it is times like this when I am so glad I chose sign language to be my secong language. It is one of the most beautiful languages and can express so much more than words without ever saying them.
Kaylee Hogness I agree. I just recently started learning and I actually sometimes forget a word in English and sign it. I've even had dreams where its just signing
it's so cool to see how you interpretate the song not only by the hand movements, but through all of your body language. probably someone's who's deaf would understand better how the song flows because of all of those aditional expressions
@@thomasbegley9957, he actually did. When you are interpreting a song in ASL, you may actually add a few changes for aesthetic purposes just enough so it doesn't distort the imagery.
I absolutely love your videos! I am a behavioral tutor for special needs children and they love your songs because while they are on varying levels of verbal language, most of them understand basic sign language. Some student just get up and dance during signing time, but some really enjoy your videos as a learning tool! Thank you for your amazing effort - it truly shows!!
Your songs are such an inspiration. In my own ASL class our final project was a signed song and you videos helped me so much in learned translation and sign placement. This is a beautiful language, so expressive and honest. It is truly amazing. Thank you for taking the time to do this. :)
I am literally doing the exact same thing right now!! Except for the fact that although you probably practiced a lot before your presentation, I have not. my project is due tomorrow, and this is the second night that I'm practicing. I'm so good at life right now... :/
Excellent job! I've been signing for 5 years but its rare to see someone with as much emotion and grace as you! This is simply wonderful! (I'm subscribing!) :D
I love how you add the lyrics and literal translation of the signs because I'm learning ASL and it helps me so much. It also helps that this is one of my favorite songs c:
I've been signing for almost 20 years, I have 2 deaf siblings and teach at a high school and personally you are one of the most impressive signers I've seen especially doing an interpretive and not literal signing of a song. Your facial expressions are stellar and whoever taught you should be proud of themselves. They did an awesome job. It's even more impressive to me since you're a guy, there's not many male interpreters out there. Kudos, keep up the good work!
I like that you use great facial expressions, Not all of the signers do this and it is really hard to follow them. I love your zombie song, it cracks me up.
Ok Buddy there is one thing. As member of the hearing but ASL community I have to say that songsign is awesome. You are too. The community as a whole feels that you are doing it wrong and that's ok. Songsign is about interpretation not conversation. There are many videos out there where you can learn conversation ASL not songsign. You do a great job in expressing yourself and the lyrics presented. Keep doing what your doing kid.
It has been 8 years since I first saw this video, and I keep coming back. I honestly just love the way you sign, you’re face is so expressive, and I’ve yet to find another RUclips channel that made it as easy for me to learn how to sign a song.
I don't know anyone who is deaf personally...but a senior performed this at my brother's school with crazy lighting, and I was crying, it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.
All I can say is absolutely incredible! You are such an inspiration to me as a slow learner. I have only learned the key words and some connections. I hope to be a signer one day, you and all the others are helping me one step at a time. Thank you! ~♥
Thank you so much for including ASL captions in your description! I am a 5th grade teacher and occasionally show my students sign language so I wanted to show them a video and how the lyrics are not always translated identically with the signs!
Thank you so much for providing the GLOSS! I'm in my first year of ASL and am learning this song. Your translation is beautiful and I am trying to learn it so I can sign it in front of my class. I'm so glad you provided the GLOSS because I feel like I am actually learning the signs you show now that I know their direct translations.
Over a decade and this is still fantastic. I watched this the first time during a very hard time in my life and both the song and your ASL interpretation was a bright point.
Love, love, love this! Clear signing, very animated face, and in time with the audio, and subtitles. Great teaching for those of us who desire learn asl, or be fluent in it, but need it slowed down a bit at first. Thank you! Great video!
Imm a deaf adult with cochlearimplant and want to learn ASL finally and stumbled on this video and its great... makes me more enthusiastic about learning my language :) thank you
I've seen this song signed a couple different ways but I've never seen the music incorporated so well into the signing! Freaking awesome, keep it up! DFTBA
I'm in college for sign language interpreter and your videos help me to get through assignments and you have so much emotion in your signing and you're truly inspiring. Keep up the great work
I've become addicted to ASL music interpretations now. I would like to especially like to thank you for adding the gloss at the bottom. I'm picking up vocabulary and ASL grammar by seeing how it is phrased conceptually in ASL. Thank you! Great job!
I wish he still made ASL videos he should not care what other people say I think. Hey, did you know people are writing academic articles about you? You should look up "Songs for Hands: Analyzing Interactions of Sign Language and Music" written by Anabel Maler.
Learning how to sign. I love how you give the lyrics and give the signs you sign underneath of it. It's really been helping me greatly. thanks soooo much!!!!!
That was... magical. The facial grammar, the translation from English words to ASL, even the way the signs matched the song timing (1:22)! This was such a pleasure to watch. Thanks for posting!
Thank you so much for posting this. It's great! I was able to adapt the gloss and perform it as a birthday present for a family friend who has since passed away of leukemia. Thanks for helping me make her birthday a little brighter!

This is wonderful! My ten year old son's favorite song. He and I are learning ASL together. I will share this with him I know he'll love it as much as I did. Thank you!
I was assigned to watch this for one of my asl classes and now I cannot listen to Fireflies without watching this video; it's just so much cooler to see the song play out visually, gives me chills. I hope I can get on this level one day but it seems you have a natural gift sooo
