Amen! The Brown Scapular is truly miraculous!! When I was returning to the Faith after many years, I was going on a flight with my son, and I had a feeling to take a Brown Scapular for myself and one for my son. Upon arrival the plane ran into a storm and almost crashed. When the storm was imminent, I told my son to hold the scapular in his hands and pray, I did the same myself, and the plane got out of the storm!! The plane could have easily been taken down by a wind shear--Our Lady helped us through, I'm thoroughly convinced of this!! God Bless!!

Very good. I like how you told it exactly how it is. My pet peeve is when some faithful, taken in by modernist ideas, try and explain away the promise of our Lady by claiming that one must do this or that. The problem is that by doing so, they are adding and taking away from Our Lady's words. We have to trust precisely what she said. She added the requirement about chastity for the second promise and not the first for a reason after all. This is not to say that people should be unchaste. But it means that the Scapular is a great act of mercy for the wearer, even if they have fallen deep into the state of sin - and the prayers of Our Lady might be all that can save them by that sacramental. In fact, many stories attest to this truth. But if someone attempts to wear it out of a false devotion, Divine Providence will likely find away to remove the Scapular before their death.
Hospitals usually don't respect or know faith. My Mom wore one her entire life yet the hospital removed it before she was called home. I imagine this happens often. No hospital trying to save someone will leave anything on looking at it as a source of potential bacteria.
@@americanwoman8947 I think it is possible to be preventative. For example you can have a document made to say that if the scapular is removed they have no consent to operate. There are many Catholics who have kept their scapulars on at hospitals. It is difficult in these times but not impossible.

I have been told by Carmelite nuns that in order to be worthy of the promises of the Brown Scapular, there is ABSOLUTELY only one time I am ever permitted to take it off and that is when I am bathing. Is this true?
This is a good question, which I hope someone will answer. I don't have the answer.
To be honest with you, I take the scapular off along with my other medals when I'm going to sleep at night, maybe I shouldn't do that maybe I should start wearing it even when I'm sleeping
I only take off my brown scapular for showers only.

Promises:
-Whoever dies clothed with the scapular shall not suffer eternal fire
-Blessed mother will deliver one from purgatory on the Saturday following one's death (if wearing the scapular)
Requirements:
1. Scapular made of wool

@@moonfire32 If you don't live a christian life, with confession, communion, prayer and so on, that's not going to help you very much: the scapular may simply burn when you are to die, if you have used it as an excuse to sin. Live a christian life in state of sanctifying grace and the brown scapular and you will be fine.

IIRC one had to abstain from meat on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
You must wear it over the shoulder so that one part hangs over your chest and the other side hangs over the back. Both parts cannot be carried in the front or the back, otherwise, the wearer runs the risk of not receiving the promise.
Where did you hear that from? I doubt that. The Scapular isnt a "LUCKY CHARM"

It most important to live a pious life whilst wearing it and not how you wear it, but around the neck as normal.

What if you have failed to be pure while wearing it but then have gone to confession. Are the promises still there if you are sorry and have gone to confession?
Mathew Joseph I don’t think that’s what Layz Beats meant. S/he said nothing about state of contrition of heart when going to confession. To me, that’s kind of implied that one would be contrite before going to confession.

If they cut off the brown scapular at the hospital before we die will that render the promises void? They did that with my Mother who always wore one. Hospitals often have no faith and just care for our body.

I bought my scapular online and had it blessed by my priest, is it valid?
You have to be enrolled in it by the priest. There’s a prayer/response between you and the priest and sprinkling of holy water on you. Just enrolled in July. I purchased mine from the Sisters of Mount Carmels website, but it was the only thing that hadn’t been blessed because it’s not a regular sacramental, but needs an enrollment. By enrolling you gain the privileges it offers and when the scapular breaks or needs replacing you can purchase a new one and not need to have it blessed or anything because you’re the one enrolled; not the scapular itself. Hope that helps 😊

Pray the Rosary daily. That takes the place of the Little Office for the laity.

