Oh my gosh! I've made that cucumber drink so many times too! I even bought a citrus juicer to make it more efficiently! 😆 Also, use a boba straw! So much easier to drink!
Beryl, since you got so excited when you added alcohol to two of these drinks, why not do an episode where you do cocktails from around the world? It would give you an excuse to get liquors and ingredients that you haven't tried from around the world! Who knows what you would find?
Yes! I think that would be great! An awesome resource for research on this topic would be the RUclips channel How to Drink. Greg goes into the history of different cocktails and spirits. I know Beryl loves food history, so maybe his channel would be a good resource/ interest her.
Mangonadas are my favorite. ❤ the contrast between the sweet fruit and the tart almost savory chamoy and the tiny little kick and little bit of salt from the tajin is just absolutely perfect. Its so good! Especially in the summer.
When I would visit family in Guadalajara, MX there was a lady selling them out of her house (front door basically) around the corner from my aunt’s house and those are still the best ones I ever had. I went so often during that particular trip that that lady and her whole family got to know me and would jokingly greet me with “Oh he’s here again!” I didn’t care. I was going back to the US soon so I was gonna get my fill before I couldn’t anymore lol.
In Mexico we make "agua de pepino con limón" (cucumber limeade basically). If you add Chía seeds or basil seeds to it, it could be a great alternative to timun serut if you don't want the cucumber bits to get stuck in your straw.
13:35 it's nice to see a drink from Aceh being included 😄. You've included so many Indonesian dishes so far, it would be awesome if you can visit Indonesia someday.

My family makes virgin Mojitos every summer and it's honestly delicious, so that cucumber one sounds heavenly! The Strawberry Wine one also sounds great. I'll probably be trying it when strawberries come in season again.
One of my favorite summer drinks is basil lemonade. It’s just lemonade (I like Chef John’s recipe on yt) with a basil purée added to taste. It’s very refreshing, and just a little bit different. I could see at a party, having lemonade and a variety of purées/additions for guests mix in - basil, mint, strawberry, lime, chamoy?, something spicy, alcohol, etc. Could do the same thing with tea… I love having make-it-to-your-taste type foods at parties. 😁
I love this Beryl! My mother used to serve us Cantaloupe with Vanilla Ice Cream on top, for dessert. The combo is magical! I'll have to try it in milkshake form now!! Thanks for sharing your light!
There's actually another drink of cantaloupe: coarsely grated, add sugar syrup/cocopandan syrup, some ice & (plain soda) water. A simple modest refreshing drink for me❤
In Malaysia we do have Darker Color Palm Sugar or Gula Melaka. You can do it with brown sugar but the taste will be different. Glad a drink from Malaysia make the top 5 ❤️🥰
In sarawak we call it as "gula apung" or dalam bahasa semenanjung "gula nipah"..gula apung is deferent from other brown sugar in other state in malaysia because its has a sweet and little bit salty...by the way sarawakian here...
Gula Apong and Gula Melaka are two completely different sugars and have completely different tastes :) Proper gula apong is slightly smoky, sweet and a touch salty because the nipah palm is a mangrove palm.
I think perhaps for making the palm sugar syrup darker, it may just need to be boiled longer, as I know when I am making a simple syrup with white sugar/water, it takes on a darker color the longer it cooks. The sugar caramelizes and more water evaporates as steam as it is cooked.
As a summer drink one thing comes to my mind frist frape iced coffee the second thing is mint tea and greek bitter( mountain )tea with honey is also a favourite of mine its bitter but like the enjoyble way and then you have the honey and it hits you with the sweetness ( all if the drinks served cold of course)

Gin or vodka would totally work with the cucumber drink! 🍸 As an Indonesian I actually prefer another type of ‘cucumber’ called timun suri which, despite being called ‘timun’ (cucumber) in Indonesian, I’m pretty sure is actually a type of melon. Unfortunately I don’t know the scientific name for it for you too look it up. Ada yang tau nama binomial timun suri nggak sih? 🤔
@@augustferrano8887 huh? Then it’s just… melon? 😆 How come I’ve never made that connection before? Jeebus, I thought it was something more exotic than that! 🤣
My year-round drink is fruit tea. What I make is probably more of a punch, but it is a punch based on black tea. I also like commercial takeaway lemon tea from boba shops and Starbucks, and Mildura Sunrise Orange and Passionfruit Drink (i.e. a drink that is fruit flavoured but is not pure fruit juice, but has added sugar, water and food acids). Of late, I have been putting dried fruit into the tea while brewing it, as bought a pile of dried fruit to finally try my idea of a boiled fruitcake with no dried grapes (i.e. sultanas or raisins), but I had a pile of leftover fruit, so based on a type of tea I encountered in China, I am putting the dried fruit in when brewing my tea.
