Jane this shame is global. It , I think relates to the media . This music just is not marketed. Therefore it is known only to the small group of inquisitive listeners. The fact remains that there are only 2 kinds of music. Good and bad . Thank you . Peter
Another gem from this great orchestra and the versatile vocalist Matt Ford. Good to see how much the players show their enjoyment as does John Wilson. A real foot-tapper for the rest of us.
I find myself watching and listening to this perfectly outstanding music each evening. John Wilson and his dedicated and gifted orchestra stir the soul with each selection👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
We have seen this Orchestra live many times, sadly no more as JW has now moved on to the Sinfonia of London, we went to see them play last November. Quite a number of the Musicians are the same. Someone else to look out for is Callum Au, he is an arranger/composer/trombonist and has played for John Wilson. Have a look at this link, you may notice some musicians are the same as in the above orchestras ruclips.net/video/LeCPDW0Pobo/видео.htmlsi=G_fy-uBBESOH8mGp
This is one of the most poignant, heartbreaking songs ever written -- it's about alcoholism and where it takes you. I just don't see it as a big band swing number. It's not about gusto and the good life. It needs the haunting french horn at the beginning in the original version. Still and all, a great sound, though.
Absolutely. Even with all the deep thought Mancini put into the song. Nelson Riddle could somehow turn something so riddled with dark undertones into the complete opposite. Both men are Geniuses.
Inasmuch as the song is about the loss of love it is melancholy. On the other inasmuch as the speaker had in his life a love so wonderful there is reason for joy. So I don’t want to rule out the Sinatra approach to the song. Having said that I prefer Peggy Lee’s sadness tinged recording.
What ever happened to the America I once knew??? This type of music exactly reflects the spirit and culture we once had! Simply classy!

This jazzy cover is nice, but the Jackie Gleason chart expresses the true intention of the song. I recommend a listen...

Looking forward to seeing Matt.Ford in September all being well !!
Fabulous Riddle arrangement. Mr Sinatra himself would have been proud to perform with this orchestra!
Thank you and God bless AMERICA! Proud to be an American citizen!
Unmistakable Nelson Riddle arrangement. A swinging interpretation of a very melancholic song.
to the note...imitation is the greatest form of flattery

beautiful song and very good orchestra and singer
That's as good a rendition as I've heard. Great vocal and tremendous swinging orchestra.
Excellent performance / Its the Nelson Riddle arregment ( 1964 ) for Frank Sinatra

Is this registration available on DVD or Bluray or can it be streamed somewhere?
Shout out to Nelson Riddle who made it swing
Nelson Riddle was the greatest arranger used by Frank Sinatra.

Very good performance, but this is an intimate and tragic song, I don't think you can do a spectacular version like that.
was a tragic movie. jack lemmon was an alcoholic in real life.
Get up there and do better, why don't you?
@@susanp.collins7834 Henry Mancini had already done it

A curious mis-step by Mr. Sinatra for all the reasons you cite, but it is a great Nelson Riddle chart.

It's been said to never let the lyrics get in the way of a good groove. This is a good groove.
