    The time loop system and all the rich side quests separate from the main story that it enabled made for quite possibly the most immersive video game world I've ever experienced to this day, and I've played a lot of games from 2000 until now.

    9:54…ok so about that… that’s not a flaw..that was a design choice to highlight the theme of the story…if you ain’t doing the side quest link ain’t growing up as a person.. that’s why the fierce deity mask is adult link.. if you face majora without mask .. then you are facing them like an immature child.. therefore your struggle is harder

      A lot of the things he mentioned aren't flaws, just things he didn't understand the point of. In other words: Majora's Mask is flawed, but so is this video.

    The fact that this game doesn't hold your hand with indicators on what to do is the reason why it took me years to turn back to human Link. (that was before I knew english, so I always went based on visual hints when it came to video games, not by text)
    And yet, it's still my favorite Zelda game, maybe top 3 games of all time.

    Nice review! Personally I think that the FD Mask being locked behind getting all masks is a fantastic reward for going the extra mile to help out the civilians of Termina. Though they definitely could have conveyed this information better in game. Having a timer really sucks for dungeons since you run the risk of having to reset the cycle if you fail to finish the dungeon (Stone Tower especially is a massive dungeon). Also, I 100% agree that playing OoT before this is a must, MM expects you to understand how OoT mechanics work from the start so jumping right into it can lead to a rude awakening for a first playthrough

    I personally played more of Majora's Mask as a kid than I did Ocarina of Time, and I think I did for a couple of reasons.
    While there is no doubt OOT is a fantastic game, it is much more linear I think in terms of time frame and direction for the player to go. MM on the other hand gave the player less direction but a lot more freedom to do what they want. Not only that but MM just has so much more depth to everything. The story, the characters, the subplots, the emotional aspects etc. I loved MM more just because it gave so much real life parallels of the troubles, fears, and obstacles that people face in real life. And because of how the game is layed out, you benefit the more you help others. Only by helping others either accomplish a task or give them some sort of relief in one way or another do you progress through the game. You see all these people tell you about what's going through their mind and all of the things they fear, so that way you can take that information they give you and figure out a way to either accept that fate causing them fear, or erase it entirely.
    Another thing is that the the side quests really are what makes the game so much more interesting. Although the main plot of the game is relatively straightforward (defeat the Temples the release the giants to stop the moon and then get the Majora's Mask back from skull kid), you get to see all of the ramifications of what the skull kid has done to others as well. The fact that you were a victim of skull kid as well makes you bond and feel for the others that were victimized by him as well. You also can see what happens to people when you don't help them, or when you don't follow through on your promises to them and how they negatively impact people.
    It's these reasons that MM stands out as such a unique game and is still underrated IMO.

  • @AzarathMetreon
    @AzarathMetreon 2 месяца назад +2

    The stories of the moment are absolutely the point of this game. What’s going on with Skull Kid is just a vague “I need to get the macguffin” quest line, but the npcs and their lives are everything. As the threat looms closer, will they grow more despondent? More desperate? More introspective? Or maybe they’re like Anju and Kafei, absolutely dedicated to reuniting before the world ends no matter the cost. They’re all so fascinating, it almost feels like the side quests are the main quest and Skull Kid is the side quest.

      Been learning english for about 10 years and never read that.
      You pretty much choose what matters to you in every story you play, but MM really puts the struggles of normal people in the foreground and makes it more meaningful or interesting, than the world ending megathreat.

    A few things. It had to contend with arguably the best Zelda game of all time so it had very high expectations.
    I Think more so it's just so unique in the series that being it's not really based on Ganondorf or Zelda and that it's like a pseudo-sequel/spinoff to OOT.
    Right there with you though this is my favourite of all time , it's just so dark and bizzare

    I just love how unique everything about MM is. It doesn't try to be the next grand giant adventure. It doesn't try to stick with the normal of an adventure game or Zelda game. It did something totally new and then they moved on. I really hope they can find a spark like this in a new game.
    I think BOTW was good for similar reasons, but for me TOTK was lackluster because it was just a BOTW 2.0. I welcome another unique entry like MM.

    Yeah I love this game so so much. I think the Anju and Kafei quest was my eureka moment, just being able to see how all the different characters affect the story, going back over and over just to see something play out from someone else's perspective. Being able to adopt the other racial traits of the characters you help and use their mechanics, just so cool. Knowing everything about the world while also knowing nothing is an interesting way of putting it, too.