15:59 The palm sugar for Teh C Peng Special is made from Nipah Palm sap. That's why it is darker. The Thai Palm Sugar that you use in the video is made of Toddy Palm Tree sap, which is why the colour is different & probably the taste different too. Coconut Sugar, Gula Apong aka Nipa Palm Sugar, Toddy Palm sugar & Aren Palm sugar...all have different taste & texture.
I love putting ice cubes in red wine, too! It’s better to me with ice. I feel very lucky that I live in a smaller city than you and can easily find the the ingredients for recipes you make. I think you’re right about palm sugar. I have a lot of different ethnic shops where I live and I’ve seen darker at a (nice) Latina bodega and lighter at some of the Asian markets here. Thank you for using glass straws, and regarding what time it was when you were enjoying some booziness… live your life and enjoy it! 😉
I love mangonatas. I discovered them in my local paleteria (kind of a Mexican snack/ice cream store). (If you love spicy food, I believe the diabolito is the spicy version of the mangonata.). If you’ve never been to a paleteria I highly recommend it. They have gorgeous fruit and fruit-based treats all over the place, including great drinks and desserts for those (like me) who are lactose intolerant. And that is my idea for an episode - dairy-free frozen desserts. Please, please, help me find something I love as much as ice cream. 🥰
Here are a couple of simple mocktails from here in the States. *Sour Coke* Mix 2 parts Coke-a-Cola with 1 part lemon sour (the "sour" part of a whiskey sour). Serve over ice. Turns a sweet carbonated soda in a deliciously tart, refreshing drink, and you can get it at any bar that has a soda gun. It's my favorite go-to at wedding receptions, letting me be sociable while keeping sober. I'd put it on par with an Arnold Palmer. *Basil Lemonade* For every 2 liters/quarts of lemonade you're making, cut 12 large fresh Italian basil leaves into ribbons, aka chiffonade. For those who don't know how to do this, you stack 3-4 leaves on top of each other, roll them up like a cigar, and then slice it. Muddle the basil ribbons into the sugar you'll be using for the lemonade and let sit for 10 minutes. Mix up your lemonade with the sugar and basil. Serve over ice. Not recommended for people with braces. The basil and lemon harmonize together in the most lovely way, amping up the complexity of this sweet-tart classic. The herby notes from the basil aren't overwhelming, so this can be enjoyed by children, though less adventurous tykes might need to see their peers liking it first.
I’m with you, Beryl on putting ice in red wine. I cannot drink red wine room temperature during the summer. And never forget when adding a little booze, it’s five o’clock somewhere. 😎
Beryl dear.. in indonesia there tons of fun drinks.. i swear.. U can try some of my personal favorite who u cud add with some of ur fave liquor and basil seeds, lol.. Such as 1. Soursop ice juice with condensed milk 2. Marquisa ice syrup with basil seeds 3. Kuwud lime ice (its mixed of honeydew, coconut flesh plus its water, and lime) They are all so sooo refreshing and very easy to make

One more fun drink from Indonesia is called Soda Gembira literally means Happy Soda, you can find it around East Java Province where i think it's kinda local for us there, because in another part of Indonesia you'll not find the perfect combination like us in East Java have. #cmiiw
Has she tried out Maibowle? That's one very famous drink in Germany in the early summer. Might be exceedingly hard to get actual sweet woodruff in New York, tho. Since the stuff is mildly toxic it's not being used commercially anymore, meaning you basically have to gather it fresh from a forest when and where it grows.
i like that you put alcohol into the cucumber drink that come from aceh the most conservative backwaed region in indonesia the place where people can get lashes for drink alcohol
Malaysia does not have food and drink, even the original culture of Malaysia itself, everything comes from the cultural influence of immigrants from China, India, even influence from Indonesia because based on history, Malaysia is under the authority of the Kingdom of Indonesia.
