make a power chord major or minor? I know that it is the root and 5th and maybe an octave but how could you go from there to major or minor
I think power chord means it only contains the 'basic notes', so for example C E G, if you make this minor, it becomes C Eb G
If you add the 7th, which in this case can be either Bb, or B , it won't be a "power chord" anymore (i think)
You can add the 9th, D or D# for more color, and you can call it a 'basic' jazz chord now
If you see Cm79, that means: C Eb G B D
@@infinitespinergy1220 That would be a Cmin9(#7). And yes, power chords are only roots and fifths.
@@caleb428 Power chords usually only use at most 3 strings, so you can just add in the minor or major third on one of the muted strings to make it a minor or major chord. You can't make a major/minor power chord though, that's a contradiction.
Make it a minor 7flat 5 and then play Em9/13

Same~ even after years in music school studying guitar I'm still pretty dang bad at theory, although I'm very confident at playing literally anything. Not something I'm super proud of though because theory is indeed important to us musicians in many ways. But in the end, the sound that's coming outta ur instrument/voice is what matters.
