I don't quite love Migizi as much as Toonami and I still am very questioning on the decision to replace Toonami with it way back in 2004. But I think it was was still a good action block and very underrated.
Miguzi was my shit growing up! I watched it faithfully after school and I loved every day of it 😊 I miss those good old days and wish I was a kid again :(
Miguzi wasn't that bad, the main reason Miguzi gets a bad rep is BC it replaced toonami on the weekdays. The block had good programing like code lyoko, totally spies, winks club, ect
I remember watching miguzi everyday after school it was definitely not as good as toonami but it was a cool block when they aired Robotboy and codename knd on their and it would be interesting if miguzi became its own channel
Miguzi was a great block, one of the best blocks Cartoon Network has ever had. My top favorite shows that aired on Miguzi were Totally Spies, Code Lyoko, Teen Titans, and TMNT 2003.
This is the oldest Cartoon Network block I actually remember watching! I also remember when they had the show schedule with the grey cement wall background.
Code Lyoko is great! I haven't watched it in ages, but I assume I'd still enjoy it 15 years later. I have one of the Code Lyoko volumes on DVD, but I haven't used those in a while either.
I remember growing up with the original daytime version of Toonami prior to it being replaced by Miguzi, and Miguzi was... well, it barely remember it in comparison to how fondly I remembered the cool robot in a spaceship voiced by Steve Blum. Yeah, I have more nostalgia for Toonami than I do Miguzi, even after it moved to Saturdays. In all fairness though, Miguzi was doomed from it's conception. The thing about Miguzi that was likely the reason few people remember it was it's selection of programming, being that 90% of it's programming was all shows that were either already airing on Cartoon Network in different time slots (like Totally Spies and Teen Titans) or were from other networks entirely (like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), while Toonami's programming was 80% exclusive to that block, both before and after it's move to Saturday nights. Literally the ONLY show that was exclusive to Miguzi was Code Lyoko, which is likely the only show anyone remembers from Miguzi because it wasn't a show from another network or already airing in another time-slot. Honestly, I think Miguzi would have done better and would have been remembered more if it had more exclusive programming, rather than just being a depository for shows that were already airing in other time slots. Toonami was successful because of it's exclusive lineup of programming, since it was the only time of the day where you could watch Dragon Ball Z, Gundam, or other anime, while something like Teen Titans could be watched at any other time on the network, especially considering that beyond Code Lyoko, Miguzi almost NEVER aired new episodes, it was 90% reruns. If anything, this is what led to Miguzi's downfall. Also, what does the word "Miguzi" even mean? "Toonami" was obviously a word play on "toon" and "tsunami", the latter word being Japanese in origin, which is fitting given how much anime played on the network. "Miguzi" does sound very Japanese in origin when you say it... until I remembered that it would be pronounced "Miguji" as there's no syllable character for "zi" in Japanese, but instead it's pronounced "ji", so... yeah, it's a word they most likely made up.
Great points. I honestly have no idea where the name comes from either. The only similar word that comes to my mind is 'jacuzzi'. It could've been a name that was merely developed out of randomness, but there's a chance that it has meaning.
@MonstersReview It wasn't just the lack of original programming beyond Code Lyoko and over-reliance on reruns that killed Miguzi, the block also had some stiff competition, not just with Toonami on Saturdays, but Toon Disney's Jetix block was going on around the same time. Unlike Miguzi, Jetix at least had original, exclusive programming, which not only included original shows like Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go and Yin Yang Yo, but also re-aired older action/adventure shows that the parents and older siblings of the target demographic likely watched such as the older seasons of Power Rangers and Digimon, along with their newer, current seasons. Jetix also lasted 3 years longer than Miguzi did, and outlived both it and Toonami, which shows you how much successful the block was. Of course, in the case of Miguzi, Toonami, and Jetix, all three of the blocks were killed because of a regime change at their respective networks. Jetix was killed when Toon Disney was rebranded into Disney XD, with the network going in a different direction to appeal more to teenagers, and we all know what happened to Cartoon Network after Toonami ended, considering CN also had a change in it's CEO to the controversial Stuart Snyder, who wanted to take the network in a different direction. Honestly, I miss both Toonami (the original, non Adult Swim one) and Jetix, though I couldn't say the same for Miguzi beyond Code Lyoko. Doesn't help the networks have a massive bias towards action/adventure cartoons and instead favor goofy, quirky comedies, which is why I barely watch TV anymore.
