Enlightenment - Druid II (c64) longplay

- Title music included, gameplay begins at 1:40
Due to YT frame rate limit the torch flashing effect at dark area shows either no torch at all or constant white.
This playthrough is nearly identical to my previous recording I did for Amiga version three years ago. Few differences with item picups and such. Much better and easier on Amiga. c64 version is really hard for such a short game.
Music: David M. Hanlon

The legendary Fairlight crack-intro tune! So this is where it's from!
and they ripped the font, too
For some odd reason, my first ever own C64 game was this classic. Had to pick between this one and a flight combat simulator game. The cover with the violet wizard shooting lightning out of his finger tips won. Great cover. I was maybe 7 years old, and my parents let me choose one game for our new system.
I remember the intro, the music, the "enlightenment" very clearly. Remember going through the manuals, very realistic and scary looking zombies, wizards and other creatures there. Very difficult game though and frustrating gameplay. But dat intro music, always imprinted in my memories.

Druid was also one of my first games.
The other 2 I got then were:
Brainstorm (also by Firebird)
and The Eidolon (Lucas Arts)
This game had a real atmosphere all of its own - more so than the original. And the title music is brilliant.
Druid II: Return of the epileptic seizure.
true i nearly had a seizure spell !!
Its crazy how you can see Peter Molyneux fingerprint in this game. The logo being black and white. The whole different spells for diferente situations. so cool
I came to listen to the game's OST, only to find it had no other music! At least the titlescreen is a banger
I think the speech was removed from the cracked version I played. Should've used original image instead. I bought this game back in the days, but never played it much on c64. Amiga version is much better although easier. Proud to say I've finished this on Amiga without saves and without a walkthrough. I agree, the coolest part of this game was just exploring and with friends controlling elementals.
[3:10] Watch out, epileptics!
Dude! You posted this game like a boss!
Damn... I miss the old C64 -___-
The games had something minimalistic and magic that can't be explained.
Akikosdream I completely agree. Sometimes the old school games were better than what they have out now.
irreplaceable
Forgot all about this game til I heard the title screen music. That stuff stays with you even after 30+ yrs. Not quite as good as the first but its good.
Woot! I just remembered how much I loved this game when I was a kid. I totally forgot about it.
Now I finally know where the Fairlight Intro Music is based on....
Thanks for that! Took me right back :)
i remember this game with great graphics, now see the reality my memories was wrong
graphics still look good
I only tried that one once myself and it was the Amiga version. It felt quite similar to Druid 1. Would be interesting to watch your progress.
So that's how the c64 version looks and sounds like - I use to have it on Amiga ☺
best SID tune ever !
Golem, Kraken, Phoenix and Wispe, was it? Great game!
The ZX Spectrum version was regrettably inferior to this one in more ways than just the graphics. Not only was the movement delayed, the spell that could remove poison was bugged. It just did not work, so the passage at 6:50 with poisonous mushrooms becomes very luck-based. Even Resurrection does not remove poison X(
Other than that, a very fun game once you figured out what the hell you are supposed to do.
Is this one also level-based or is it structured more like Zelda 1?
Not sure what you're asking. First part of the game is open world, where you can explore freely and collect the necessary items to reach the second part. Then it gets linear.
Maybe this game inspired Dungeon Explorer? hmm..
why was this one not ported onAmstrad?
Freeman.
You don't use the golem?
+Elias Dottemar AI doesn't control it well. It's fun when playing with friend controlling it.
3:06 Seizure Time!
Seizures didn't exist in the 80s.
The game music is probably more associated with :

not as good as the first, those zombies respawn far too soon.
This game looks TERRIBLE on the emulator!
