    Hey everyone! In the description, I listed some cool webpages that had a lot of interesting information about Miguzi if you're inclined to check them out. Also, at 3:40, I misspoke and instead of saying shrunk, I said shrinked, which is grammatically incorrect. Thanks for checking out the video :)

  • @Masterge77
    @Masterge77 6 лет назад +9

    I remember growing up with the original daytime version of Toonami prior to it being replaced by Miguzi, and Miguzi was... well, it barely remember it in comparison to how fondly I remembered the cool robot in a spaceship voiced by Steve Blum. Yeah, I have more nostalgia for Toonami than I do Miguzi, even after it moved to Saturdays. In all fairness though, Miguzi was doomed from it's conception.
    The thing about Miguzi that was likely the reason few people remember it was it's selection of programming, being that 90% of it's programming was all shows that were either already airing on Cartoon Network in different time slots (like Totally Spies and Teen Titans) or were from other networks entirely (like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), while Toonami's programming was 80% exclusive to that block, both before and after it's move to Saturday nights. Literally the ONLY show that was exclusive to Miguzi was Code Lyoko, which is likely the only show anyone remembers from Miguzi because it wasn't a show from another network or already airing in another time-slot.
    Honestly, I think Miguzi would have done better and would have been remembered more if it had more exclusive programming, rather than just being a depository for shows that were already airing in other time slots. Toonami was successful because of it's exclusive lineup of programming, since it was the only time of the day where you could watch Dragon Ball Z, Gundam, or other anime, while something like Teen Titans could be watched at any other time on the network, especially considering that beyond Code Lyoko, Miguzi almost NEVER aired new episodes, it was 90% reruns. If anything, this is what led to Miguzi's downfall.
    Also, what does the word "Miguzi" even mean? "Toonami" was obviously a word play on "toon" and "tsunami", the latter word being Japanese in origin, which is fitting given how much anime played on the network. "Miguzi" does sound very Japanese in origin when you say it... until I remembered that it would be pronounced "Miguji" as there's no syllable character for "zi" in Japanese, but instead it's pronounced "ji", so... yeah, it's a word they most likely made up.

    • @monstersreview
      @monstersreview  6 лет назад +4

      Great points. I honestly have no idea where the name comes from either. The only similar word that comes to my mind is 'jacuzzi'. It could've been a name that was merely developed out of randomness, but there's a chance that it has meaning.

    • @Masterge77
      @Masterge77 6 лет назад +5

      @MonstersReview It wasn't just the lack of original programming beyond Code Lyoko and over-reliance on reruns that killed Miguzi, the block also had some stiff competition, not just with Toonami on Saturdays, but Toon Disney's Jetix block was going on around the same time. Unlike Miguzi, Jetix at least had original, exclusive programming, which not only included original shows like Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go and Yin Yang Yo, but also re-aired older action/adventure shows that the parents and older siblings of the target demographic likely watched such as the older seasons of Power Rangers and Digimon, along with their newer, current seasons.
      Jetix also lasted 3 years longer than Miguzi did, and outlived both it and Toonami, which shows you how much successful the block was. Of course, in the case of Miguzi, Toonami, and Jetix, all three of the blocks were killed because of a regime change at their respective networks. Jetix was killed when Toon Disney was rebranded into Disney XD, with the network going in a different direction to appeal more to teenagers, and we all know what happened to Cartoon Network after Toonami ended, considering CN also had a change in it's CEO to the controversial Stuart Snyder, who wanted to take the network in a different direction.
      Honestly, I miss both Toonami (the original, non Adult Swim one) and Jetix, though I couldn't say the same for Miguzi beyond Code Lyoko. Doesn't help the networks have a massive bias towards action/adventure cartoons and instead favor goofy, quirky comedies, which is why I barely watch TV anymore.

    Miguzi was alright, but I remember in school it was seen more like the Disney Junior of Toonami. This was because most of the programming was either made for younger audiences or censored for younger audiences. On the other hand Toonami showed Batman the animated series, Both justice league shows, Teen Titans, Naruto, DBZ, and Gundam all which where barely censored.

    no body ever talks about the action block of cartoons that predated Toonami that focused on Hannabarbera action shows like Johnny quest and the Herculoids. even now when I tried looking up "the Action Hour" ( I think thats what it was called) I cant find a thing :(

      Dude I remember that!! It had a really cool intro or at least I remember it having one.
      I may be wrong but I think the earliest DBZ in America episodes were on that block cause I remember watching Johnny Test and DBZ during the same block

      @@dylaningobernoble9971 I remember the intro being like really early CGI, it was metal lettering on a stone like wall with a fire effect behind it and characters from the block super imposed on the metal. I cant for the life of me remember what it was called but I think it was "the action hour" Im glad to finally see someone else remembered that, if you have any other info, please let me know.

    I liked Miguzi when i was younger despite its lighthearted tone. the only good shows on miguzi are tmnt 2003 and Teen Titans mainly because they have storylines.But Tbh Toonami is better than Miguzi in terms of Action/Adventure and Serious storylines

      Maybe I was just a bad actor, but faking sick didn't work on my parents. Must've been interesting for you because Miguzi didn't start until the afternoon!

    I remember my brother changed the channel to Cartoon Network at 5 one day and told me about this show “naruto” been over 15 years since that day and I wonder if I would have been a fan if my brother didn’t introduce me to it .

    after Toonami, there were two more action blocks: You Are Here and The Biggest Night of Action

    • @monstersreview
      @monstersreview  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah, but they weren't nearly as successful or recognizable. I really did like the lineup of 'You Are Here', with shows like Ben 10: Alien Force, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and The Secret Saturdays.

      I can relate. I was planning on making a video exploring SpongeBob's massive connection to memes, but a larger RUclipsr named Quinton Reviews already made a video exploring it in detail.