Funny because I only associate Miguzi with Code Lyoko... People remember it because it was different from other stuff and overall a good show. But yeah they didn't need Miguzi if they were gonna add stuff from their own catalog 🤦🏽♀️
Miguzi was alright, but I remember in school it was seen more like the Disney Junior of Toonami. This was because most of the programming was either made for younger audiences or censored for younger audiences. On the other hand Toonami showed Batman the animated series, Both justice league shows, Teen Titans, Naruto, DBZ, and Gundam all which where barely censored.
This unlocked a memory I didn’t know I had. I totally remember watching Code Lyoko, Totally Spies, TMNT, and Teen Titans, but I COMPLETELY forgot it was part of Miguzi!! This always made me happy when I got home from school!
To me I thought Miguzi was pretty good block I do have more memories of Miguzi during the city era than toonami because I wasn't home during the toonami Saturday night block I think it was hugely better than fried dynamite and har har thursdays i got into zatch bell! and code lyoko and vice versa on Miguzi I did watch some toonami in like 2005 but more of not watching toonami.
Ah, I remember Miguzi. I didn't know it took over Toonami initially, as I wasn't old enough (or had cable until around the City era), but I remember I was sucked into the block because it gave me my initial love for series like Code Lyoko and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
I remember Miguzi so vividly. Never knew the name of it tho so kid me called it Day-Toonami. This block has some gems tho. Yugioh GX, Totally Spies, Code Lyoko, Xiaolin Showdown, KND, whew the nostalgia
Watching code lyoko on CN was some of the best memories of my life. It’s hard to believe ‘06 & ‘07 were years cause I could remember that time period like it was just yesterday. Maybe because it was yesterday :O Yknow?
I remember violently rejecting the end of Toonami and its replacement with this block, but I did still like some shows from it (mostly 2000s TMNT), and I did begrudgingly admit that the aqua lair was really cool too even if I missed Tom2/ Tom 3, and his ship, and Sara.
I completely forgot about this set, I very vaguely remember the group of monster/alien thing but I mean very vaguely. I was like 6 with it started but it seems their line up was amazing so I bet I liked it.
I think miguzi was fantastic and was a nostalgic icon in the 2000’s because to be honest if you take a block and put good shows in it, logically everyone should want to watch it.
I was so upset when Miguzi replaces Toonami. Everyday I would get home from school and wait for dragon ball to come on. After Miguzi started, I watched some Code lyoko and then just kind of quit watching Cartoon Network.
What time was toonami on back then. If I remember correctly when I watched CN it came after miguzi. Even after that toonami was at least 4 hours long. I liked miguzi though mostly because of teen titans, pokemon advanced battle, tmnt.

I was the one who is doing that making a new monster for miguzi on Cartoon Network because I know how cool my new character would just be like on Cartoon Network with miguzi.😇🦎
I can relate. I was planning on making a video exploring SpongeBob's massive connection to memes, but a larger RUclipsr named Quinton Reviews already made a video exploring it in detail.

I love Miguzi, but Cartoon Network should've thought about the scheduling and time slot for Toonami.
I’m so glad you’re back!
I was the one who is doing that making a new monster for miguzi on Cartoon Network because I know how cool my new character would just be like on Cartoon Network with miguzi.😇🦎
I've never heard of DC Nation, but Miguzi was the bees knees
We're Tom?
Who think it was good idea to replace Tom no one replace Toonami
I'm creating a cartoon. It's called, Forgotten Tales! It's about these forgotten and obscure characters that go on wacky and crazy adventures.
Maaan watching Miguzi with my brothers after racing home from school was the highlight of my day mosy of the time.
god has returned
I didn't have Cartoon Network until 2010 so I completely missed it and Code Lyoko :(
Do yourself a favor and go back to watch some of its content!
Aww, I wanted to be the first to do a video on Miguzi one day. But anyways nice video dude.
I can relate. I was planning on making a video exploring SpongeBob's massive connection to memes, but a larger RUclipsr named Quinton Reviews already made a video exploring it in detail.
Miguzi was good and I was pissed when they decided to remove it
They need to bring this back just like They need to bring back Jetix
