    I have watched allot of build video's and yours was the best I have seen. Simple and well explained. I thought I had to buy a ton of tooling to do what you just did in 24+ minutes. Thank You very much. I like my Stihl saws but OEM part are hard to get and they are expensive. I always try an aftermarket part first. I don't think I would do that with a crank but bearings yes. Great Job!!!

      Well shucks, thanks for the kind words.
      I did trim the video a bit, probably 45 mins total to do that bottom end.
      I do have some fancy tools but honestly I before I got serious about saws I did the work without specialty tools and although it may have taken me longer then the overall results were the same.
      Thanks for watching!!

    Love your video on disassembly of the bottom end. I have the case splitter now and have split the case on a MS362C and am going to install new crank and bearings. I have watched this video of yours many times. I hope you do a vid on complete assembly of a large Stihl saw soon as I did not take this aw apart, I received two of them in boxes, condemned. Thanks again for all your help.

    Hello Tinman. Well, today I went for it, heated the cases up to 325 and more and still had to pound out the old bearings, no luck installing them either, had to pound them both into place with the cases heated to 350 and the bearings in the freezer before install. On the video when you do it it looks so easy. I pray I have not damaged the bearings and that I have them properly placed in the case, now for the install of the crank. Wish my luck. Paul

    Best video I’ve seen on the takedown and rebuild. I did my first 046 a few days ago, and things didn’t go as well is I wanted. I purchased a new crankcase that came with the clutch side bearing installed from factory. When I knocked the crank in and pulled the block together I noticed the clutch side bearing had slid out slightly. I tapped the bearing back into place and proceeded. Not what I wanted to see! I tapped the bearing back down so the oil pump would go on. I’m still unsure exactly how to set the depth of that bearing. The pump does go on and touches slightly or almost touches the bearing. Can’t see it for sure, but crank was free when I put it all together. Still like to know why this happened!
    Thanks for a very well made video. I could tell by the way you were talking you knew what you were doing. Thanks you!

      I set the oil pump on the case then use that to set the depth of the bearing. I find thats the best way.

    Great video, ol harv sent me here great content, great job, I hff ave a serious question if you have time, I just completely rebuilt a 029super to a ms390, the rear handlebar antivibe bolt..I think the bushing or rubber crappdd out as I was screwing it in...brand new tank and went through INTO THE FUEL TANK, please tell me you have a magic/favorite epoxy that I could go inside there and seal it back up, if not soldering iron weld the screw hole protruding into my tank back up, if I have to buy a whole new tank I'm gonna totally loose my butt on this job and I really need this saw, need to ask harvey and Kinsey too I guess but any input would be great
    Thanks

    Do you not grease the crank bearings at all? Would they not last longer with grease like a wheel bearing? Thanks for the video it's very helpful. I am doing this on a 441 and it is my first saw.

    Tinman , I’ve put my 460 case back together just like the video . My crank was tight and I tapped it quite a bit . It centered some but doesn’t free wheel super smooth. It spins , I’m not sure the feel of what it should be . Any advise . My luck I’ll keep taping and break something

    • @tinmanssaws
      @tinmanssaws  6 месяцев назад +1

      Try using your case splitter to move the crank to the center. Then tap it a bit it should free up.
      If that doesn't work apply heat to the cases again and the tap it.