No no no, I think you misunderstood. The *promise* of Our Lady is that you will be released from purgatory the Saturday after you die. The conditions for the promise are that you pray the entire office of Our Lady every day or abstain from meat on Wednesdays. But if you get permission from a priest he can replace that condition with praying the Rosary every day. The reason you would probably want to do this is that the Little Office isn't actually so little and takes a while to recite and if you are working it is difficult.

@Instaurare Omnia In Christo Okay, so this is a really important thing to understand if we are going to take this devotion seriously. You need to see the Brown Scapular as two devotions really. There is the wearing of the brown scapular (Given to Simon Stock) and then there is obtaining the Sabbatine Privilege (The promise that we will avoid Purgatory). The Brown Scapular devotion is to wear the Brown Scapular as a sign of your devotion. This has been confirmed by the Church. But what has *also* been approved by the Church by multiple Popes is the obtaining of the Sabbatine Privilege by doing certain things. The Holy Office basically sums up all of the decrees by the Popes as this...
"It is permitted to the Carmelite Fathers to preach that the Christian people may piously believe in the help which the souls of brothers and members, who have departed this life in charity, have worn in life the scapular, have ever observed chastity, have recited the Little Hours [of the Blessed Virgin], or, if they cannot read, have observed the fast days of the Church, and have abstained from flesh meat on Wednesdays and Saturdays (except when Christmas falls on such days), may derive after death - especially on Saturdays, the day consecrated by the Church to the Blessed Virgin - through the unceasing intercession of Mary, her pious petitions, her merits, and her special protection. "

For this devotion, you really want to rely on our Church and our Popes. In addition, rely on Our Lady of Fatima who stresses the importance of both praying the Rosary and wearing the Brown Scapular, this is why priests will let you pray the Rosary instead of the Little Office. But yes indeed, you do need to do the devotions to obtain the Sabbatine Privilege. This doesn't mean that just wearing the Scapular isn't good, but if you want to privilege, the Church says to do the devotions.

You can usually make a phone appointment with one very easily. Call your closest traditional parish, even if it's far away, and ask for a phone appointment. Many of them you can email your question to as well.

Who is this Priest?
Does anyone have a reputable resource for the rubrics for reciting the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary? I've done some poking around online but I have no way of knowing if the info I am finding is accurate. If i knew of a particular religious order that recited it I would be happy to reach out to them but it is my understanding that the Divine Office has taken the place of the Little Office in most religious communities.
There are many good books on the LOBVM. Baronius Press sells a good version of the LOBVM which "adheres to the Editio Typica of the 1961 Breviary". This book like many others won't teach you the rubrics. Boston Catholic Journal provides a good place to start and they recommend the Baronius book: www.boston-catholic-journal.com/little-office-of-the-blessed-virgin-mary.htm. The Divinum Officium web page has an excellent resource at divinumofficium.com/cgi-bin/horas/officium.pl. As it knows the date it automatically compiles the prayers. This saves some work as you won't have to flip around the book for the correct variant of the office according to the liturgical calendar.
Daily Roman Missal has it. Also, priests have a Book of Blessings that has the ritual.

Chaste is not so much Celibate, but adhering to marital chastity, fasting from it during Lent as well as other practices.
Okay so Paul said that even if an angel came preaching a different gospel not to believe it. the Gospel of Jesus Christ said God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life. and whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. This seems to be saying that whosoever where's the brown scapular and does not eat meat on Wednesdays will be saved. That sounds like a completely different gospel to me. I think that we should be very careful and keep our trust in Jesus Christ and not in anything else.
Tea Kay , I see your concern and it is valid, but you don’t understand Catholic spirituality. Everything points to Christ, especially his mother, remember at the wedding feast at canna, she said do whatever He tells you to the servants. Also all the dogmas of the blessed Virgin Mary point to Christ’s divinity, as the second person of the Trinity. Also Jesus gave her to all of us at the cross when he said... Woman behold your son, and to John son, behold your mother, and from that hour he took her into his HOME.
As it's not a superstition, other devotions ought to allow for the same grace.
I described this to my children as being like a marriage and the rings. The enrollment is like the vows and the blessings of marriage and the ring is the sign, but Mary has asked us to wear this sign at the time of death and always so we must do this. Her reason is reason enough for me.
