All Yamaha MU units (50,80,90,100,128 and the 1000) have undocumented GS support. They disguise it as the TG300B mode. Later ROM versions such as the ones in the 1000EX and 2000EX did actually officially support Roland GS.

Yeah, but at least some of that is mentioned in the manual (e.g. TG300B mode uses MSB bank select instead of LSB). The PLG manual mentions nothing on that. I mean I'm also not really surprised that it works, knowing that there's compatibility in other deivces as well. S-YXG even supports it officially.

It will be interesting to see what you do with your new PLG XG board. A week ago I stumbled across those PLG100-XG SMF demo files, all four of them. I already have a few MU100R rack synths with various boards, plus the S-YXG VST plugin versions of XG, so maybe the plugins have the polyphonic feature as well?

Very likely it was my upload that you found. I uploaded them on archive dot org a week or two ago. Looked for years for these files. In the end just bought one that was on sale for a very reasonable price and grabbed the file from the included floppy.
I won't use the card much for production as it's basically a QY100 with less sounds but it does a good job for my passion for midi files. ;)

@@JayBmusic Yes it was on archive. Thank you for uploading them. I recently uploaded some SY55 / TG55 cards for someone, as they had done one specially for me. Passion for MIDI files you say? Well I found a big file with 600,000 and its mostly professional files and in all genres, including Yamaha and Roland stuff. Maybe I should stick this on archive at some point. I listen to a good MIDI in the same way I would a good audio CD of music....very intently and hearing the good programming details etc. I used to own a QY100 but these days I have a QS300 for that, which I found cheap in 2021 and replaced the screen and added a Gotek with the OLED display. Great keyboard.

If it's more recent MIDI files I'd also appreaciate that. Most of the stuff you find is from the 90s so anything 2000 or later will be good.

@EgoShredder I would love to see that upload!

@@kenzieprice6745 The 600,000 I tried to upload to the Internet Archive today, but it would not let me complete the upload and eventually just deleted the whole upload due to breaching their T&C apparently. Not sure why after checking their upload rules. I can not even mention the title of the file where I got it from, as RUclips just deletes my comment if I do. * EDIT: Got an email from them saying one file had a virus in, but I checked and on virustotal only one reported anything out of a list of 59 virus checking companies, so likely a false positive.

Hello, JayB! Could you please introduce this midi player on Mac which seems to be just midi player?

    • @JayBmusic

It's called qmidi. Simple, effective, does its job. But not free unfortunately.

@@JayBmusic Thank you for your reply. Yes, it seems to be good. I tried to use this for free period at first.
