So often I’ve relied on the full download of songs in dreams! Or settled into a comfort zone with my formula. I’m old Now 😊 and just started learning how to produce my own music, But wanting to stretch and be good because music is what changes us to reflect the creator of creation! What an incredible thing!! The amount of useful info and professional producing quality of the video has me asking. 'How the hell this doesn't have hundreds of thousands of views?' Refreshing too as YT constantly rubbers in my face like 3,4 same, gigantic channels on this topic. Thank you.
Either these videos should have come up like 3-4 years back or else its making more sense now that I haven't given up and still working on my craft. anyway these have a lot of content and knowledge than I would have imagined. I'm going to apply it all. Specially the arrangement ones. Literally Ears opened!

I think what happened for me atleast was learning a lot of theory, before that I remember being a lot more "exploring" musically. Now I feel like I create the same song every time. I feel like we tend to forget to have fun, explore and "play" with the music and rather use the rules we learn as crutches for making "good" music consistently.

My reaction...here are 15 ideas!!! Nobody in their right mind in offering help (about anything)to a beginner would start with "here are 15 ideas". I stopped at that stage.
Fair enough - I presume you mean that it is too much information for a beginner? Perhaps - we were presuming people would discard tips that were not so useful to them, or that they know already. BTW you misheard what I said - there is 15 ' tips' and '15 things you should know' not '15 ideas'. Anyway, people absorb information in different ways - so maybe you're right that for some people it might be overwhelming. I'm sorry you didn't stick around to see for yourself - the video has 100% likes so far so a lot of people seem to be fine with it. Good luck with your music, anyway, and sorry we couldn't help you! If I understand you correctly - I think some people find this easier than others. Singing melodies is usually a good way of making them up - you will naturally make melody with space and breaths. You don't need to think of them in your head - its cool to use an instrument if that works for you. Find your own way of doing it. EO

Yep, I know what you mean. I agree Wuthering Heights is a masterpiece. And I don't like Happy either!! I use it as an example of when melodies can get annoying elsewhere on the channel. I like Single Ladies more, but wouldn't mind if I never heard it again. You'll notice I just said they became 'monster hits' not that I thought they were exemplars of song writing. That is the thing I wanted to be clear about - having a simple melody is no impediment to writing a hit song. You might need other elements (eg production, fantastic singer etc...) to be more sophisticated to make it work. Thats the only thing I disagree with you about - that happy and single ladies sound like demos - I'd say they are very cleverly and carefully produced. Sometimes these comparisons don't really work for me - different tracks are sometimes trying to do totally different things and it is like comparing a sandwich with chewing gum. Pharrell and Beyonce want you on the dance floor, with a big smile on your face. Kate Bush is doing something else entirely in W.H. - and that's why you don't usually hear that track played at weddings. EO
@@EarOpener I never liked pharrel style, too simple and repetitive. And sometimes he uses horrible harmonies (She’s not me with Madonna or the album he did for Ariana, Blow for beyonce, like I love you for justin timberlake… and more). The beyonce song worked because of the video, when the track leaked the fans were hoping it was a demo 🤣 btw the bridge of that song is the most horrendous thing… I remember when I was a dj and had to play it, I tried to make a edit without that bridge but it didnt work. 🤣 nice videos. Keep up!!
Ha ha. Have you seen our episode on balancing complexity/simplicity ? That expresses a lot of my feelings on this subject - how the best tracks tend to have some things that are complex and some things that are simple. So the drums on Wuthering Heights are super simple, for example . . . Thanks for your support! EO