      I think you could be right but I'd like to hear examples of that. I think people generally criticize MM on a gameplay level for things like the stone tower climb (requires way too many items at once) or beneath the well gibdo trading (you don't know what you need without going back and forth constantly). Admittedly I'm really struggling to think of many big problems with the gameplay at all, so I genuinely want to hear what you mean

    I would like to inform people that you only have to go through the Anju sidequest at least twice and _not_ three times. The bottle and the Postman's Hat are tied to the priority mail while the Couple's Mask is tied to only Anju and Kafei so you'll need to redo the quest to change who you give the priority mail to while the Couple's Mask is a one and done and you can get the Couple's Mask and deliver the priority mail in the same quest.

    Majora's Mask is a tough one for me. It's painfully brilliant and endlessly frustrating. I recently played it for the first time in many many years, and there are so many parts that seem intentionally obtuse with manufactured difficulty. That said, there is a relentless dedication to the character of the game and story that pours from every seam. I replayed Ocarina of Time after Majora's Mask, again for the first time in quite a while, and OoT almost feels hollow in comparison. Majora's Mask will never be my favorite Zelda game, but it is incredible what they were able to accomplish with it.

    @MessedUpSystem 2 месяца назад

    I personally think the fact the game is that much harder if you don't do the side content is a genius part of it's narrative, because in contrast to traditional Zelda games where everything revolves around the protagonist and side characters are "what can YOU do for ME" type of characters, in Majora's Mask the game REVOLVES around the inhabitants of the world, and they are "what can I do for YOU" type of characters, so punishing you for not seeking to help them and soothe their sorrow is part of the narrative of the game. Think of Anju & Kafei quest, you're not only trying to stop the moon from destroying Termina, you are also helping those people be able to accept their fate in peace with no regrets, like the cucco Grog as another example. Although it can be frustrating for some just looking to finish the game, it is such a powerful narrative tool for the story the game wants to tell, and this is one of the only two games where I go out of my way to complete (almost) every single side quest, the other being NieR: Automata, other than these two games I usually skip side content since they don't captivate me

    • @TheEleventhDimension
      @TheEleventhDimension  2 месяца назад +1

      I definitely agree with how the world revolves around the people, and I guess it’s mostly that the moon looks so cool and I wish there was more to it than just getting this mask, and it can be disappointing when you haven’t done everything

  • @steinis6409
    @steinis6409 2 месяца назад

    Everything that seems "pretty hard" in the game is actually "pretty fair".
    To a blind player this games does basically the same as "old-school games"... if you die 3 times in first Super Mario Bros. you have to "play it again".
    The same goes here if you fail on a dungeon, you have to reset time and try "again". BUT you always keep your learned skills and equipment and have the possibility to try again keeping your knowledge on how to solve riddles. And what took 3 days cycles before is now done in a half day and you are back at where you were... If you reached the song and owl-statue before the dungeon or even the dungeon item you can skip ALOT on your re-attempt. And thats how the process of learning and re-attempting is implemented.
    And this is different but an amazing concept. Anyone who refuses to accept this, feels pressured by the time or is impatient: its simply no game for you.
    Also people claim about loosing your arrows ,bombs and stuff in time-rollback and dont get the point that every owl-statue's next grass to cut fills you up with arrows, bombs and everything always, reliably and immediately. The only thing is you gotta find out that fact. Alot in this game is "finding out" and for that you need to talk to everyone and note everything NPCs say.

    • @RandomYoutubeViews
      @RandomYoutubeViews 2 месяца назад

      I get where you’re coming from; people hate on this gameplay too much without thinking about what it actually does for the game, but it’s a bit of an overstatement to say that it’s “not the game for you” if you struggle with the time management. It’s an amazing concept and I doesn’t bother me at all, but if it feels repetitive I think it’s okay and that doesn’t mean that it’s a bad game.
      I think it’s fair to say it can get tedious at times, especially if this happens while you’re trying to complete a dungeon, or working hard to figure something out

    • @steinis6409
      @steinis6409 2 месяца назад

      @@RandomRUclipsViews But thats simply the fact. There are people with the patience of a burning match and would rather throw their console out of the windows in 5th floor then doing anything in a game for a second time.
      And this are simply the wrong people for this kind of game. I think its absolutely awesome aswell.