I concur about cantaloupe -- keep it away from me. But a long time ago, around the time one was built across the street from the building where I worked, Walgreen's used to sell "cantaloupe ice cream" in little pint containers. When I would make a Walgreen's pit stop before arriving at work on Saturdays, I would eyeball all the different ice cream flavors they had on offer ... and nearly ALWAYS come out of the store with a pint of CANTALOUPE and a smile. The intended cantaloupe flavor was very demure, and it tasted sort of PEACHY. Sometimes when I'm in that store, I stand a bit sadly in front of the current ice cream selections, sorely miss the cantaloupe days, and walk away without buying any.
woots! proud kuchingite here 🐱 my favourite twist to the three layer tea is actually using wintermelon syrup instead of nipah sugar syrup aka gula apong. wintermelon gives a more fruity taste and less of the roasted/malty note from the original nipah sugar, which makes it even more refreshing!
The palm sugar you used for the Teh C looks really pale. Perhaps they use a different kind of palm where you're from to process it. In southeast Asia, the palm is actually coconut (Yes it's a type of palm) and it's cooked and caramelized to give it the rich and dark colour. It will definitely taste pretty sweet if you use the right palm sugar and the sweetness lingers in your mouth
American “cantaloupe” is actually Muskmelon. Cantaloupe is different. For a summer drink try Carrot & Orange juice (tastes like a Creamsicle) and for a bonus add some frozen Mango purée.
@@akankshapatwari4167 It is best with freshly made carrot juice however. Very similar: the American “Creamsicle” is an orange sherbet & vanilla ice cream popsicle/ice lolly.
Hahahaha. If Acehnese watched this video, they would be furious to pour their drink with gin 😅 they would think that it’s blasphemy 🤣 But es timun serut is dope. I like it even I’m not Acehnese.
Another Indonesian drink is Avocado Juice. Use avocado, cold water, ad sugar ( if u want some.sweetnes).....and blend it . After became juice, move it to glass, add some chocolate condenced milk, or sprinkled chocolate and ......enjoy😊

The scientific name is Cucumis melo L var. reticulatus Naudin
@@augustferrano8887 huh? Then it’s just… melon? 😆 How come I’ve never made that connection before? Jeebus, I thought it was something more exotic than that! 🤣
@@KilanEatsandDrinks
Timun itu juga sejenis sama melon, yg mana kedua-duanya itu sejenis sama labu
Just tried the cantaloupe milkshake. I didn’t care for it but my hubby absolutely loved it! I’ll be making it for him again for sure.
Beryl: *puts strawberries in wine*
Also Beryl, surprised: It tastes like strawberry wine!
🤭
You gotta rim your glasses with Tajín! Margaritas, Mangoneadas, Micheladas and Bloody Marys/Marias... That tart, spicy hit is the best!!
Many places serve cold wine in Portugal and Spain.
Going to try some of these! More drinks please.
Yes, please - same.
Put the alcohol in cucumber drink of aceh (most are moslem) people is like putting pineaple in italian pizza: Causes controversy but it tastes good
Here are a couple of simple mocktails from here in the States.
*Sour Coke*
Mix 2 parts Coke-a-Cola with 1 part lemon sour (the "sour" part of a whiskey sour).
*Basil Lemonade*
For every 2 liters/quarts of lemonade you're making, cut 12 large fresh Italian basil leaves into ribbons, aka chiffonade.
I had a good laugh with you Sandra Lee reference! Need to try these drinks! Yum
I love cantaloupe, here in Bulgaria is a summer staple ❤
I’m with you, Beryl on putting ice in red wine. I cannot drink red wine room temperature during the summer. And never forget when adding a little booze, it’s five o’clock somewhere. 😎
Beryl dear.. in indonesia there tons of fun drinks.. i swear..
U can try some of my personal favorite who u cud add with some of ur fave liquor and basil seeds, lol..
