+Phlearn Photoshop and Photography Tutorials - It's no problem, you guys have helped me immensely with my edits and inspired me to develop my skills further. You guys just totally rock!
I received a job to colorize. I pray for God and i go to sleep. Today I turn on my computer, RUclips, Phlearn... I see a "angel" teach me a great tutorial. Thanks Aaron "Nice".
I love the fact that you incorporate the blending modes. Those are tough to get your head around, and you highlighting a few in action is a great way to learn them!
FINALLY ! I found you! thank you so much.. ```` its very clear now to me on how to make digital clipart..`. i want it to try now after i wtch it.. and i will now make my own clipart...
I've been trying to figure out how to make scanned lineart pick up for ages. I actually teared up once you explained it so simply (happy/relief tears, not frustrated ones!!). Thank you SO much!!
Good tutorial as usual. However, there is one big drawback to using this technique for making your lineart transparent (changing your blend mode to Multiply): you don't isolate the lineart (the inklines) on its own layer. So when you paint your image, the paint color will also affect your lineart which isn't always what you want. In some cases you want the lineart to stay completely black or color it in separately. In that case it's better to copy your lineart layer into a new layer, select it with the Magic Wand-tool, rightclick and select Similar. This will select everything but the lineart. Hit Delete and all the white areas will become transparent. Then check the Preserve Transparency option in de Layers Panel and now you have a completely separated lineart drawing that you can work on when needed. The coloring process will then proceed as in the tutorial but you will do that in layers BELOW the lineart, not above it. This however will require you to work more precisely along the edges. Otherwise, great tutorial that gave me extra knowledge about color theory and how you can add ecxtra warmth to your drawing by not just sticking to the most Obvious colors.
This tutorial is amazing, opened up Photoshop and tried and failed several times but got it in the end after re-watching the video and going over the steps, thank you for your tutorial its much appreciated. I'm going to subscribe now :)
Geez! Where were you when I was first starting 12 years ago? You'd have saved me a TON of money and tuition from a school that never even taught me anything and forced me to be self-taught. *Ugh* I'll be honest, I'm no teacher and people ask me all the time how they can learn PS, so I just send people to this channel. Those who truly want to learn come back to me saying, that Aaron's sucked an entire weekend from their lives like Count Tyrone Rugen from the Princess Bride. (YAAAAASSSSSS!!!!) Wear that badge Phlearn. Wear it proudly! God knows you've taught me a few new tricks even with 12 years of PS experience!
Thank you so much. I have to paint an image I drew for my final project in my photoshop 101 class and was never taught how to do it. You are a life saver! I can't wait to watch more videos and get a better grasp on things. Thank you!!!! You rock!1
I don't know about u'll, but i really appreciate the fact that he's sharing most of his knowledge with all of us, god knows i won't do it i'm too selfish to be like him, good job Aaron keep up the good work, and THNX
Thank you so much for this tutorial! This is JUST what I needed to know how to do and I've spent days trying to figure out. This tutorial made it so easy and simple. Thank you!!!
Way more easier than other tutorial...usually i have too spend time to colour and waste my layer and this tutorial is my shortcut to everything. thank you so much it really helpfull. Thumbs up
I love your tutorials, they are very helpful! I've put a few of them to the test and so far everything I've done has turned out great :) Thanks for the awesome videos!

Hello from Turkey, Because of you I learned to use Photoshop, Thanks to the wonderful expressions.
Thanks for posting this! I had been looking for a nice basic photoshop coloring video that explains things clearly and demonstrates slowly with good commentary. I had been searching so many videos that assume I know the basics. This video is really clear, actually shows the basics, and great speaker who takes it slow and explains everything. This video was super amazing!
This looks pretty good and is a good general introduction to shading but there is a problem: Because the lines in the line art aren't black, when you set the line art layer to multiply it is affected by the colours you place beneath. How would you suggest avoiding that, without having to make the line art black?
FlowersInHisHair I think if you make a duplicated copy of your line art layer and put it on top of your other line art later that you’re coloring with, that works.
pretty awesome... I just bought this incredible book of illustrations... instead of pulling out my markers to relax and color, I am going to try to work it out in photoshop. Thanks for this amazing tips...
This is real good, beneficial tutorial!! Thank you sooo much! You explain in steps, you speak clean and slowly, you don't just rush to explain so fast through the steps. Even though english is not my mother language, i totally got it from A-Z! I hope one day i can do well in illustrating, and all, thatnks to your tutorials!! Thanks, greetings from Japan!
you are a god send man THANK YOU! been trying to not color outside of lines for my anime line art for for eeeeveeerr and now i can hit the ground running 👍
I could've used a different way in a similar project, but I must say yours is pretty creative, much more creative than what I had in mind. Great video!
Pro tip from an illustrator :P It's way better to do that layer mask as you did in the first step but with that strong line drawing just use laso tool or use some kind of brush with hard edges, go over the edges of your base color and use paint bucket in the middle like 3-4 times. Dont bother too much in keeping the edges clean, color from the bottom layer of things (i mean skin -> cloth -> jewellery ->other details) So you can be more and more precise each next step and then just ctrl+click on thumbnail of the top layer and you go and press delete on layers below, then ctrl+click on layer lower than previous and del layers below it, do it until you go to the bottom. Way way faster than this method :)
+Adrian N Oh and also on the first layer mask if you dont have that luxuary of extracting it from a single color you can do lasso selection around it roughly, fill it with something, erase what's not needed. (you can also do the same trick with the steps i was talking before but for me it's kind of slower than just painting the contour and fill the rest with paint bucket)
You know I had a job interview yesterday and they asked about the question about how I was with technology and computer programs? I told them that I had Office down pat, but that I was very happy to say that I am comfortable with Photoshop and was self taught with books and tutorials online...I should have just said I learned from Phlearn.
Another absolutely brilliant tutorial. You're a genuine tutor. I loved the introduction, the tutorial, the summary and the outtakes. I won't be doing this right now but will be trying out the techniques shown here in the not too distant future. I've done my colouring in using a much more difficult method. This is ace. Thank you ever so much :-)
+Nicole Perez Yea it takes me hours to colour my pencil drawings and I still think they should look a lot better. Watching this to hopefully find a better/quicker/easier way! The worst problems I have are that the digital colours/shading layers interact with the background layer (scanned line-art) in weird ways and it makes the lineart look bad no matter what blend mode I try. Also I find getting good smooth lighting & shading over large areas (like light to dark gradients on skin) really hard to get looking right. Fingers crossed!
this is the best coloring tutorial that I have ever watched!
yeah I agree with you
Right? HE IS TOTALLY DOIN' IT THE PROFESSIONAL WAYS.
definitely
I love the tutorial but the pineapple is missing 3 key features.
1. A door
2. Windows
3. A sponge
AAAAA
SPONGEBOB
***** TOO LATE
right. i really feel those are missing lol
Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
lol
This is the best channel on RUclips