Such as
1. Soursop ice juice with condensed milk
2. Marquisa ice syrup with basil seeds
3. Kuwud lime ice (its mixed of honeydew, coconut flesh plus its water, and lime)
They are all so sooo refreshing and very easy to make
Beryl is in NYC? I dont think it is easy to get fresh soursop, marquisa, or young coconut meat there 😅
@@fitriaahsani1286 wkwkwk.. Im actually didn't know where beryl lives.. But I was just sharing my personal favorite fresh fun drinks.. It's up to her whether she wants to make and try them.. But I know she already made lots of dishes with some ingredients from around the world

Teh c is made with gula Melaka. It’s a darker sugar that comes in a tube shape
One more fun drink from Indonesia is called Soda Gembira literally means Happy Soda, you can find it around East Java Province where i think it's kinda local for us there, because in another part of Indonesia you'll not find the perfect combination like us in East Java have. #cmiiw
Date shake or date milk is very popular in the UAE along with Suleimani Chai and Good old Laban
Just a tip: I don't buy the best gin, but I put a large sprig of basil in the bottle and it tastes much more high-end.
I’m with Beryl on Cantaloupe- I’m generally not a fan of ANY melon!🤷♀️
But oddly- I quite like melon flavoured lollies!🤷♀️👍🏻🥰
Has she tried out Maibowle?
That's one very famous drink in Germany in the early summer.
Might be exceedingly hard to get actual sweet woodruff in New York, tho.
Since the stuff is mildly toxic it's not being used commercially anymore, meaning you basically have to gather it fresh from a forest when and where it grows.
ohhhh no!!! you had me at toxic lol
i like that you put alcohol into the cucumber drink that come from aceh the most conservative backwaed region in indonesia the place where people can get lashes for drink alcohol
I love Tajin! I put it on buttered popcorn.
Love Tajin! I add it to everything! Egg white veggie omelettes, jasmine rice with olive oil, savory grits or polenta, mashed potatoes, chicken & dumplings, cooked greens/kale/spinach, potato soup, chowders, mashed turnips, cooked cabbage, boiled edamame, garlic butter noodles, chicken cooked any way, fish, meatloaf, deviled eggs, sliced tomatoes, toasted nuts, any green salad or herb salad, tuna salad, homemade soup, beans, lentils or chickpeas, fresh fruits, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, sliced apples, sliced pears, mango always, any citrus, avocados, cucumbers, jicama, all Mexican dishes, French fries, Ramen noodles, cheese fondue. Much much more...
Happy you did the mangoneada ❤❤

You know it's going to be an excellent day when you see a new Beryl Shereshewsky video up 😊
Yay! Kuching Sarawak Malaysia! That is my birthplace! Thank you for sharing this!
Love it! More Malaysian food and drink please
Malaysia does not have food and drink, even the original culture of Malaysia itself, everything comes from the cultural influence of immigrants from China, India, even influence from Indonesia because based on history, Malaysia is under the authority of the Kingdom of Indonesia.
@@User-dfly95xcw23cfw kingdom ? Haha! You r so funny. Even in history the citizen killed their own king ! Hahahahahhaa. Delusional.
You can change it (the cucumber) with watermelon Miss Beryl.. for Timun Serut.. with Syrup on it.. Have it ur way then..🎉😂 You should try it
Shout out to Southeast Asia! 🇮🇩 🇲🇾
APFELSCHORLE! TOTALLY SIMPLE, BUT. SO. SATISFYING!
I've watched every video on this channel and yet I didn't remember some of those. Great idea to make a clip show of some faves!
In the US there are many entrepreneurs who develop Indonesian food on a large scale (companies) such as "tempe", "sate" and others
The thinnest layer of gula in that layered tea - its supposed to be like a syrup
Teh c special’s palm sugar is much darker in color but thanks for highlighting our drinks!
American “cantaloupe” is actually Muskmelon. Cantaloupe is different. For a summer drink try Carrot & Orange juice (tastes like a Creamsicle) and for a bonus add some frozen Mango purée.
The carrot drink sounds delicious. I love mango juice with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream floating in it.
@@akankshapatwari4167 It is best with freshly made carrot juice however. Very similar: the American “Creamsicle” is an orange sherbet & vanilla ice cream popsicle/ice lolly.
@@akankshapatwari4167 I very much miss the mango ice cream in India, or even the Pistacio ⁉️❣️
@@chrissonnenschein6634 Yes I love mango ice- cream. I hope you visit India often and satiate your desire for mango ice cream
